The cafe stole my cinnamon swirls?!?!?

I went into a cafe with a takeaway and ordered a coffee and two cinnamon swirls to go.

I paid and they put the cinnamon swirls in a box behind the counter whilst I waited for the coffee.

Then a waitress appeared and said the cinnamon swirls were already on order for a table and took them out of the box and back on display for the table order.

Then they gave me a refund for the cinnamon swirls.

At the time I was disappointed but it just sort of all happened.

AIBU to think that actually, once I’d paid, that they were mine and that they had no right to take them back?

Anyway. Just to be pedantic. They didn't steal them. You got a refund. This turned out to be less exciting than I imagined. Also I want a cinnamon swirl. No, I'm not going to make any.

@Maireas I don't have an air fryer either, but I also make these. Just lay them on greaseproof paper on a baking tray and do them in a standard oven. I use eggwash to seal the pastry and to brush over the individual pastries before baking too.

Yes that's weird, I'd have asked for a refund for the coffee too for the incontinence to be honest. I know it sounds petty and first world problems but if they'd been boxed up for you and you'd paid its shitty service to take them back as they can't manage their stock before taking peoples money.

I have an ill toddler and an unwell newborn sleeping on me and nearly woke them laughing at this😅

These are SO easy to make.

Unravel a packet of puff pastry.
Spread a mixture of equal part cinnamon/castor surgar across the entire pastry.
Roll the pastry back into a roll and slice in fingers.
Bake for 10 minutes at 180 in the airfryer.
Couldn't be easier.
Drizzle with a little icing sugar if you like.

These are a huge hit here.

You need to mix the sugar and cinnamon into butter first and THEN spread it on.

Then you make the topping with cream cheese, icing sugar and a tiny splash of vanilla.

And even then they still aren’t as nice as Cinnabon cinnamon rolls

I’d have grabbed them back and taken a bite out of each one, then put them back on display, instead of accepting a refund. Just for the pettiness of it.

The staff need to work on their communication skills.

I have a kind of related story though, had a cheeky customer who was stood in the queue, stop me as I was clearing tables and tell me she wanted the last pan au raisin that was on the rack, I made a point to check with the other customers in front of her in the queue that they weren’t going to order it first! You could tell she wasn’t happy but what could she say! Grin

I werent planning on eating them yet, and now I'm bloody tempted.

Not completely correct. Palmiers must traditionally resemble elephants ears. So, your recipe but roll up from each long end to meet in the middle. Slice and bake at 180c for 12 mins approximately

Seems strange that they put them back on display, that's just asking for someone else to buy them? If the table had ordered them then they should have been taken away to avoid confusion. I'd assume the table paid first which is why they got them and not you

Yes, misleading title.

It's annoying but they didn't steal. What they did was sell the same cakes twice and once they realsied you got your refund.

Oh I've bloody done this before in my cafe, I fucked up. I took an order for someone and didn't immediately take the last two off display, i made the coffee first and then the next barista took the same order from someone else straight after and I was said "oh god no I've just sold them" so it's a stupid mistake but they should have apologised. I would have given a free cake to you too

You can home made ones of those cinnamon biscuits. Just get some pre made puff pastry and coat the inside with cinnamon and brown sugar roll them up slice then bake make sure the pastry is ice cold.
