If you have, any tips? Is it worth it?

Yes I did mine with Frenchic Duck egg. Looks lush. Lockdown project and it’s still perfect. Gave it a good clean and a quick sand before I started and then whacked it on

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 06/04/2023 17:56

Yes. We had the whole of the front and side of the house including front door spray painted dark grey as it was a nasty white upvc and would cost too much to replace. It looks amazing and is weathering lovely. Had loads of lovely comments.

anonymouschef · 06/04/2023 17:57

Yep we did I sanded it back then painted it

Huge improvement on the stained white door

We did ours green

MinnieEgg · 06/04/2023 17:59

Yes with Frenchic. Mine was dark grey and now it's Mermaid.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 06/04/2023 18:07

Yeah with Frenchic Wise Old Sage. Before that we did it Ol Blue Eyes. Washed down with sugar soap, lightly sanded and do thin coats for best results. We did a top coat using Frenchic again. X

I treated one with Owatrol Polytrol Colour Restorer and it looks like new again

Can I ask how much roughly you paid @Ihaveawonderfulpartner ? We're looking to have 3 doors, 1 window and potentially the garage door sprayed.

Chchchanges23 · 06/04/2023 19:26

I’d love to see some pictures if anyone wants to share - I hadn’t realised this was possible, and it sounds like a good project. So sick of my tired white UPVC doors/windows 😩

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 06/04/2023 19:28

Watching as like this idea

Greenstar9 · 06/04/2023 19:49

I would really like to but I'm scared I'll mess the door up, there isn't anything wrong with the door I just hate that it's white upvc

toptomatoes · 06/04/2023 19:53

Yes, we used Frenchic blackjack on a brown wood-effect PVC door. Very easy and it looks so much better. We were thinking of replacing it but went for this first and it doesn’t bother us anymore so we won’t replace it for a while yet. It’s been done for about 3 years now.

robinsinthespring · 06/04/2023 19:56

I spray painted mine 2 years ago, glossy black, still looks perfect

crochetmonkey74 · 06/04/2023 21:09

For those who sprayed did you take the door off?
I fear I am a messy painter.
With the frenchic paint is it called specifically upvc paint?

I used frenchic and kept the door attached. It’s their Alfresco indoor/outdoor range

MinnieEgg · 06/04/2023 21:15

Frenchic have a video on their website and also they have a Facebook which will have a million doors on it. You can search on there by colour or by item.

FiledAwayInABox · 06/04/2023 21:17

Im suprised at the positive Frenchic posts. It's nice paint but I would choose something more durable for exterior pvc. There are a number of specialist pvc paints in lots of lovely colours. Rustoleum do a paint specifically for PVC

I'm sure preparation is the key.

Gasketcracker · 06/04/2023 21:17

This is quite the Frenchic advertisement thread...

Rustoleum do really good paints for outdoor projects. I have to say, of all the Instagram house decor people I follow (which is a LOT), not one has ever advocated Frenchic

Gasketcracker · 06/04/2023 21:18

Cross post @FiledAwayInABox 😁

JorisBonson · 06/04/2023 21:20

Yes, inspired by a thread on here!

I used Zinsser AllCoat Exterior during lockdown and it still looks brand new.

Isabelle70 · 06/04/2023 21:21

I did mine with Zinsser all coat satin that I had mixed to RAL mouse grey. A good wash down, a very light sand in fact the older the upvc the better and 3 lights coats with the roller and a new door! It took me one day in the summer to do and cost about £40/50 in total with the cleaning and rollers etc.
I have also used the Zinsser in the plain white to refresh my upvc windows that are looking tired after 20 plus years.

That’s a brilliant product. I’d choose that over frenchic anyday. You can have it made up in any colour.

Zwicky · 06/04/2023 21:37

I’ve done mine a few times with frenchic. I leave it on - lightly sand - good scrub with sugar soap - paint about 3-4 coats. The first time I did about 10 coats because I was so worried about doing it too think that I did it too thin. It has to be over 10 degrees and not raining. The frenchic Facebook and Insta is awash with doors

piefacedClique · 06/04/2023 22:31

Frenchic was quite the lockdown cult…. I did loads in it! Some stuff has lasted better than others… patio furniture is now looking tired if I’m honest and I’ll repair this spring however the front and garage doors are still perfect

This.

This has to be a blatant advert post for Frenchic fans.

I fell for the Facebook fan page (not independent either, it’s runny the company and heavily edited to only show positive posts) and bought a shedload of colours and it’s absolutely not good paint. I have many many years of painting and preparation experience and know what I’m doing and I’d never recommend it, but people have to find out for themselves.
