To try and get Ozempic even though I’m not obese?

Campensation · 14/04/2023 07:58

Named changed and a regular user.

Being completely transparent here, I want to lose a bit of weight in a rush before a holiday. Hands up, I’m crap at dieting and it’s my own fault.

I am looking at getting a private prescription to assist this so that my clothes arent tight and all I hear and see is that Ozempic seems to have excellent results. I have researched and there are companies where you can order online by submitting weight /height and a photo.

My BMI is 23. So not overweight really. It’s purely for aesthetic reasons.

Sorry yes I know orlistat is different- just wanted to say that all these things have side effects and they really can be a pain.

FrostyFifi · 14/04/2023 09:51

I can't believe you want to take a drug with serious side affects for vanity.

ChickenDhansak82 · 14/04/2023 10:20

You want to fill your body full of crappy chemicals because you can't be bothered to diet/exercise?!

YABU 100%!

Get up early, go for a 30 minute brisk walk, then eat sensibly. No junk, no alcohol, no huge portions, no snacking. You will lose weight in no time!

If you want it badly enough you can do it.

FrostyFifi · 14/04/2023 11:43

@ChickenDhansak82 she has a BMI of 23, she doesn't even need to lose weight, it's pure vanity.

mybeautifuloak · 14/04/2023 13:00

You need to have a bmi over 30 to go on it. My question is what happens when you lose weight and go to reorder the next month's ozempic but now your BMI is say 28?

Irrelevant.

She might not NEED to lose weight but if she WANTS to she will.

If she has put on weight and her clothes feel tight then it makes sense to want to lose some weight. Chemical tablets are not the way to go about it!

Brilop · 14/04/2023 13:03

A friend of mine did this. Worked well but she put the weight back on very quickly

Peridot1 · 14/04/2023 13:05

@Brilop - if she went back to eating the way she ate to gain weight in the first place it stands to reason she would put it back on. Like any weight loss method.

Why are you even commenting when you clearly don't have a clue that ozempic is an injection, not tablets Confused

I get your sentiment but wading in when you know nothing about what you're giving 'advice' on is unhelpful.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 14/04/2023 13:05

It really concerns me that so many of the posts I see on here from people using Ozempic are people with very low BMIs (under 30). I think it’s especially sad when you see there are supply problems so those with real need don’t get it. Worrying.

Campensation · 14/04/2023 13:09

triedozempic · 14/04/2023 09:30

NC-ed
I tried it already. The media hype isn't really 100% correct. I posted my experience in Weight Loss chat
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4765817-i-tried-ozempic-but-overall-didnt-like-it
So give it a go if you have the ££s and you are curious but I basically thought it was a waste of money

This is really helpful thank you

I KNEW this type of thing would happen with Ozempic.

It is for people who are obese with a BMI of over 30. People like me. Being obese brings health risks but due to menopause dieting simply doesn't work for me as I find it impossible to eat little enough to lose weight. I used to be very fit and slim but FOR ME menopause betrayed my body. So I feel I need help to become healthy again.

You don't need a drug to help you lose a few pounds, you just need to count calories and up your exercise a bit.

Crunchymum · 14/04/2023 13:17

I'm incredibly overweight due to a combination of illness (was off my feet for 6 months) medication (including steroids which are renowned for weight gain) and emotional eating.

I wouldn't touch this drug with a bargepole.

Thankfully I'm not yet diabetic but even if I was I'd be very hesitant about this drug.

Campensation · 14/04/2023 13:22

GiltEdges · 14/04/2023 09:48

Hands up, I’m crap at dieting and it’s my own fault.

And...

This will be the first time I’m going on holiday and in public in swimwear. I know no one cares and won’t be looking, but I care :(

Do you see why these two statements are incongruous?

Putting aside the fact that your weight is well within the healthy range with a BMI of 23, if you cared as much as you say you do about what you'll look like in swimwear, then you'd put the effort into your diet and exercise regime to lose what you need to (or, more likely, just generally tone up) to feel more comfortable in your own skin.

