To think you don't need lots in a party bag?

So when I was a kid it was a couple cheapy 'toys' and a slice of the birthday cake. Now I've been told you need toys, sweets, party hats, bubbles and you have to cater for both boys and girls?? Someone even suggested a GIFT CARD in each party bag. Surely that's not the norm?? I'm doing my son's first big party so if anyone has been to one recently (ages 3-5) could you tell me what kind of things was in the bags?

I agree - it's madness and the last thing I need is more clutter 😂
My daughter got a slinky in a party bag and it's her favourite thing!!

The dcs love party bags in DDs class - plastic or not. DD still plays with some party bag toys that she's received a couple of years ago, so it's not all disposable rubbish.
From other parties, she's liked party blowers, Primark t shirt, pendant, diy bead bracelet, bouncy ball, multi colour pencils, novelty erasers, fidget toys.
I'm doing squishies, temp tattoos, stickers, sticker activity picture, keyring, hairbands, small bag of Haribo. Cake always gets eaten at the party around here.

I made sweet cones, got personalised stickers from Etsy and tied with pretty ribbons. Went down really well.

Brings back memories of a Thelwell cartoon I saw years ago - parents at the open front door and a line of little children heading away down the garden path each clutching a party bag...

Dad says to Mum - "There - that's got rid of the last of the hamsters!"

I put in 5 things (not the cake which I think is weird). For example bubblies, a balloon, one of those little parachute guys and maybe a few sweets or stickers.

We did piece of birthday cake, little puzzle book on the party theme, pencil on same theme and some stickers. All sourced cheaply via eBay.

I hate party bags.

Cheap xrappy crayons that never get used. Plastic tat that ends up in landfil.

I only give eco party bags. A slice of cake then a nice pencil/pen that will be used, then perhaps an origami set or something else not plastic.

Party bags can be stressful! My DC's birthday party today! In the party bag u have put a small easter egg (I do this every year as he has a 'easter' birthday. This year he is having a spiderman theme so I bought a pack of spiderman stickers, spiderman bubbles and spiderman wrist snap thingys.

My daughter is slightly older and had a pamper party this year with minimal girls so I did more pamper things. E.g nailvarnish, nail stickers etc.

Over the years My kids have received various things and whatever they get they have been very happy with! So don't stress too much.

Sometimes they just come back with a slice of cake and that's more than enough!

For what it’s worth , I hate party bags and most of it goes straight in the bin! My kids don’t really eat sweets and the small toys, which cost a fortune, are rubbish!

now I just give a slice of cake!

I sometimes give a £1 gift like an easter egg, a ball or a small teddy. I've felt awkward when my kids have received massively expensive party bags.
