I'm getting married but I want to look nice

We are eloping and have been together for years, since i was 16. Children together, house together, just a whole life together and he looks even more handsome today then he did when i met him. I on the other hand look like an old bag and I'm too embarrassed to walk down the aisle infront of my friends and family so thats why we are eloping.

I haven't had a haircut or my nails or eyebrows done since I was a teenager and I feel really embarrassed to go. Probably because I've let myself get to this tired mum stage.

I don't even wear make up and I've never thought I look ugly or care that I'm unkempt. Until the idea of starting my marriage with my drop dead gorgeous husband as a frumpy, ugly wife.

Has anyone changed it around? I have an outdoorsy life so my nails are always mucky and broken and my skin is always dry with calluses. I always liked that about myself, I can get up and leave the house in 2 minutes, not like when I was younger, and definitely not with the kids but now I'm embarrassed.

You think recommending therapy to improve her self esteem is getting it? 😂

I think not everyone was recommending therapy 😂

I'm about30 years older than you, a jeans and t shirt girl through and through and mainly outside as well.
I would suggest a haircut, low maintenance style you like that works for you that doesn't need to be blow dried if you haven't the time/inclination.

Get your eyebrows shaped, I get mine threaded as find it less painful than waxing. I also get any chin/upper lip excess hair sorted at the same time.
Start moisturising, face hands body, doesn't need to be anything fancy if you don't want to spend ££
Hand cream on your hands morning noon and night if you can and keep your nails short and clean, if nail varnish not your thing then don't push yourself out of your comfort zone
Clothes. Well what's he going to wear? If you're both planning on wearing pretty much your every day style clothes, there's no reason why you can't buy yourself new everything for the occasion.

When I'm "dressing up" I put on eyeliner and mascara and a tinted lip balm which is my only extravagance really - Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream range, best chapstick for me I know about. That's it, I feel uncomfortable with any more.

There's loads more you could do, but keeping up simple self care will make a lot of difference and hopefully have you feeling much better about yourself as well as setting you up to look your best on the day
