For example, I had a few pounds spare in the food budget this week, so I sprung for the £1.20 lasagne sheets as opposed to the 90p ones. I know things are tough but what little things do you buy yourself to cheer you up a bit?

Candles, books from charity shops, malteasers.

JaneFondue · 27/03/2023 17:25

Rimmel or similar lipgloss
Green and Black chocolate
Charity shop buys: clothes, books, jewellery
I also love new underwear tho nothing v expensive

WellTidy · 27/03/2023 17:26

Ice lollies. I absolutely love them. There aren’t many I don’t like but, at the moment, the four pack or Valencia orange ones from Waitrose are really hitting the spot and work out at 65p each.

A bag of crisps. I'm on a seriously low salt diet for health reasons, but I crave crisps. I have to eat them one or two crisps a day because of the salt!!

Also double cream is a treat. And drinking chocolate in winter, ice cream in the summer.

What about the unsalted ones - do they hit the mark for you?

CammieKennaway · 27/03/2023 17:30

Some second hand books from World of Books

Blackcountryexile · 27/03/2023 17:31

Spring flowers and the Patisserie Valerie cakes in Sainsbury's when they're marked down in price.

Isledelaray · 27/03/2023 17:40

Fresh flowers but I won't spend more than £3.50!

I like the little apple and peanut butter dip pots from M and S but I can get a whole pack of apples for the cost so it's a treat. It doesn't work anything like as well if I make my own.

I also like doing a few Instant Games on the Lottery website once we've been paid. I put £5 on, buy a euro millions ticket, then play as many Instant Games as I can before I'm all out!

Isledelaray · 27/03/2023 17:42

@Tibbb yes to the Waitrise smoked salmon terrines! I don't buy them anymore and they're almost never reduced - the one time they were, I was so happy, it made my day!

lurker2003 · 27/03/2023 17:42

Iced coffee and books!

Forfrigz · 27/03/2023 17:45

Tea lights are my go to. The scented ones to light in the evenings. Also chocolate, nice to have little things to brighten your day.

Coldilox · 27/03/2023 17:48

Once a month I pay to be tortured for an authentic Thai massage.

Omg I love these too..Though mine are from Tescos!

stayathomer · 27/03/2023 17:55

Grapes, strawberry yoghurts, Aussie conditioning sachets, magazines, fudge … perfect night in!!!

WonderingWanda · 27/03/2023 17:57

I've stopped getting my nails done at the salon so treat myself to a new nail varnish every month £25 quid cheaper. I then treat myself to an episode of greys anatomy while I do my nails with base and top coat. Makes me happy.

I also love a digestive biscuit with an afternoon cup of tea (shh, don't tell the snacking police) and if I really want to indulge myself I buy shortbread (but I have to eat the whole packet then).

I love a good book and never mind splashing out.

Sometimes if I'm feeling frivolous I will go to the hand car wash rather than do myself.

BellePeppa · 27/03/2023 18:00

I’ve taken up jigsaw puzzling (hated them as a kid) as they’re supposed to be very good for your brain/cognitive skills. I buy them from charity shops normally but I like to treat myself to a good quality brand new one occasionally, it feels like an indulgence 🙂

moviesanddonuts · 27/03/2023 18:03

I buy the fancy tuna in oil – it's so much better than the cheaper stuff but ridiculously expensive so it's definitely a treat!

Augend23 · 27/03/2023 18:04

I got them reduced to £2.50 the other day. It was delicious with bread and butter.

DogsDryWineAndCheese · 27/03/2023 18:07

A nice bottle of wine (on sale) and maybe some cheese or the garlic stuffed olives you see at the deli. Yum (and also why I’m a bit of a fatty) 😊

StrawberryWater · 27/03/2023 18:11

Sewing stuff or craft supplies. Occasionally a computer game.

sausagelastrange · 27/03/2023 18:13

Really nice bubble bath

@Isledelaray they're so delicious aren't they? I prefer the packs of two large ones, but the six pack of small ones also doesn't last very long with me! Even better when they are reduced.

TellySavalashairbrush · 27/03/2023 18:30

Kindle books
M&S florentines
Wax melts
Elemis skin care products (only in airport duty free shops or sometimes QVC if they are on offer)
Chardonnay

AffIt · 27/03/2023 18:35

Books (always books).

Flowers.

Korean sheet facemasks.

Books.

Oh hell, yes, this.

I bloody love tinned tuna anyway and have no pretensions around it whatsoever, but I bought some fancy Spanish stuff recently and it was next level.

CoolCalmCollected · 27/03/2023 18:38

A "share" bag of Revels that I hide keep in my glove box 😂

Random toiletries/cosmetics on the TKMaxx/Homesense clearance shelves.

OPI or Essie nail varnishes.