And FWIW, I have a couple of family members who've used Ozempic and it's far from a quick fix. Have you actually considered that even if it does work for you, you'll still look exactly the same as you do now, just a few pounds lighter? No change in tone, to materially change your appearance. So no one else will be aware, or even notice.

This and the other posts advising dieting - I realise that’s the logical solution. But I really mean it when I say I can’t diet. It’s all I’ve got to stop a cycle of not eating then binging on junk and just eating ‘normally’ at the moment. I’m working on it but have very little in the tank to do so. I have no mental capacity for willpower. I really do care. And I also really can’t do restricted eating. I was thinking the appetite suppressant effect would help me out. I have had therapy which has covered these emotional eating issues and it didn’t really help.

I get this op and tbh I'm tempted !

I'm bmi 23

I am tiny so look better bmi 19-21 and now I'm past 40 it's so hard to lose weight

SpringIntoChaos · 14/04/2023 13:26

What ⬆️ all said!!!

I am taking Ozempic (on my third month now). I am pre-diabetic, have gone through the menopause (so weight loss is much, much harder!) and my BMI is currently at 37!

Trust me...Ozempic IS NOT a 'quick fix'! Even with the support group I'm in, carefully monitored weight loss plan...which included a calorie deficit diet...I've only lost 13lbs in 10 weeks. Which is great! But definitely NOT the quick (or easy!) fix you seem to think it will be!

I've been lucky and had no real side effects other than being very tired...but others in my group have found it incredibly difficult with awful nausea.

Do not lie to suppliers of the drug...what a ridiculous thing to do! This is your health you are risking...🤦‍♀️

Kickingupmerrybehaviour · 14/04/2023 13:28

@Campensation sorry you’re getting a bit of a pile on op. I think your question is valid and lots of people are not technically eligible but getting it prescribed. At your bmi I’m sure you have an enviable figure and don’t need to.

TheMarzipanDildo · 14/04/2023 13:34

It sounds like you’ve got some issues with eating (and definitely with self perception- no one actually looks bad with a bmi of 23, whatever they think) but this can’t be the answer.

Nor are those bloody diet shakes.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 14/04/2023 13:36

Goady thread. OP must realise this will be read by people who are obese and struggling, when OP is not even overweight.

OP...it ONLY works though if you DO restrict your eating!!! How do you think a drug (any drug!) is going to magically dissolve any calories that you eat? 🤦‍♀️ You literally have to be in calorie deficit to lose weight...with or without a drug! You will simply be chucking £200 a month at something that won't work, unless you restrict your food intake 🤷‍♀️

Your claim to have 'no willpower' is nonsense...what you have, is a lazy attitude to losing any weight that you want to get rid of (which was me, up until the point of being told I am pre-diabetic, then I took a long hard look at my life and decided I'd rather make some changes than spend the rest of my life on insulin!)

🤷‍♀️

DedicatedFollowerOfFashion84 · 14/04/2023 13:39

Risky. You’d have to be dishonest in order to even be considered by an online supplier. It’s not a decision that should be taken lightly, and certainly not by someone who by their own admission isn’t overweight and sees it as a speedy option to fulfil some misplaced vanity needs.

Robinkitty · 14/04/2023 13:40

I’ve done it op, I can only tolerate the injections for a couple days because it makes me so sick, there’s much better and healthier ways to loose weight.
I actually got my prescription when I was overweight but went through something horrible after picking up my prescriptions and so lost the weight without the injections, seeming as I already paid for them I just use them as a boost every now and then to keep my weight down but it’s not a good thing. Don’t do it op spend the money on something good for yourself xx

caringcarer · 14/04/2023 13:40

You might be better off doing some body toning exercises.

Seasonofthewitch83 · 14/04/2023 13:40

This is what diet culture does to people.

Yes...and so self-absorbed! Unless the OP is 4'2, a BMI of 23 is slim!

For context: the OP is the green woman. I'm the purple 🤦‍♀️😳

To try and get Ozempic even though I’m not obese?
