To think the reintroduction of the wild Wolf to Belgium is insanity?

HoppsAndSpice · 20/03/2023 23:50

Wild Wolves have been reintroduced into Belgium over the last couple of weeks. This has led to the great dismay of the local farming community and outrage from the country as a whole. I am personally thinking about the many farmers who will lose cattle and sheep to the wolves and the impact it will have on their livelihood. Also the impact it will have on the wider ecosystem as a whole which could see various creatures such as rabbits, hares and other small mammals hunted in large quantities.

Wolves have a very inefficient digestive system as do most carnivores which means they need large quantities of meat to survive.

Its a very interesting one but I think this needs resolving urgently as a matter of urgency.

Also putting my hand up to deal with any excess crayfish you may have.

Excuse me I don’t understand your point. There are no wolves in the UK and no giant rabbits and therefore if reintroduced they would be an invasive on both counts. The society I can support tries to deal with the invasive such as crayfish but we don’t have the resource to continue on with this trajectory.

Well after the UK has been invaded by illegal migrant Belgian wolves it would make sense for us to take some of Belgium's out of control giant rabbit population also, as a means to both feed our new invasive wolf pals, and relieve Belgium's Leporidean crisis.

Putting your hand up where, exactly? Hmm

I'm pretty sure they won't be swimming the Channel or climbing onto the roof of the Eurostar.

Hahahaha

Notegoat · 21/03/2023 00:22

So the real issue is how do we get the wolves to focus on the crayfish.

Can we get them to deal with the squirrels first please? I think I’ve got one living in my loft. I’ll pay them in bowls of lightly battered crayfish.

KilljoysMakeSomeNoise · 21/03/2023 00:26

I am imaging the wolves lining up on the coast of Belgium eyeing up the UK as their next plan of attack.

At least they might get rid of the grey squirrels and crayfish (can they see in colour? Wouldn't want them going for the wrong colour squirrel)

What do you think about the reintroduction of beavers here?

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 21/03/2023 00:27

Well I certainly won't be putting any limbs up or out during any upcoming Channel crossings, for fear of them being bitten off by migrating aquawolves.

Pylor · 21/03/2023 00:27

By coincidence I saw some wolves today and took a picture of this as it was so interesting!

Re- introduction of the species has had good feedback elsewhere.

That’s just the kind of solution we need. Perhaps throw in a lemon butter sauce.

AbsolutelyNebulous · 21/03/2023 00:27

What’s the name of your eradication society OP?

Kerfuffler · 21/03/2023 00:27

Beavers could potentially dam the channel and create a bridge for the wolves.

Pylor · 21/03/2023 00:28

Sorry pic didn’t attach

geojellyfish · 21/03/2023 00:28

"It is possible that working in conjunction with certain humans these wolves would be reintroduced globally"

Are you saying the reintroduced wolves are villainous and would be looking to strike up strategically advantageous alliances to bring about world domination? I can see why you would be concerned.

Beavers are really stupid. I don't like their derpy faces. That's probably mean. But they aren't like the noble wolf.

Goodread1 · 21/03/2023 00:29

@HoppsAndSpice

Read 📚 up on wildlife conservation Rewilding iniatives,

Stop scare mongering too

Wolves existed in Europe 🇪🇺 in past in history, but were hunted to almost extinction by people,

Same/similar kind of stories as other wildlife too, all over the world,

Yes there are invasive species that were introduced, to the detrimental to other species,

I am sure the relevant Authorties have done enough research consulted other relevant Agencies/organisation 🙄 for their point of view,

Let's see how thise works out, pans out long term,
Re Wilding,

People cause much more damage environmental and are detrimental to sentient creatures in that regard .

How many animals/wildlife are treated horrifically badly by humans hands ???
Such as poaching wildlife ect

Let's get real...

Pylor · 21/03/2023 00:29

Gah why is the attach pic function so rubbish on MN!

Are lemons native to the UK? We don’t want another Japanese knotweed situation on our hands. Not on top of the squirrels, crayfish and wolves.

Aha, it's a plot! They're all in it together.

I, for one, welcome our new Wolf (and beaver) overlords.

Of course they're bloody villainous. They'll huff and puff and blow your house down if you're not careful.

Notegoat · 21/03/2023 00:33

I’m concerned that Suella Braverman will send the wolves to Rwanda.

Don’t forget the crayfish

Nextlevelnonsense · 21/03/2023 00:33

@HoppsAndSpice
I'm glad you mentioned Amazon
I just went on there and ordered a small flock of Tigers.
They will be delivered to Belgium before 10am, via Prime

Should make them a bit less smug

Fraaahnces · 21/03/2023 00:33

They were a native species hunted to extinction by humans. Surely the entire landscape has been changed as a result and the idea is to return it to its original balance. A bit hard given the lack of forestry and introduction of roads, cities and mass urbanization, but I love the idea of wolves. Unless you’re Little Red Riding Hood, I can’t see the problem.

deeplybaffled · 21/03/2023 00:34

Unfair. The crayfish got here before them so they need to have a decent go at the Overlording bit before the wolves take over.

Kerfuffler · 21/03/2023 00:35

Maybe the beavers could rope in Aslan as well.
