To think this isn’t really justice? Only 20 years for murdering his pregnant wife and their unborn child by pushing her from Arthur’s Seat

I’m so disappointed and angry at this sentence. Fawziyah and her baby are dead ffs. She told him she was leaving him and he killed her. He pushed her to her death. She died slowly from her injuries. Her baby died with her. And he only gets two decades inside? How can this be right? How is that enough?

Man murdered his pregnant wife by pushing her off Arthur's Seat

Fawziyah Javed, 31, was shoved from the famous hill in the Scottish capital by Kashif Anwar, 29, and fell around 50ft to her death in an act that also killed her unborn child.

He got a life sentence. 20 years is the minimum he will serve.

AgrathaChristie · 06/04/2023 16:04

Should never be released. Hope he rots.

BumblebeeWest · 06/04/2023 16:06

Yes. And a great many life sentence prisoners do serve the minimum and are released on parole; the life sentence allows them to be recalled if they pose a risk to the public after release. So he is likely to be out of prison in just two decades. He won’t even be 50 years old by then. He took all of Fawziyah’s remaining life, the entire life of her baby, and he only has to spend a fraction of his remaining life in prison. It does not seem like justice to me.

It should be longer but the way the criminal justice system seems to work in Scotland, I’m surprised he didn’t get 500 hours of unpaid community service.

Maddy128 · 06/04/2023 16:11

Is it strange that he’s been found guilty and sentenced but the Daily Fail is still using “alleged” in the article?

What a bastard.

Notegoat · 06/04/2023 18:42

It’s a horrible case and it reflects the statistics about domestic violence. For women who have an abusive partner, the risk of violence rises if they become pregnant and they’re in the most danger when planning to leave.

This is what young women should be taught at school. Educate them on coercive control, warning signs, statistics, how to get away safely.

These violent men are hiding in plain sight. They are criminals who hide behind their victim.

usernamechanged1 · 06/04/2023 18:54

I hope he has a long, long life.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 06/04/2023 18:56

It’s a fairly standard sentence in this country I’m afraid.

Im just so glad that she managed to tell people before she died, otherwise he’d have got away with it!

Americano75 · 06/04/2023 18:58

That poor woman and her baby.

Hope he fucking rots.

usernamechanged1 · 06/04/2023 19:00

Keep in mind that whilst the punishment part is 20 years, he won’t waltz out of prison thereafter. I would bet anything that the parole board will never release him. Same as Aaron Campbell and Alexander Pacteau. They won’t ever come out.

Weallgottachangesometime · 06/04/2023 19:07

what a horrendous crime.

It Seems like a fairly average sentence for that type of crime to me.

its Sad more wasn’t able to be done to protect her given he had been abusive before and people must have known he was a risk.

Newyearnewhome · 06/04/2023 20:48

I’d like to see the law changed for domestic abuse crimes.

If you murder an intimate partner, your sentence should be double the recommended length for a ‘standard’ murder.

The coercive control and abuse should be factored in.

Butchyrestingface · 06/04/2023 21:12

Poor lassie - her mother's only child, I believe.

But yes, this being the Scottish legal system, I'm surprised he didn't get vouchers for a day out at the paint-balling.

to work on his anger issues. Two lives gone. Heartbreaking

Awrite · 06/04/2023 21:24

I saw a headline earlier about a chap who got 28 years for attempted murder. I guess the difference was he was trying to kill a man and their lives are worth more (actually, I'm guessing here because I didn't read the article. Didn't want it confirmed after reading about this travesty of justice.)

L3ThirtySeven · 06/04/2023 21:25

At least she wasn’t a disabled child, you only get 6yrs inside for torturing your disabled child to death slowly over six months. Or no prison time at all if you suffocate them. The sentencing in this country is fucked up.

ifeelimgoingmad · 06/04/2023 21:33

I seen recently that a man was given community service for rape! The judge took into consideration his previous good behaviour and that he was 17 at the time. The girl was 13, the Scottish justice system is needing overhauled!

Newyearnewhome · 06/04/2023 21:34

The killer of Olivia Pratt Korbel (rightly) got 42 years because of the nature of his crime.

Obviously, it is a deserved sentence. But why are some murders seen as being less serious than others?

why is this man sentenced to half of that for taking a life?

Yea I saw that one and was shocked. I would have thought even if under 18 there would have been a custodial sentence for raping a child.

ifeelimgoingmad · 06/04/2023 21:39

That’s my thoughts! And at 17 he knew right from wrong!

Murder for gain and murder with a gun both attract a 30 year minimum tariff, IIRC.

Murder with a bladed implement 25 years.

Whereas strangulation, unless there's evidence of a sadistic/sexual motive gets a lower tariff.

Two cases in my region. One involved a young man stabbing another young man. The other, a man choking his wife with chilli powder, strangling her and then making it look like a burglary.

Guess who got longer in prison?
