Please help me bear my delayed flight

Is there anything worse than a delayed flight. I'm flying from Dublin to Bristol.

After checking in, I walked the very, very long walkway in Dublin airport to get to my gate. It's a very long walkway to get there. I feel like walking from one end of my town to the other end is quicker than walking from one end of Dublin airport to the other end. When I arrived at my gate it said that the flight is delayed by 2 hours. And now someone has said that it might be delayed longer

I had to walk the very very long way back to the café area, (seriously Dublin airport is massive, ) to get back to a cafe to sit down and have a coffee.

I am coming over to the UK for a job interview and I had given myself time to have a look around the city, the day before my interview. Now I'll be rushed and have very little time to look around the city when I get there.

Surely it should be easier than this to get from Ireland to England. I just feel so annoyed. I hate flight delays. How do you deal with the annoyance when it happens

@luckylavender

2 hours is nothing

Agreed, I think my worse was about five days (Long Haul, as crew).

randomsabreuse · 03/04/2023 15:31

They'll have juggled things around so no one is more than 2hours and 59 minutes late...

At least it's not cancelled!

I had a 2 hour delay from Dublin to Glasgow last week, they were obviously juggling planes and crews to dodge delay compensation!

BarbaraofSeville · 03/04/2023 15:34

@randomsabreuse I agree about the juggling. Last time I was delayed, once the delay had got to over 2 hours, I was willing for it to go over 3 so I'd get the compensation.

In the end there were a few planes from the same airline and definitely some juggling going on and our flight was delayed something like 2 hours and 40 minutes. We did get a free coffee each out of it as the airline reps were handing out vouchers.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 03/04/2023 15:35

lolz if you move to bristol you bloody will fly Ryanair again! when you start popping back and forth regularly to visit Ireland you won't be splashing out for the more expensive airlines every time

I go back from london to Dublin once a month sometimes with my daughter - we go tomorrow and it's cost us 60£ total - BA was 212£ !!

I rarely get delayed with ryanair and have flown with them 10 times this year since January!

It's bad luck and can happen with any airline

Myneighbourskia · 03/04/2023 15:36

I fly out of Dublin pretty regularly. There are shops, cafes and a bar down at the ryanair gates? I'm a bit mystified by you saying you had to walk all the way back.

Exactly...OP is somewhere down between gates 104-120...multiple bars, shops, coffee....just not as many as the main shopping area. But still no need to go back unless you want something specific.....

Scalottia · 03/04/2023 15:43

'Is there anything worse than a delayed flight?'

Well yeah OP, I can think of a few things.

EggCustardTart · 03/04/2023 15:45

I always fly aer lingus now, since the last time I tried to book Ryanair, by the time they added all of the "extras" it was more expensive than the aer lingus flight.

And Ryanair's self-congratulatory fan fare when they land vaguely on time is so annoying.

But yeah, I thought there were cafe places closer to the gates than back at the "central" bit.

I thought you couldn't even get back once you get down there tbh!! it says it's one way!

Mooshamoo · 03/04/2023 14:52

Ooh yeah thank you! What would you recommend that I go to see? I'll just be there this afternoon and evening

Clifton Village, the Suspension Bridge, the Docks. You can get a good overview from a number 8 or 9 bus if you don't feel like doing more walking.

There definitely aren't multiple bars shops cafes at the ryanair gates. Unless I'm missing something? I see one tiny cafe at here at the ryanair gates. The seats are all taken.

All the main shops, boots, WHSmith and the main cafes and Starbucks etc are a long walk back from the gates.

When I got to the gate and I saw the flight was delayed by hours , I was hungry. I wanted to go and buy a meal deal in boots.

Boots iS a long walk back from the ryanair gates.

@Mooshamoo i’d give st nicks a miss tonight. If you’re central head to whapping wharf, there’s lots of small restaurants and take aways there. If you get something to take out you can sit out by the water, it’s gorgeous. Good luck with the interview - I moved to Bristol on a whim 15 years ago and I can’t see myself living anywhere else now

Fupoffyagrasshole · 03/04/2023 16:01

it's changed then - you used to go through automatic doors and be trapped down there!! You had to be let back through - there were warnings up everywhere saying don't go down there unless you are done!

i can't even picture it now - i am on auto - pilot when i fly these days 😂

Are you blind?

Are you blind?

No I'm not blind. Are you deaf? As I already said to you before I wanted to walk back to boots to get a meal deal as I was hungry. Boots is a long walk back. As I said already the only cafes that I see at the ryanair gates , are small and are completely full of people every single seat is full. The people are not moving. They are people that are sitting their for hours because of delayed flights.

So the only available seats at the ryanair gates are the tiny cramped hard chairs that cut the legs off you. I don't want to sit on those chairs for two - three hours. Would you?

So yes I felt I necessary to walk back to the main shopping /café area where there were more food options and more bearably comfortable seats.

You can keep arguing with me about why I felt the need to walk back. I don't see the point of it. I've explained it.

The DAA webite usually updates quicker than the in airport announcements.

It looks like your flight is leaving at 5.20 and the walk is 7 minutes

Lordy. I once had a 24 hr flight delay with Virgin. Never been happier to reach home!

almostwarm · 03/04/2023 16:17

We spent several hours in Dublin Airport waiting for a UK flight yesterday.
The chairs at the gate aren't comfortable, I share your pain.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 03/04/2023 16:18

Not sure why you're getting so many shit responses OP, I'm sure most people in the real world would be pissed off to be delayed in your circumstances. I know I would.

Hope you get away soon

I haven't argued about why you would need or want to walk back, mainly as I couldn't begin to care.
Merely pointing out that your original contention was that you had to walk back to get a coffee and sit down...when there are at least four places to do that where you are. When actually you just specifically wanted Boots for a meal deal (which you could have got at the WH Smith where you were......)

I'm confused...that's the Aer Lingus flight..

I got the impression (so probably wrong) the OP was on the similarly timed Ryanair flight.

The info for that one is here:
https://www.dublinairport.com/flight-information/live-departures/flight-info?flightid=FR508-20230403

The tracking sites, which don't have access to company proprietary info so guess on timings sums by actually looking at where the airframe is (which is on the first turn Bristol ATM) are estimating a 25 minute delay on the next DUB-BRS sector.

As you rightly say though no guarantee of accuracy.
