Neighbour brings home commercial waste

hexagon123 · 19/03/2023 13:51

My neighbour had a damp proof company and brings home rubble in bags and leaves them by the side of his house. He will eventually hire a skip and load all the rubbish.

He's not a direct neighbour but annoys me.

Should I be annoyed?

Are they in your way or causing obstruction to anyone other than the owner?
If yes, YANBU
If no, YABU

hexagon123 · 19/03/2023 13:56

@Lemonandorange it's putting weight on a wall for a garden that's got a house rented to people with learning disabilities.

The skip is now taking up space on the road,

It's also an eyesore to drive past it.

Should I be annoyed?

only if you want to be. If it doesn’t affect you then don’t be annoyed for the sake of it

Doesn't everything affect us?

No

hexagon123 · 19/03/2023 14:00

@SnarkyBag I guess you have a few things that bother you, that won't bother me.

You happy for a neighbour to bring home a skip full of rubbish and use their front garden as a dumping ground?

OP posts:
takeawayandwine · 19/03/2023 14:01

Hiring a skip costs money every day so presumably it won't be there long term. It's unlikely to make the rented house crumble and it's really otherwise a minor inconvenience.

I'd say smile and wave and let people get on with their own business.

SnarkyBag · 19/03/2023 14:07

Not sure how it would affect me directly though? I might think well that’s a bit of an eye sore but other than that it just wouldn’t impact me in anyway.

DDivaStar · 19/03/2023 14:10

It's annoying but it's minor. In reality it has nothing to do with you.

LIZS · 19/03/2023 14:33

If skip is on the road it need a licence from council which will be time bound.

Wonnle · 19/03/2023 14:36

Why ask a bunch of random people on the internet if you should be annoyed or not ?

You either are or you are not !

No, not really 🤔

Daftasyoulike · 19/03/2023 14:40

Sounds like you haven't got enough to think about OP!

OneTwoP · 19/03/2023 14:42

Yabu. This is their livelihood and none of your business. It doesn't impact you, unless you're curtain twitching all day?

HappyScotch · 19/03/2023 14:43

Don’t be ridiculous. What a curtain twitcher

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 19/03/2023 14:45

hexagon123 · 19/03/2023 13:58

Doesn't everything affect us?

Only if you let it.

ScreamingInfidelities · 19/03/2023 14:48

hexagon123 · 19/03/2023 13:58

Doesn't everything affect us?

Eh, no? My neighbours’ lives/houses/driveways/rubbish have no affect on me whatsoever.

justasking111 · 19/03/2023 14:49

We had a neighbour son was a mechanic, SIL a builder. He built massive bonfires with tyres and building waste, wood etc. Now that was annoying.

Thats for the letting agent/LL to be bother by. Maybe it’s his boundary wall?
The skip is now taking up space on the road
Does it have lights attached? If not then by all means report it to the council/ check permits are in place
It's also an eyesore to drive past it.

I'm not sure what the relevance is here?

It's putting weight on the garden wall of a house and a house that's not even yours.

GreenWheat · 19/03/2023 14:50

Yeah that would annoy me. I really dislike building crap and skips all over the place. Not much you can do about it though if it's contained on his property and isn't a public health hazard.

My old neighbour was unemployed and to earn some cash people used to drop their crap they would have to pay to take to the skip (plaster board etc) and he would have huge bonfires each few weeks to burn it all once it had built up. We lived in a flat so this took place in the green to the back only our flat. The fire service were regularly called to put the bonfire out. Now that was annoying.

Be as annoyed as you want, waste your energy on it if you want. But it will change nothing!

Cocobutt · 19/03/2023 15:17

This wouldn’t bother me on the slightest.

Is this a reverse?

crosstalk · 19/03/2023 16:34

I'd be concerned if it were going to be a continual process eg bags stored, skip to take bags, then more bags stored and another skip ad infinitum. It sounds as if his business isn't making enough money to have a proper storage space. However, if he's not a direct neighbour, it's not blocking your road and it's not asbestos then you shouldn't be so annoyed. Presumably what he's bringing home is just old plaster board and rubble? Why don't you have a word with him?
