All inclusive

Looking to go away for a week at easter with DH and DS aged 3.
I am 6 months pregnant.
I am trying to convince my DH that we do not need to go all inclusive mainly because 2/3 of us will barely see the benefit.
Half board is much cheaper and he can buy as many bloody drinks as he wants while I sip my diet coke.
AIBU?!

Sorry I meant to say the point of my post was that in most cases we totted it up and AI was definitely a saving for all of us, even the non drinking members of the family. Rare that AI would work out more expensive (e.g. Thailand).

Veryxonfused · 28/03/2023 18:28

What’s the difference in price? Even soft drinks and snacks add up in price. I tend to find AI isn’t that much more expensive. It also depends massively on how much time you want to spend in the resort

You aren’t paying an adult price for a toddler though so that’s irrelevant.

Yes it’s the same price per person for all three of us.

We don't go AL because we don't drink alcohol so I know what you mean OP. We worked out recent holidays from AL to the equivalent half board / B+B "daily rate". You can easily buy drinks in the local supermarket ice creams / snacks etc., for less than the AL daily rate.

Same 😂😂 never realised people went all inclusive just for alcohol but I guess that says a lot about them.

What does it say about them?

shelbaba · 28/03/2023 18:49

I hardly drink anything but often go all inclusive. It's handy with young kids and unlimited soft drinks and ice cream during the day is fab!

ohsotired2022 · 28/03/2023 18:56

We went AI last year.
DH, me and 2 children.
My DH was the only one who drank alcohol but the kids loved the snack bars.

Ktime · 28/03/2023 18:56

YANBU, savvy holidaymakers can suss out what is better value for them, AI or HB. You are savvy, DH is silly.

I am pregnant and my 3 year old doesn’t really drink alcohol yet!

This made me laugh. I mean he's slacking!

ImAGoodPerson · 28/03/2023 19:21

We always went AI with little ones, definitely easier with meals/snacks and soft drinks can be really expensive.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 28/03/2023 19:23

We go AI, I don't drink, my 10 year old step-son only has max 4 vodkas a day - it's just cheaper all round with snacks and ice cream etc

Coffeepot72 · 28/03/2023 19:25

We go AI where we can, it’s such good value and you can run up a large room bill on soft drinks alone

KnittingNeedles · 28/03/2023 19:28

You probably could. But not everyone wants to go to the supermarket every time the kids want an ice cream. It's not always about the cheapest.

Definitely!

Xarrie · 28/03/2023 19:36

Soft drinks cost a fortune at the hotels we go to. I always book all inclusive although we don't drink alcohol.

Workyticket · 28/03/2023 19:47

I love AI - Means not having to take money or cards out. We always choose somewhere with plenty of bars and different food areas so we're not tied to 1 buffet for the whole holiday

BarbaraofSeville · 28/03/2023 19:49

How many ice creams are people having?

Surely you'll want to go to the beach or for a walk at some point, so you can just go out and have an ice cream then? We always make sure the hotel is near the beach, restaurants, a supermarket or convenience store, so easily walkable.

With a hotel breakfast and evening dinner, plus an ice cream, I wouldn't want a full lunch anyway, half the time, the ice cream is my lunch, so I probably wouldn't benefit from AI, we don't usually hang around the hotel in the daytime anyway.

The OP says it's quite a difference in price between HB and AI, which would suggest it's not worth paying for AI in this case, especially if they expect to be out an about each day.

Pleasepleasenomorecocomelon · 28/03/2023 19:56

I think I got the most out of all inclusive whilst pregnant 🤣
