i live down the road from a school and during the school rush parents park everywhere it normally worse in the afternoon at 3pm

I work from home and usually park in the visitor pay outside my house so my partner can park on the driveway he gets home 3.30-4pm

however recently people have been parking on my driveway last week I caught someone pulling in knocked on their window and they argued with me saying they need to pick up their child eventually they did move but moved to where they were just half way blocking my drive way and halfway blocking my neighbor so no one could access it!

I didn’t bother confront them again but in future I’m just thinking to block them in… is that too petty

I have reported it to the school but all they’ve said is they’ve already asked parents not to block residents in so I’m not sure what else to do.

(if I did block anyone in it would only be for 30 minutes to cause a bit of stress and a lesson learned)

I would without a doubt op

YANBU, Parking on someone's driveway is top tier CF behaviour. I'd do the same if I were you.

harriethoyle · 23/03/2023 10:50

Absolutely do this. They'll soon stop.

Dacadactyl · 23/03/2023 10:50

I would just park over your drive so no one can park there at school run time.

memesndmoreme · 23/03/2023 10:51

Block them in and then go out a nice long walk

drpet49 · 23/03/2023 10:51

The entitlement, how dare someone park on your driveway. That is outrageous. I’d block them and also shame them on local Facebook groups.

WandaWonder · 23/03/2023 10:51

Bur by blocking can you be fined? Is it not technically breaking a road rule?

Yes we can say it is your own driveway but I still think it's illegal?

If so stick a note on I am not sure what the school can do

girlfriend44 · 23/03/2023 10:51

I'd tell them first quite clearly and not aggressively that's its an offence to block a drive, and how would they like it done to them.

Then if they still do it take a pic of car and report it. If they won't listen to you, then they might listen to authorities.

Been there got the t-shirt etc.

Lots of selfish folk who won't be told, but turn it round on them, tell them and then go to authority if they still won't listen. Good luck.

Brefugee · 23/03/2023 10:51

but then OP has to go in and out to let her DH park.

Block them, OP, and tell them you'll move your car to let them out and your DH in when he gets back. Then ignore 😃

Blocking someone in could lead to a very aggressive situation, so I wouldn't. You say 30 minutes just to cause inconvenience, but what if the parent has an appointment somewhere and they can't get to it?
Can you put a bollard or similar to stop the parking?

Surely this? Just block your own drive before they turn up?

Mumsafan · 23/03/2023 10:52

Block them in! I did it on more than one occasion when I lived near a village school. My elder DS once stood out the front telling the Mums who tried to park that he'd "watch yer car for a quid" . 😂

People move bollards. The official way to go is the best and calmest.

Brefugee · 23/03/2023 10:53

get super sticky things to put in an inconvenient place on their windscreen that say "Fuck off parking on my drive"?

nobody has mentioned Penguin bollards yet but that may be the answer

Brefugee · 23/03/2023 10:54

then they shouldn't be a CF and park on someone's actual drive?

Brefugee · 23/03/2023 10:54

put an invoice on it? 20 quid a minute?

Not if it's your own drive.

I do this often. Watched one bloke go to great pains to wriggle out of my drive without having to knock on the door.

Eventingmum · 23/03/2023 10:54

I would put a sign up saying £5 for 10 mins and wait to collect it

Well maybe it would be a lesson well learned and stop them doing it again.

Tough shit. They shouldn’t park on other peoples driveways!!!

The reason I park in the visitor bay out the front is so my partner has somewhere to park near our house otherwise the visitor bay would be taken (which I obviously can’t moan about as it’s for visitors)

I purposely leave our drive clear for him

If it's legal to do this without registering with the council then it sounds like a good solution.

QuertyGirl · 23/03/2023 10:57

Yes!

So what if they get aggressive? Go in the house and call the police.

I'd suggest a large plant pot with some spiky in on the bottom of the drive, your DP can move it when he gets home.
