To hate it when posters decide to focus on the minutiae of a thread?

So I have to use a hypothetical example so I’m not making TAATs. But for example someone posts at the end of their tether with parenting and amongst countless other issues one of their children have chucked sand around and they’ve spent the afternoon trying to hoover it up. And then posters decide to ‘help’ by telling the OP to get a new hoover, often delivered with ‘job done’ and the Hmm face rather than actually supporting with the whole issue!

It happened to me recently on a thread (not that example) and drives me mad. AIBU and should expect barked two word solutions to all difficulties in life?

OP posts:
jays · 21/03/2023 19:47

I hate it even more then the reply is ‘why do your children have access to sand OP?’ It drives me insane! That’s not what the OP was asking …. It’s quite the in thing to do these days on here - almost always the first or second poster trying to derail it and set the tone and give everyone else licence to be unkind… classic example here on this thread …. First reply… just annoying. I think these posters hope to create a pile on for some reason if they get in early enough with a crappy response. Happens all the time now and it’s just draining.

cupofteaandabiccyplease · 21/03/2023 19:53

I'm more concerrned about 1000's of homeless squirrels being reduced to living on tree branches as they do not have fully furnished dreys. Makes 😡and😩in equal amounts. Oh, sorry we were talking about people needing five bedroom homes for a family of three.

I sort of secretly love it, because it’s strangers on the internet so I’m not really invested, just browsing while feeding the baby. And it’s hilarious:

”While having an ice cream in the park with DC, I was caught up in a police chase earlier with three helicopters, Lord Lucan and an escaped tiger!”

First reply: “Why are you feeding DC ice cream, that’s so much sugar.”

Second reply: “Ice cream in this weather? It’s freezing.”

Third poster: “It’s not freezing everywhere” and then an argument about the exact temperature takes over the thread.

And this website is FREE!

🤣

MapleSyrupSweet · 21/03/2023 22:01

@bussteward are apples bad for horses? 🤔

IncessantNameChanger · 21/03/2023 22:07

Yes it's on all threads now

Op - there was gas leak and my house blew up killing my pets and I have lost everything

Reply. It didn't 'blew up' That's semantically incorrect. Also, where is your punctuation?

ThuMuClu · 21/03/2023 22:07

I absolutely hate when posters correct spelling and grammar. Unless you are in a teaching capacity and have been asked to do so, correcting someone’s spelling and / or grammar is just incredibly rude. I cannot stand it. However I do enjoy when someone does it and then makes their own error in their correction It’s almost worth the rage I feel at the original transgression.

lazycats · 21/03/2023 22:08

Yes, I know what you mean. It’s one notch below full on trolling: deliberately missing the forest for the trees to score a cheap point.

CrosswordConundrum · 21/03/2023 22:10

malificent7 · 21/03/2023 18:44

The spelling and grammar corrections are the worst.

Op: " my mums' partner just died.
Poster: "don't you mean mum's?"

Or worse still “dont you mean mum’s”.

Quickly followed by, “of course I know about apostrophe’s, mine was just a typo”. 🤔

youshouldnthaveasked · 21/03/2023 22:13

Oh, that one the other day when someone posted about their toxic mother posting an unflattering picture on Facebook and loads wrongly accused the OP of posting their life on social media was annoying.

CrosswordConundrum · 21/03/2023 22:15

What might trump the grammar police is the “it’s all about me” posters who just take over and prolifically make post after post; ‘well when this happened to me, I’m an expert, let me answer all the questions’.

After I'd shared something painful and emotional on the Stately Homes thread about my mum correcting my grammer all the time to put me down, someone PM'd me to tell me it was grammar, not grammer.

Paaahahahaha this. I cannot imagine how some people on here actually get through real life. Getting worked up about bullshit and strangers online 😭lols

I do love passing the time here though - there's plenty of comedy gold to be had and like you say, all for free!

U sure that ya mums not a mumsnet user 🤔

HeddaGarbled · 21/03/2023 22:26

Sometimes, the seemingly trivial extra bit of information that gets picked up on by astute readers is either a giveaway that the OP is lying or revealing of important stuff they didn’t realise they were revealing.

Divorcedalongtime · 21/03/2023 22:29

I think plenty of people are only here to make themselves feel better by battering people who are already struggling

Hawkins003 · 21/03/2023 22:33

I understand your perspectives op, it's a mixed bag

Me too! I especially love it when the seemingly inconsequential detail turns out to be important eg
OP: My DH hates my new coat. It's blue with a fur collar and buttons.
Poster: Are the buttons in the shape of whales? I know I had a coat like that and it upset some people.
OP: Yy you're right! And DH did lose his entire family in a freak whaling accident.

IncessantNameChanger · 21/03/2023 22:44

Do wonder someday why I stick around, some of the site is so toxic. If I ever post needing some anonymous venting I always get a kicking. Someone over Christmas was being distant with me, mn verdict was I was a controlling, miserable bitch. Imagine the surprise when I found out the person was withdrawn from me due to a life changing fuck up they was hiding from me. Probably due to me being a controlling, miserable bitch. Mob gaslighting.

HoneyPotBee · 21/03/2023 22:52

I alway hate it when someone ask for parenting advice and a poster asks why their husband isn’t pulling their weight? It’s a parenting forum mostly used by women. Of course we are going to be on here asking questions. Doesn’t mean husband isn’t doing his share. It makes me think there are people deliberately trying to undermine posters and make them think they have bad marriages.

GoldenSongbird · 21/03/2023 22:55

I also love the posters who constantly complain about how awful MN is - as though they're being forced to post here against their will. There's even a Flouncers' Corner for goodness sake! It's not Hotel California, MN couldn't make it any easier for you to leave. 😄

TheShellBeach · 21/03/2023 22:57

"It makes me think there are people deliberately trying to undermine posters and make them think they have bad marriages"

If you spend much time in MN you could be forgiven for thinking that most people do actually have bad marriages.

🤣🤣is that me?! :) Sorry OP, I'm bored! And to be fair, your post was calling out for it :) couldn't help myself! Yes, I do need to get a life :) well, today I do :)!

No… you’re boring.
