All inclusive

Looking to go away for a week at easter with DH and DS aged 3.
I am 6 months pregnant.
I am trying to convince my DH that we do not need to go all inclusive mainly because 2/3 of us will barely see the benefit.
Half board is much cheaper and he can buy as many bloody drinks as he wants while I sip my diet coke.
AIBU?!

Meandfour · 28/03/2023 16:39

Why will 2 of you not see the benefit?

santastolemycat · 28/03/2023 16:40

I am pregnant and my 3 year old doesn’t really drink alcohol yet!

purplecorkheart · 28/03/2023 16:46

What kind of place are you staying in? Hotel or self-catering. The last couple of times I went half board it was not that much cheaper than all inclusive. We were in a hotel so tended to eat out for lunch and between that and things like ice-creams, soft drinks and coffees we really would have been better going all inclusive.

Haha ok. All inclusive also provides an extra meal, unlimited snacks & ice creams but if you want to be shitty I’ll let you figure it out for yourself.

We don't go AI for the alcohol. We do it for the food. Which we eat while on holiday just the same as we do when we're not on holiday ....

bubbles2023 · 28/03/2023 16:51

I wouldn't if I were you. I'd go with half board for the reasons you gave.

Holidayneededplease · 28/03/2023 16:52

I’m pregnant and looking either half board or all Inc we went in oct all Inc (wasn’t pregnant then) but my 1 year old had a great time could just feed him whenever he wanted and loved the variety of the buffets for him he could try all sorts

Same 😂😂 never realised people went all inclusive just for alcohol but I guess that says a lot about them.

MoonBase · 28/03/2023 16:54

For me I couldn't NOT go AI with a young child

The never ending I'm hungry can I have a snack/ice cream etc the unlimited fruit in hand at the buffet just makes life so much easier

And at meal times when they can either eat loads or very little it doesn't feel like a waste.

But I can see why half board would work too for you currently

Itsbytheby · 28/03/2023 16:55

I found AI really handy with a toddler as it included a snack bar and the ice cream bar. Also handy for softdrinks/ water.I guess it depends on the cost difference.

santastolemycat · 28/03/2023 16:58

I am not saying I wouldn’t go all inclusive it’s just DH pretty much refuses to even consider anything else.

OP posts:
missally · 28/03/2023 16:58

My husband doesn't drink, I have an 18mo and we're still going AI! Makes so much sense not to worry about where to eat, food on tap (and drinks ofc!). Depending on the price you may as well.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 28/03/2023 16:59

I go all inclusive just for the food lol

BarrelOfOtters · 28/03/2023 17:00

If it's hot then it is great for the soft drinks, ice creams etc. They really do add up.

DashboardConfessional · 28/03/2023 17:00

Easter as in next week Easter? Booking now? Are you a millionaire? 😁

I'd just pay the extra for my 3 year old's snacks alone.

I go AI for the alcohol 🤣

Laiste · 28/03/2023 17:01

A comedian (can't recall who) did a really funny sketch about going half board and thinking you'll all be fine - who needs 3 meals a day? - and smuggling bread rolls and yogurts off the breakfast table for the kids lunches ... kids sick of it by day 3

😂

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/03/2023 17:01

It depends how much cheaper it is, snd the cost of food and drinks where you’re going.

Being able to budget well in advance and not having to worry about how much we’re spending while we’re away is a huge bonus of AI

Snowpatrolling · 28/03/2023 17:04

I go all inclusive and I dont drink, neither do my 2 kids (well the 15 year old probs does in a field somewhere who knows!)
it’s handy as they can just go to the bar and get snacks etc. and unlimited soft drinks.
going all inclusive next month and can’t wait!
id never do anything less again,

Comii9 · 28/03/2023 17:04

What is the destination OP? I personally find it cheaper. DS is 8 but I've always gone AL. Why don't you compare prices? What's the difference?

JudgeRudy · 28/03/2023 17:16

There are pros & cons to AI and their weighting will depend very much on the individuals going. Your OH is very unreasonable to say he won't consider anything but AI.
Here's a few things that came to mind that you might want to consider
To fully benefit from AI you need to be there to take advantage of what's on offer and to want what's on offer, so
Alcohol - if you're going to one of the Balearics rules have changedhttps://www.holidaypirates.com/travel-magazine/all-inclusive-holidays-on-the-balearic-islands-wheres-restricted#:~:text=The%20only%20thing%20that%20has,your%20all%2Dinclusive%20board%20basis.
Lots of places don't include branded drinks and bottled water (😟). They'll be cheap wine larger, probably no beer and a multitude of sweet squash/slush/pop.
Food
How big are your appetites? How picky are you? They'll be lots of foods on offer that would be risky whilst pregnant (cheeses, eggs, seafood etc) but I'd be very nervous about food poisoning in general.
Do you intend to stay at the hotel just so your son can have an icecream that afternoon or you get a slice of pizza/cake at 4pm.
I can't answer your Q but I think your OH is definitely unreasonable to only consider AI but more importantly hes an AH to disregard your views

All-inclusive holidays on the Balearic Islands: where’s restricted & where can you go for the REAL experience

Majorca and other islands have introduced restrictions on what you can get when you go all-inclusive. We’ve checked the facts for you and tell you...

Mumof1andacat · 28/03/2023 17:22

We don't drink but if we can go all inclusive we do. I remember taking my then 3 Yr old and then the following year he was 4 away. AL was ideal. Choice of food, plenty of snacks and lots of non alcoholic drinks (cola, water, jucies) ice creme and ice lollies too

ZeroWorshipHere · 28/03/2023 17:24

Meandfour · 28/03/2023 16:46

It’s not the OP being shitty here

DaveyJonesLocker · 28/03/2023 17:24

AI all the way. Soft drinks all day, when it gets warm get another one. Ice cream. Snacks. Wide variety of food. They can try something new and if they don't like it, it doesn't matter. Half board with a 3yo is gonna be pretty hard work I think.
