What jobs pay some 80k - 100k+

WellPaidJobs · 12/04/2023 12:48

Posting here for traffic. Also, I’m on decent salary and don’t intend to retrain.

However, on a different thread (people discussing a different topic; the new free childcare hours introduced by the government) some people said they were earning salaries in the above ranges and were able to increase or reduce their hours without any impact on promotion opportunities etc.

I’m interested what the jobs are. Loooooong way away, and things will likely change by then but I’m thinking if I was to provide options to my DCs in the future…. Of course it will be down to them and if they end up being in low paid jobs nothing wrong with that…

Jobs in tech and finance.

Who knows what the long term future with AI /ML will hold, but gaining STEM skills will continue to be desirable.

Puffthemagiclizard · 12/04/2023 13:19

I know a few people in tech on 100k plus, and used to know some very successful recruitment consultants earning these are, but I don't know how that industry is now.
What I would say though is none of those people would be able to step down to part time at their level, they are travelling extensively, working ++ hours etc.

JaneFondue · 12/04/2023 13:21

Tech
Finance
Law
All very long hours.
One of my DC is aiming for a high paying job and the other did not. Is now regretting it, and trying to pivot with limited success.

I was literally going to say ‘what is Tech?!’

People always say ‘Tech’ but can you give a more helpful explanation pls! Which area of Tech? What do they actually do etc

FKATondelayo · 12/04/2023 13:24

Senior marketing roles in private sector.
Digital project manager

ThirdAidKit · 12/04/2023 13:26

I’m a digital project manager. I earn £35k in London.

I don’t know anyone that earns £100k doing my job.

WellPaidJobs · 12/04/2023 13:27

@randomusername2020 yes, I would really be interested (if anyone in such job reads this) what a specific job would be that would earn that.

I know high paying jobs in general but normally it’s not as easy to change hours without impacting career prospects.

I work in finance myself.

I've found with a stem background and ability with people it's fairly simple to earn that sort of range. They're crying out for middle managers who can dela well with people and think creatively. Most people I know did something like engineering then pivoted into marketing or similar then back to engineering at the new grade but maybe at a smaller company. That could be mechanical, chemical, etc. A manager would probably be on 60k+ but go somewhere with a decent union and that goes up quick enough. Flexibility varies massively by company.

So you must know that many, many roles in the sector pay that or more?

TokyoSushi · 12/04/2023 13:30

I work in pharmaceuticals, lots of people on £70K plus, largely in R&D. I find that lots of 'scientific' careers pay fairly well.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 12/04/2023 13:30

Software engineers. Senior to managers. London roles are 100k+ outer london 70-85k.

Not usually long hours. Not always high stress. Lot of remote working and decentish benefits. Not always possible to be part time. Though more and more companies are encouraging flexible working.

vestanesta · 12/04/2023 13:31

Finance is also a broad term. I earn the bottom of that range in a regional office client facing mid management level role (ie not partner) in a professional services firm which some may say is finance but I do literally nothing like that.

I'd say senior level HR has quite good potential and there are loads of facets to it.

BiscuitBean · 12/04/2023 13:32

I earn over £100k working in tech; as a software engineering manager. Worth noting though that I’ve done this role for a while in corporate as well as start up and in my experience it’s only really start ups that will pay this kind of money for my level. That in itself comes with its own risks.

I don’t work particularly taxing hours and work exclusively from home. But…I hate it. And am in the process of stepping out of the chaos, taking a massive pay cut in the process for a less stressful and hopefully more stable role. It’s taken me years to get to this level and now I’m here, it’s not worth it for me.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 12/04/2023 13:32

I know some people in corporate law who’s starting salaries as graduates was 70/80k however the hours are absolutely unhinged

ClarissaExplainsSome · 12/04/2023 13:32

Financial services / insurance there are a lot of jobs in this bracket

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/04/2023 13:32

Information security and compliance. Data privacy too, especially at DPO level.

WellPaidJobs · 12/04/2023 13:32

Yes, including my salary (on the lower end of that range) but I couldn’t just simply reduce my hours and then increase at will without impacting my future earnings potential.

If people only read the thread properly, my post isn’t even that long.

The question isn’t what jobs come with high salary, but what jobs come with high salary and hours can be changed at will without impacting future prospects.

Marketing/ business development at a large corporate or PS company. I don’t feel particularly skilled but senior manager salaries are 80-110k (london based).

BiscuitBean · 12/04/2023 13:34

Pressed post too soon…I work with others doing my role who work lower hours, and even as a full timer it’s incredibly flexible. Again though, I don’t this is a sector/role thing, it’s a company thing. They’re all different.
