To feel ashamed, embarrassed and not know how to fix this?

Avatarthewayofwater · 25/03/2023 18:51

I've taken the image from Google as I'm far to embarrassed to take a picture of myself.

Any weight I gain goes on my stomach and due to emotional binge eating I find myself here.

I did have ultrasound scans to check nothing underlying was going on, but no its visceral fat and only I can get rid if it.

The problem is I've changed my diet completely and calorie counting and eating healthy along with exercise. Yet nothing has changed stomach wise.

I'm so self conscious and I can't wear normal clothes because I constantly look pregnant.

Even at the gym I hide in a big hoodie so no one can see.

It's making me depressed and I don't know how to get rid of the stomach fat.

Has anyone else been like this and managed? I had a c section years ago and have an underactive thyroid if that makes any difference.

Please be kind...

A four egg omelette?!! Bloody hell that’s a lot of eggs!

So, you felt that was a helpful thing to say just as she was starting to feel good about herself?

Dita73 · 18/04/2023 04:31

@PousseyNotMoira yes. Eggs are full of fat. She’s is doing great and also has needed advice since the beginning. I’m just pointing out a fact

There are considerably more sensitive and helpful ways to do that than: “Bloody hell that’s a lot of eggs!”

Oh, please. You said A four egg omelette?!! Bloody hell that’s a lot of eggs! Where’s the advice?

Don’t try to spin this as you trying to be helpful. You offered no help.

Peridot1 · 18/04/2023 09:43

Eggs are not full of fat. Eggs are full of protein. Fat yes but outweighed by the goodness in them.

Exactly. She had lots of protein and veg, and had 300 calories left in her allowance, so doesn’t need to cut any more - she’s not trying to starve herself. So she doesn’t need their ‘help’, anyway.

But they clearly weren’t trying to help.

Dita73 · 18/04/2023 09:53

Knock yourself out then. Eat as many eggs as you like as they’re so good for you and see what happens

Peridot1 · 18/04/2023 09:59

And what will happen?

Merryoldgoat · 18/04/2023 09:59

@Dita73

You are woefully out of date in your nutrition knowledge.

Eggs are a brilliant food when dieting. They have healthy fat and lots of protein and zero carbs. They are filling and tasty and one of the best things to have for breakfast.

My cardiologist said that he recommends all of his patients eat lots of eggs and cut out processed food and refined carbs.

When I listened to him weight literally dropped off me and my cholesterol halved whilst I lived on eggs, meat and ate butter cheese and mayonnaise.

Dita73 · 18/04/2023 09:59

@Peridot1 give it a try

Merryoldgoat · 18/04/2023 10:00

@Dita73

Well I did try it and was healthier than ever. So what’s your point?

EyesOnThePies · 18/04/2023 10:00

It's made me realise that emotional eating or reaching for comfort food will still always be there.

The constant mantra is don’t beat yourself up or blame yourself for that, but recognition is great.

But you can slowly introduce new nice things. For me, keeping a tube of luxurious hand cream handy was good. I loved rubbing gorgeously scented cream into my hands, the scent, the effect on my skin, and the side effect that hand creamy hands aren’t great for cutting big slices of the sourdough loaf!

My friend sent me an aromatherapy balm which I used on my temples. I am actually sceptical about aroma as therapy but it was lovely and soothing as a moment to enjoy something nice.

Sometimes, if you like them, buy a couple of bunches of tulips and make a point of really looking at them and enjoying them.

That sort of thing. Giving ourselves pleasure and enjoyment is important. We can gradually encourage our brains to look at sources as alternatives to food.

But one step at a time, don’t pressure yourself.

Dita73 · 18/04/2023 10:02

@Merryoldgoat obviously cutting out processed foods and carbs will make you lose weight. Nothing to do with eating eggs!

Merryoldgoat · 18/04/2023 10:05

No, but they didn't hurt me like you implied they would.

Dita73 · 18/04/2023 10:07

@Merryoldgoat well they wouldn’t do if you were already in a situation that required a cardiologist

Peridot1 · 18/04/2023 10:07

Well before I try it @Dita73 I would like to know what will happen? I need to know what to watch out for after all.

Dita73 · 18/04/2023 10:10

@Peridot1 no I was totally wrong. Ignore me completely. Follow the advice of @Merryoldgoat and the weight will drop off and you’ll feel better than ever before. Enjoy! 🍳🥚

Still taking all your comments on board.

Today I've had or am having:
Breakfast: overnight oats with a handful of strawberries and a snack shot. Flat white.

Lunch: a 400 calorie chicken gym kitchen meal

Tea: 3 egg omelette with spring onions, peppers, mushrooms, low fat cheese.

Snacks: a snack shot, a 400g grape and melon medley from asda.

Works out as 1,445 calories so 15 over my daily recommended for slow weight loss.

I do have a 45 minute spin class before tea which I'm sure will burn a decent amount.

Sounds great to me 👍🏻

There was an expert who said the following worked for them: before any meal, they would eat a salad/bulky vegetables.

They said 1. This helped them feel full. And 2. Apparently the science was that your gut is lined with the spinach or whatever, so the rest of the meal is absorbed more slowly. I think the person was a dietician. I watched it on Good Morning Britain or something like that years ago.

Filling up on veg seems like a good idea.

They're full of protein too.

Also we need fat in our diets.

Avatarthewayofwater · 19/04/2023 06:03

Did my 45 minute spin class yesterday evening and this morning I'm off to a body tone class.

Feeling absolutely shattered this morning as didn't sleep well. Possibly due to feeling hungry.

Have a great day all.

Your advice is based on very outdated information. Providing your diet is otherwise healthy, there's nothing wrong at all with eating a lot of eggs.
