Me?

Blair. Brown, first bit of Cameron.

On paper I earn more money now but everything's tits up isn't it? From the economy to shit on beaches to being able to get access to the NHS when needed.

@HappiestSleeping I fancy Starmer a little bit. GrinIt's the "dad" arms and the football I think. And I trust him somehow, even though he's a politician now.

yuck!

He’s got that easy authority thing going on. You look to him somehow. I like it. 😁

Brown / Blair. I am eternally grateful that I was a single working parent under their governments. Their policies quite literally saved my life.

Liz Truss. They were entertaining days.

I enjoyed the lettuce but not the damage to our pensions and the hike to our mortgage payments.

I do agree. That damage wasn't enjoyable, but the rest was worth it for a day or two.

DBD1975 · 22/06/2024 03:38

Tony Blair without a shadow of a doubt, the best prime minister of my lifetime. A truly great and inspirational leader.

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 22/06/2024 03:45

Blair/Brown. I think Brown was a very underrated individual.

embolass · 22/06/2024 03:59

Blair too. Mid 20s newly qualified nurse, happy times worked and played hard

I agree. Sadly Brown wasn't media shiny, so never really got a proper shot at being in charge. It's why I said Brown / Blair instead of Blair / Brown.

At least we got some entertainment with the economic damage to our lives 😂

I love Gordon Brown. He has that “safe pair of hands” decent, governing for the country and for the people vibe.

I’m hoping Keir Starmer will be a PM in a similar vein There was a moment in the Question Time Leaders event where Keira Starmer referred to the point scoring of Sunak in the House of Commons when the mother of Brianna Ghey was in the building that reminded me of Gordon Brown. Same instinctive disgust for cruelty.

I didn't think that it would be popular to say so but Blair.

It is astonishingly popular to say Blair on this thread. 😃

That Labour government did what all governments should do.

It made people’s lives better.

DW and I were in university when Blair was in power, then we finished, and our careers and lives were in that lovely stage of being free of responsibilities but rapidly increasing earning power. That was a really good time.

However, we bizarrely did well (by semi accident) out of the financial crash and by the time Cameron got in things were really good for us and we just soared and set ourselves up for life between 2010 and 2015/16. Then we had our family and settled into the next stage of life, cut back on work a bit and focussed on the DC's.

Obviously kids are awesome and we love this stage of life too. DW enjoyed the Blair years slightly more as she loved the freedom and fun and zero worries, I was more a fan of the Cameron years as I liked the feeling of really setting ourselves up and that feeling of security you get from knowing there aren't many storms you couldn't weather, and providing a really stable foundation for the next bit where the family comes along.

I don't think either of these PM's or their respective parties had a massive, immediate effect on our happiness though, it was just the life stages we happened to be in at any given time.
