Is it okay for an 8 year old? I'm thinking a massive no but dh actually thinks it's alright... because we apparently used to watch way worse.

So who's being unreasonable here me or dh?

Me and dh made the very stupid decision to watch this one before we went to a theme park. Well, it was a market held in the same place as a theme park. We usually spend the morning at the market, and then the afternoon on rides. We managed one ride. We clung to each others hand, and pretty much squeezed our eyes shut Grin

I'm glad it wasn't just me 🤣

smileladiesplease · 23/03/2023 19:43

WHAT!!

Your dh is a twat! I watched this with my teenagers and it petrified me. They needless to say thought that was hilarious but 8??? My 7 year old grandson watches Percy the park keeper and Disney films.

It's actually a safe guarding issue allowing small children to watch horror or porn. Your dh needs a reality check

I wouldn’t let an eight-year-old watch it. But people were letting eight year olds, watch squid game, so there will be people out there who agree with your husband!

Final Destination is far gorier than squid game

Justforlaffs · 23/03/2023 19:46

No - I was scared by that as an adult! Your dh is a moron.

CrinklyLoveStick · 23/03/2023 19:47

No way!!
I watched Theatre of Blood when I was about 11 and couldn’t eat chicken pie for YEARS.

These things stick with children.

comedycentral · 23/03/2023 19:48

EIGHT? No of course not!

phoenixrosehere · 23/03/2023 19:51

Definitely not. I love those movies but no way would I show it to someone that young. Guaranteed nervousness and possible nightmares.

Pretty sure there are a few memes about those movies because people still talk about them, especially concerning the second movie and the pile up.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 23/03/2023 20:07

You'll never get them on a plane again - I was a nervous flier before watching that film and it put me off for life!

WiddlinDiddlin · 23/03/2023 20:11

Fuck no, jump scare after jump scare, and pretty graphic/gory as well.

I won't watch it again, nor any of the others.

And I love horror... I just don't love endless jump scares and teased jumpscares.

XenoBitch · 23/03/2023 20:31

Hell no. Totally inappropriate. It is not like it is full of monsters/aliens that you can explain away to a child as fantasy. The "death's design" plot aside, most of the deaths in it could actually happen. You could not tell a terrified child that people never get hit by buses, or die in plane crashes. In one of the later films, one of the death's was inspired by a real life event (the one where the guy sit's on a drain in the bottom of a pool and has his guts sucked out).

You also might struggle to ever get them on a plane.

Maybe wait until they are in their 30s.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 23/03/2023 20:32

I’m pretty laid-back, but no.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/03/2023 20:33

Absolutely not.

Someone is literally beheaded.

IncompleteSenten · 23/03/2023 20:35

Wtf is wrong with your husband?

What next? He pours your kid a whiskey, lights a cigar for him and shoves Debbie does Dallas in the dvd player?

BillyNoM8s · 23/03/2023 20:38

It's a teen film. A great teen film. Definitely not for eight year olds. What's he got planned for tomorrow night? "I Know What You Did Last Summer"?

I love the teen horror type films from that era.

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 23/03/2023 20:39

Definitely not.

Out of all the TV programmes, films, free view contents, streaming content available that is available and age appropriate, why is your dh wanting your dc to watch this?

MandyMotherOfBrian · 23/03/2023 20:39

Christ, no. I stupidly watched it the night before a flight to the other side of the world. Really, really wished I hadn’t. And I was 20 years older than your DC.
(that said, Final Destination 3 did cure me of my subbed addiction, so all good).

Summerbubbles · 23/03/2023 20:41

Absolutely not

I've driven behind a log truck on more than one occassion since watching... always get the heebs 😅

Rifalo · 23/03/2023 20:48

One of the reasons I won't fly and I'm late 30s. No way would I let a young kid watch it

TheHoover · 23/03/2023 20:50

No. DH is a twat. Nothing more.

quietnightmare · 23/03/2023 20:51

No

FictionalCharacter · 23/03/2023 20:59

Why would he want an 8 year old child to see graphic scenes of people being horribly killed? Does he not believe that the age limits are there for a reason? If he really sees nothing wrong in it I’d be worried about what he might show the child behind my back. As a pp noted, showing gore movies to children is considered a safeguarding issue.

ifoundthebread · 23/03/2023 21:00

When i used to work nights my dd would tell me that dh used to let her stay up late so they could have a film night after ds had gone to bed. I didnt think anything of it until we were out one day and I was behind a wagon carrying huge logs/tree trunks and she said "can we move, its like final destination" i asked how she would know that and it turns out he had been watching movies including halloween, IT and final destination. She was 7, his defence was the same, i used to watch them when i was younger.

I hit the roof, yeah you might of and you still bang on about it now how it was scary and your mother went off it when she found out so why repeat the cycle? Idiot.

Fleurysur · 23/03/2023 21:05

No WAY. Unless you want them to have a fear of flying forever

Fleurysur · 23/03/2023 21:07

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 23/03/2023 20:07

It took me years to get over it!
