For March so far not including tomorrow’s shopping delivery of £230, I have spend £970 on groceries this month. Including tomorrows shop the last of the month the grand total will be £1200! Wtf this time last year it was about half that amount.
How much are you all spending? We are a family of 5 the 3 kids are aged between 11-16.

1 person about 350 to 400 a month. Do have to buy gluten free stuff which is far more expensive. No alcohol

Season0fTheWitch · 31/03/2023 18:06

4DC (5,4, 2, 4mo), 2 adults and 2 cats- around £1.5k a month for basic groceries i.e. not toiletries, including butcher bill

Atsocta · 31/03/2023 18:11

Two adults and one dog approximate food etc including cleaning, washing capsules etc £420 a month now ..

JessTD · 31/03/2023 18:23

We do about £500 a month. 4 of us inc a 3 year old and 1 year old. Snack consumption is high!!

wentworthinmate · 31/03/2023 18:37

I use HelloFresh and have just swapped to Gousto. Comes to approx £45 for four days worth of meals for two adults. I just get other bits for the other days of the week. I think it works out quite well.

Rhaenys · 31/03/2023 18:44

£150-£180 a month. Just me, no pets either.

You feed a family of 5 on less than £60 a week? Can you post a week’s shopping list please?

Grannyolive · 31/03/2023 19:02

Just myself and husband and I spend about £250 a month on groceries, including cleaning products and toilet rolls. Cook everything from scratch, batch cook and only have meat twice a week. Lots of vegetarian food.

1stTimeMama · 31/03/2023 19:06

Between £600 for 2 adults (sometimes only 1), 5 children, dog and cat. Animal food is on subscription, I shop at Lidl and Tesco and never do top up shops. I plan a menu weekly, and shop by a list.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 31/03/2023 19:07

I spend about £500 a month, 2 adults and 4 kids, 1 a teen. We shop in Lidl, don’t drink alcohol and eat meat maybe twice a week. Lidl do cheap cuts of meat, they do 600g of chicken drumstick meat for £2.50 or something like that. I cook from scratch mostly except the odd oven pizza. Lots of snacks, berries for pancakes at the weekend. Definitely don’t feel deprived, although I suppose we don’t have much branded stuff. The only expensive thing I buy is coffee. Lidl coffee is shite

SlothMumma · 31/03/2023 19:08

We budget £800 a month , 2 adults and one child plus a 🐱 That covers pretty much anything we need to buy , food , toiletries , cleaning products , washing stuff etc . some months we have money left over and some months we don’t . The cost of toilet roll and paper goods have increased hugely plus cat food. Pretty much everything has gone up 😔

Redinthefacegirl · 31/03/2023 19:19

This thread made me sit and total up our March spend.

2 adults 2 DC (8&6), includes all lunches except for the 6 yr olds school dinners as they are free.

All food, toiletries, cleaning etc £656.92 (£148pw).

£159.70 on eating out/takeaways.

This is actually almost the same as pre COLC, we've tried to be sensible but weren't monitoring it so I'm impressed.

MarvellousMonsters · 31/03/2023 19:22

Where do you shop? Switch to a budget super market like Lidl or Aldi. Meal plan, avoiding ready prepped food.

ssd · 31/03/2023 19:24

As long as you can afford it op theres nothing wrong

maddiemookins16mum · 31/03/2023 20:01

3 of us, up to and including a big shop today, £367.17 for the month including everything such as cat food, toiletries etc, cleaning stuff etc. We don’t buy alcohol, shop at Aldi, don’t like fruit but eat a lot of seasonal and frozen veg. Last month was £340.34.

7vio · 31/03/2023 20:14

Around £700 for 2 adults, one pre-teen and a dog…And we hardly buy any alcohol, maybe one bottle of wine a month…

Bewilderedandhurt · 31/03/2023 20:32

That's £80 per week per person. What an earth are you buying and where?
I'm sure you can make some wiser choices and meal plan to save money if you're interested.

AllTheChaos · 31/03/2023 20:32

Actually went back over the months receipts and checked. Roughly £600, for an adult, a 9 y/o with a hearty appetite, and several fussy but greedy cats. Includes over the counter pet medicines, toiletries, a certain amount of organic food, eco-friendly cleaning products and toiletries, plus eating out twice a month. Lots of fruit and veg, no alcohol or meat/fish. Involves shopping around and bulk buying when possible.

MamaBearBoo · 31/03/2023 20:33

We spend about £150 a week 2 adults 2 kids 3 & 7-we have a milkman too do this doesn't include milk or wine (we are with laithewaites but not on a plan only order as and when)!

CheshireDing · 31/03/2023 20:47

I am shocked people are spending so much on food ! We don’t have teenagers yet but have 3 DC, 2 adults, animals.

i spent £120 in Sainsburys 2 weeks ago and at the very most have spent another £100 on fresh greens, fruit, rabbit hay etc. I would be surprised if it’s another £100 actually.

We meal plan breakfasts and dinner for the week to use what is in the house, this weeks plan is red lentil Dahl, quiche and baby potatoes and veg, peanut butter noodles, quorn chilli and poppadoms, salmon and rice bowl, pepper and tomato omelette and rice, asparagus and manchego tart (random receipe I found on line). So a lot of our stuff uses the same basic stuff in the recipes.

there’s no way we could afford £1,000 to £1,500 on food every month !!

Mumgonenuts2020 · 31/03/2023 21:00

Glad it is not just me, I only do online once per week, including a smart pass of £8.99 to get free delivery. I spend all week going back into the app removing what we don’t need and adding what we need, we are a family of 4 and a dog.. so ours is £230 at the moment.. That is everything laundry, toiletries, packed Lunches, Meal Deals, Bundles and I try to take advantages of offers and send all the bags back every week. I remember During Lock down it was the same around the £200.00 mark..then last year I went through a spell of getting it down to £186.00 last year, then since February this year it has risen again. This month in particular it is £230 and Thinking this due to Easter as well, including our two nieces Easter Cards and gifts aswell.
