I’m due 16th August up likely to be induced around the 4th August would my child be very young in their school year?

One of the youngest for sure. My ds was born mid July and only 5 younger than him. Of course it depends on class size.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 30/03/2023 19:39

I was 22 August and my friend 29th.

They probably won't be the youngest but one of them.

NuffSaidSam · 30/03/2023 19:39

If you're in England, yes they'd be very young in their school year. The only children younger would be those born during the rest of August. They could quite possibly be the youngest in their year.

Mummyboy1 · 30/03/2023 19:40

They'll be one of the youngest, depending on class size, but you might have a a couple younger than them.

Sapphire387 · 30/03/2023 19:40

The cut off is end of August so yes, they will be one of the youngest. I'm due around the same time. Best of luck with everything.

Whatwouldyoudo24 · 30/03/2023 19:40

My daughter was born 30th August, there is one child younger than her in her school year (born 31st August).
Shes doing brilliantly well at school though and being younger hasn’t ever bothered her, though she is in primary school so that may change.
I was also born relatively late in the year and I couldn’t tell you how many were younger than me!

poormanspombears · 30/03/2023 19:40

Me and my children are all august and there are very few younger than us.

Are you worried about anything particular?

hennybeans · 30/03/2023 19:40

My dc 15 has an end of July birthday. They were always the youngest in every primary year. Most of their friends in secondary seem to have October-January birthdays, but of course there will be August birthdays in the high school as well. It’s genuinely never been an issue for dc though.

Smartiepants79 · 30/03/2023 19:41

Yes, potentially the youngest. One of mine is a late August baby and she’s the youngest in her year.

PuttingDownRoots · 30/03/2023 19:43

In England, one of the youngest unless you defer.

Randomly my DD was second youngest in her year... and her birthday was June!

Then she moved schools and she wasn't the only one with her birthday and quite a few younger than her.

Starlightstarbright1 · 30/03/2023 19:43

My ds year there were 12 july / August birthdays over 2 classes

PritiPatelsMaker · 30/03/2023 19:44

One of the youngest definitely. My DC2 was also born in early August. She's not the youngest but out of 30 there were only 2 younger.

Truckinghell · 30/03/2023 19:44

Without being rude, you literally just need to look at a calendar to answer this question?!

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/03/2023 19:44

Yes they will be one of the youngest.

familyissues12345 · 30/03/2023 19:45

When DS2 was at primary, the youngest child was his best friend - born on the 6th Aug

slamfightbrightlight · 30/03/2023 19:46

Yes but as a summer born you will have an option to defer their start.

mafsfan · 30/03/2023 19:46

It depends on each cohort. Sometimes we have more in august, sometimes we have less. This year I have a couple at the beginning of august, last year I had a few throughout august and then one that was the 31st august.

But being an august baby myself I try to champion them all! 💪

nutbrownhare15 · 30/03/2023 19:47

As a summerborn you will be entitled to request that they start 1 year later age 5 and if so they would be one of the oldest in their year.

PurpleParrots · 30/03/2023 19:48

Your DC will be one of the youngest in the year. For what it’s worth my DS was born 28th August (so was the youngest in his year). His DB’s are both Sept (oldest in their year(s)). His DS is May (around the middle). Youngest DSis is Feb. All are adults now and all are doing well in their chosen careers.

Why do you ask?

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 30/03/2023 19:48

Well it depends where you live, not every country does things the same as England believe it or not.

googledidnthelp · 30/03/2023 19:49

My ds is 31st and that's fine by me, someone has to be the youngest.

Badleg85 · 30/03/2023 19:49

My dc is 30th June, there's only 2 younger than her in the class of 18

LeFeu · 30/03/2023 19:53

I find the specific focus on being the youngest a bit odd - if it was general concern about summer born children struggling at school I could understand, but no one will know if your child will be the youngest in their year until school places are finalised in 4 years time!

Sunshineandshowers42 · 30/03/2023 19:55

Obviously very dependent on the year, but I would say likely to be the youngest or one of very few. My DD is May and even then she is one of the youngest in her class (there's only 4 younger than her). I think there are two August borns.

WhiteFire · 30/03/2023 19:56

When dd1 was in primary there was a couple of girls born late August. The youngest was the 30th August, the oldest the 1st September.
