Boxing In the garden at night

Namechanger355 · 03/04/2023 21:15

Live in a nice part of SW London - semi detached. Family of teens live next door, parents are teachers and sensible enough

but how late is it too late to box a bag in the garden with friends at night? We have a DD3 and a DD3 months who are sleeping - and they aren’t raucous but the 16 year old son does box a bag with a couple friends occasionally - as it’s half term.

it’s a bit annoying and I don’t think starting that at 9pm js really acceptable - surely they can just do it during the day or even 6-7pm

i don’t think I’m BU at all tbh…

I'm sympathetic and hope you can resolve this with the sensible parents. If boxing is the worst issue you can be grateful for not having neighbours like mine. Loud music late into the night.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 03/04/2023 21:27

What is it exactly about the boxing that bothers you?

Is it the noise?

Namechanger355 · 03/04/2023 21:28

yes the noise

Not too loud but annoying enough and unnecessary to star it at 9pm on a week night

I believe they can make noise until 11pm, as annoying as it is.

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 03/04/2023 21:30

Dc sleep better with general noise. Don't be one of those that say dc need total silence. It's a rare thing irl.

ChickenDhansak82 · 03/04/2023 21:32

YABU.

Much rather have a teenager boxing and making a slight noise than a teenager smoking weed!

It's hardly an annoying noise!

PortiasBiscuit · 03/04/2023 21:34

Oh wow, real teenagers, outside, getting real fresh air and exercise.. wait till you’ve got teenagers OP..
I would honestly leave it.

SophiaSW1 · 03/04/2023 21:38

If it was after 10 I might ask them nicely to keep it down. Before then no.

DarkDarkNight · 03/04/2023 21:43

I wouldn’t have a problem with it, it’s teenagers exercising not being needlessly loud and annoying. I think kids should be able to sleep with a little noise and not need total silence.

Devoutspoken · 03/04/2023 21:54

I'd speak to the parents, it would be more neighbourly to exercise earlier

DashboardConfessional · 03/04/2023 22:03

I've had this with my neighbour when DS was small. He'd be asleep at 7pm and the neighbour would trot outside with about 5 friends for a chat and a smoke. But you know, I don't think my kid trumped their enjoyment of their garden at 7pm when it was still hot and light. It's tough.

I would expect an adult household to be ok with noise until about 10pm.

I take everything said on board … but I also think this

love thy neighbour and all - but maybe I’m ott courteous..

Are the teens waking up your children with their noise? If the DCs are not disturbed, you should suck it up and I’d definitely leave it. Your neighbours are entitled to use their garden for reasonable recreation.

Sharkpenis · 03/04/2023 22:18

I am dyslexic and read this as "In the night garden boxing" thought it was a bit odd of the ninky nonks and macca packa 😅

mostlysunnywithshowers · 03/04/2023 22:35

It's a bit late, but maybe he needs the relaxation before bed? I used to go to the gym til 10pm in younger days. Given the bloody shittiness of some people these days, if this is your biggest complaint of your neighbours I'd let it go. Move the children to the front of the house until the teen gets bored of his hobby (or gets a girlfriend!) and count yourself lucky you have ok neighbours. It's such a lottery.

TwoShades1 · 03/04/2023 22:39

Whilst is probably not the best time. I don’t think it’s really worth complaining about. Unless they are playing loud music while doing it. 90pm is quite early in the evening for a lot of people.

ChocHotolate · 03/04/2023 22:40

I thought this was going to be about Iggle Piggle & Upsy Daisy taking up a new hobby....(leaves quietly)

GreyTS · 03/04/2023 23:03

Yeah, you're being a bit tetchy about a very small thing and actually you have no rights here at all, it wouldn't be considered an unusual or inappropriate amount of noise for 9pm. Also I imagine if you can here him boxing they can hear your children, waking early, crying in the night, screaming tantrums - they all do it. And yours will be teenagers in the blink of an eye and goodness knows what they'll be up to. I wouldn't rock the boat for this

Summerfun54321 · 03/04/2023 23:04

I get very restless in the evening and definitely sleep better after evening exercise. It might be a bit annoying but I wouldn't complain. It's not shouting and swearing or music well into the night.

user143777534 · 03/04/2023 23:12

I think anything before 10 is fair enough unless it is really loud.

user143777534 · 03/04/2023 23:13

and your title and OP … if it’s at 9 it’s not really “at night” it’s “in the evening”

Truckinghell · 03/04/2023 23:16

You have a 3 year old and a 3 month old and presumably share a wall - I'm sure you're equally annoying to them.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2023 23:18

Teens spring to life at about 9pm,they're not that dissimilar to toddlers having that sudden burst of energy before bed. It's not weed, it's not music ,I'd count my blessings personally.

Coffeellama · 03/04/2023 23:18

YABU, if it was 11pm I’d agree, but this is just an unfortunate case where one neighbour has teens and the other has toddlers in semi detached houses. This is not something I’d risk falling out with a close neighbour over. 9pm wasn’t late at all.

Mycathatesmecuddling · 03/04/2023 23:20

I'm pretty sure it's noisier living next to a 3 year old and a 3 month old
