Nurses, would you vote yes or no to the current offer?

On the face of it 5% is insulting.
But since Pat Cullen went into more detail
about what it entails and they also seem to be saying take it, or we might not get a better offer (or words to that effect) I'm dithering between yes and no.
On the other hand, Wales voted no on their 4% offer (I'm unsure if there was any other offers along side that).
Im torn but beginning to wonder if I should vote yes...

YABU - I vote no!
YANBU - I vote yes!

If this paltry offer is accepted then we are stuffed for yet another decade plus. For the sake of nursing, midwifery and the NHS the answer has to be NO.

Donotunderestimateme · 22/03/2023 12:20

@merlinpass 10.4 % for people on lowest banding - bringing them in line with band 3 pay.
compared to 5% for other bands

Oh that's quite the tactic isn't it.

Maggie178 · 23/03/2023 06:25

I'm not a nurse but work in the NHS on AFC pay scale. I'm undecided. The offer is abit deceptive. The one off bonus payment makes no difference to our long term pay. 5 % is essentially another pay cut in real terms. I think the offers rubbish. But given the NHS won't be around much longer maybe we should just take it.

towarduntoward · 23/03/2023 06:48

I would like to know where the money will come from? Existing budgets (will see greater staff lost / down banded posts as a result) or from the government?

I hope the general public don't think this pay rise will 'sort the failing NHS' as it will do nothing to entice more people to train to work in the NHS so all the same problems will carry on and care will get worse. Although I can hear it now 'bloody nurses doing a crap job again, they got their pay rise, what are they moaning about now' 🙄🙄

OhHoneyHoney · 23/03/2023 06:49

I’ll be voting no. It’s an insult.

So the nurses went on strike and now the band 2s in all staff groups (this includes staff without a nursing role) are getting a good deal and the nurses are getting shafted again.

Doesn't everyone on AfC get this pay rise if accepted though? This is what happens when you're on the same framework- you'll never get a decent pay rise whilst they have to apply it to admin and corporate staff too- who didn't strike. I'm thrilled band 2s are going to be actually paid an hourly rate above the living wage; long overdue and I hope they accept and hope nurses fight to be removed from AfC. Paramedics might have had a chance at a decent payrise if they were separate too.

Baxdream · 23/03/2023 06:58

I'm public sector too. It's funny how we become so used to poor pay rises and pay freezes over the years. We've had years of awful pay increases yet I'm hoping for 5% (I'm not a nurse). Yet I should get 15% (clearly won't happen!)

TheEliminator · 23/03/2023 06:59

It’s definitely a crap offer. However, if they gave a larger rise and took the monies from existing NHS funds, then what? Services will decline waiting lists will continue to rise with staff leaving, thus causing more stress on the ones left behind! It’s just awful all round.

UseOfWeapons · 23/03/2023 07:08

I’ll be voting no, reject the offer. I’ve heard what Pat Cullen has to say, but quite frankly, I would rather continue to struggle financially, than accept an offer which will do nothing for the profession long term. It’s not just about pay. The one-off bonus would be very helpful, but it’s not going to help me, my colleagues, or the NHS to have better staffing, which ultimately affects the patients who we serve.

Some of my colleagues are thrilled, especially about the bonus/non-consolidated payment/bribe, and this saddens me. Nurses have been conditioned to accept poor pay and dreadful conditions, abuse, and continually thrashed or applauded. It’s time to keep saying ‘no’.

Pottedpalm · 23/03/2023 07:51

Not a nurse, but my DiL is a sister on an ICU and s worked to a point of exhaustion. She voted to strike but understood that she could not join in with the action. ICU were promised that a certain ‘minimum’ level of staffing would be provided on strike days; this proved to be higher than the staffing rate they had had to work with since Covid.
I say refuse the offer and keep the momentum
going.

Lovelent23 · 23/03/2023 08:45

How well can any further negotiations go when the leadership who'd be sent back to the table have made it clear they don't believe they can get any more? How committed will they be? Why would you offer negotiators more in that case?

MoonlightMemories · 28/03/2023 12:35

Unison sent out email voting links today (and just as well as a weird glitch in the system means I can't reset my password to login in and change my address for post to get sent to me and they weren't very helpful in trying to sort it out at the last strike voting).

I voted no, I believe the offer is far below what we're worth (not a nurse, a band 2 but many nurses I have spoken to believe we are too low a band for what we do day in and day out!).

Some of the 5% is already coming from existing NHS funds. Which is another reason it should be rejected. I thought a reason for striking was wanting a pay rise AND it to be government funded. The 5% is not.

lookluv · 28/03/2023 14:18

Problem is you re not voting for a payrise for nurses - you will be viting for a payrise for everyone in the NHS bar doctors.

Every manager, admin person etc will get the same

Shesasuperfreak · 28/03/2023 14:27
