To be so frustrated with this country’s public?

Hotcrossbunnyy · 30/03/2023 12:48

You see protests on the news, France having 2023 revolution, the protests in Istanbul a few years ago, Spain, Iran, state of emergency in Lima.

But the British public is the epitome of the by stander effect. No one doing anything because no one else is.
We should be on our streets but yet we’re all just struggling along with the state of our country.

AIBU to find it so frustrating we don’t fight back?
Im sitting here watching France protest on the news while I sit here with an empty stomach, 3p in the bank, been told 6 years waiting list to be assessed for my health issues and I’m going to work soon and it feels like it’s for nothing yet We don’t do anything collectively

The French are protesting because they don’t want to raise the pension age. And would rather go bankrupt like Greece did. Not exactly smart. We actually need leaders like Macron that will make the tough decisions, rather than the morons we have in charge at the moment.

Agreed.

Shhht · 30/03/2023 13:28

Indeed.

Have a word with the Brexit voters about their "decision" if you're sick of being poor.

People get the Government they vote for.

Macron was elected on a clear manifesto that he was going to amend pension ages in France. We could do with some leaders with sensible economic policies ourselves.

What gets me is that with social media and everything, there's more exposure than ever before on corruption, cronyism and underhand dealings, yet those in high office carry on regardless. By rights, we should be chasing them out with pitchforks and flaming torches. There was a time when MPs were forced to resign if they neglected to tip their hat to a lady, now you can get away with pretty much anything, up to, and including, giving the King a wedgie. So yes, we should be rising up in righteous anger a bit more often.

I remember the last time we had pitchforks and flaming torches. It resulted mainly in looting and smashing up their own neighbourhoods rather than sticking it to the man so not exactly a glorious revolution

Kendodd · 30/03/2023 13:29

We are out on the street. Plenty of people demonstrating outside hotels for asylum seekers who are, of course, to blame for all the countries ills. Absolutely nothing to do with government , we are poor here because of some poor sod in a dinghy.

Perhaps the British have a greater respect for the democratic process and the rule of law.

100% this, I've also never liked the idea of going into my city centre to trash it & attack police doing their job. HTH

You crack on then and lead the way.

Hotcrossbunnyy · 30/03/2023 13:38

And it isn’t the country’s fault you haven’t been able to manage your finances.

Excuse you? You don’t know anything about my finances. Or more so you don’t understand the reality of being poor and assume like most tories that we are simply buying too many McDonald’s meals, pints at the pub and smoking.

Keep calm and carry on mentality plus years of brainwashing by the Murdoch press.

I don't think it's fair to stereotype OP!

Runningslow · 30/03/2023 13:42

I’m so glad we’re not like France in this respect. We’re in this position because of lack of money. I don’t see how vandalising places ( see the fire in the Bordeaux City Hall) helps. Riots cost money that we can’t afford.

2bazookas · 30/03/2023 13:43

You must be very young with no education in British history of the last 100 years.
The General Strike? CND? Miners strikes (again) in the 70's and 80's? Protests against war in Iraq?

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/03/2023 13:43

There are plenty of protests happening. Unfortunately they're not against the government, they're outside Asylum Hotels.😒

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/03/2023 13:44

Cross Post with @Kendodd.

lljkk · 30/03/2023 13:45

I'm frustrated by people who moan and moan, like all they know how to do is moan. Can't see the positives, can't see merits of small gains. Who put their energy into moaning (like it's safer & funner to moan) rather than acting locally for the good of whoever's life they can help improve.

Ted27 · 30/03/2023 13:46

Do you not think teachers, nurses, doctors, rail workers, civil servants, bin men, bus drivers etc etc taking strike action is not an indicator of unrest and protest?

Yes and when people protest they either get slammed for being "racist" or they go after the public instead of the people in charge (Just Stop Oil etc).

EuripidesEumenides · 30/03/2023 13:48

Marine Le Pen is waiting in the wings if Macron's government collapses due to the riots, not some progressive utopia. I'm chill about not having that in the UK.

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/03/2023 13:53

Loads of people are protesting or taking a stand in a range of different ways. Maybe you haven’t looked into them and would feel better if you did.

I’m sorry your circumstances are difficult at the moment. Directing your anger about that at the faceless “public” won’t improve things for you. You don’t seem sure of what you want to change or how dangerous riots on the streets would achieve it.

I was working in London in one of the areas trashed by the riots a few years back and it was horrifying and achieved the square root of fuck all. Innocent people, their businesses and homes were attacked by opportunistic arseholes and everyone suffered.

Me too. It was pointless destruction that cost communities.

You'll always get some folk who end up ram-raiding electrical stores for a new 8K TV. That's inevitable. Doesn't mean to say the corrupt, lying gits in public office shouldn't be hounded out by angry mobs, though. Worth another go, that's all I'm saying.

Logicoutofthewindow · 30/03/2023 13:56

@Hotcrossbunnyy Get out and protest then. You are just the same as the ones that you are castigating for doing nothing.

StopStartStop · 30/03/2023 13:58

Not seen women out on the streets then, protesting against our erasure and in favour of safeguarding children? We take to the streets. Join us.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 30/03/2023 14:07

Do you really want riots in your city and everything burnt down?

It is ordinary people who are going to have to pay for all the destruction that the rioters in France are causing.

We had riots in 2011. Don't you remember? Did you enjoy that?

Exactly.

Do you really want this for the UK?
