To like package holidays where the evening entertainment is a bit 'Phoenix Nights?'

You know - fancy dress competitions for the children, Bingo, drag acts, etc etc.

You know with the type of dance floors you see on clips of 'You've Been Framed' of people slipping over there on?

Alicante anyone?
AIBU?

I usually think of myself as quite the classy type but we stay at a really nice hotel in Mallorca that has epically shit evening entertainment AND I LOVE IT

Last time we went there was "Mr Snake" who charged E10 for a picture of your kid stroking his boa constrictor (ahem)

He had erected some curtains on stage which he popped his snake through while saying "it's coming through the flaps"

DH and I were on the floor. It was pure Pheonix nights energy.

You are not alone @Lasagebe!

YANBU. Phoenix Nights is quality & growing up in the youth club in the 90s was literally like Phoenix Nights😂every Saturday & I love going on holidays like it. Make the best memories.

Lemons1571 · 15/03/2023 22:19

I love it! Particularly tribute act bars, preferably a different act every night. Cocktails and dancing, often making friends as well. Brilliant. It’s not the only sort of holiday I like but it’s up there.

Each to his own.

SlightlyJaded · 15/03/2023 22:25

Hate it, but DH and DC Love it.

Best ever (apparently) was in Crete when the Reps did a full scale production of Mamma Mia in the faux amphitheatre with live falcons and a the Meryl Streep character in drag.

DC used to live the 'Kiddie Disco' - especially learning routines to Las Ketchup and Macarena.

I think that once you are over 14, you have be reasonably drunk on Sangria maybe? Don't know. Not a snob but just can't seem to see what they see.

Canuckduck · 16/03/2023 03:02

You should all go to Mexico, every night they have a big ‘show’ like this. Usually ladies of the 80’s/90’s with entertainers in drag. Disney show (definitely not licenced!) and Michael Jackson (!!). So funny.

Personally I'd like to live permanently on the set of Phoenix Nights! Grin

Me too 😂

Oh god no. We once stayed in a hotel in Turkey with an "Animation Team', who basically spent their time forcing people round the pool to participate in various activities, a polite no thanks did not suffice! One of them was a dwarf, and he was a total bloody pervert, always crawling under women's skirts and untying bikinis. I had a bit of a sense of humour failure with him and he left me alone after that. Never again! Anyway, his John Travolta impersonation was quite something to behold, I will have that mental scarring for life.

Oblomov23 · 16/03/2023 06:28

We've been watching Phoenix Nights again this month. So funny. No monkeys for me, but I do love Brian. Zantac Kenny quote above made me laugh. Grin

BringItOn2023 · 16/03/2023 06:41

This is why I love Haven type holidays in the UK and not Centre Parcs. I love the buzz of the cheesy night out to look forward to after a day at the beach etc. It would feel a bit lacklustre without all the razzmatazz 😂.

ArcticSkewer · 16/03/2023 06:45

Someone has to keep them in jobs.

follyfoot37 · 16/03/2023 07:24

Lasagebe · 15/03/2023 19:20

I've had a similar thing / but it was monkeys in Majorca !

Paying for animal cruelty. Hope you both are v proud @QueSyrahSyrah and @Lasagebe

Love that type of holiday - reminds me of the holiday camps that I used to go to.

Mitchumforthewin · 16/03/2023 07:35

I’d rather never ever go on holiday again than to anything like that. Literally. I’d rather stay in my house. I can’t stand it - so crass and not funny and just awful.
but that’s fine - you can all go and I’ll go somewhere civilised!

RizzlesKick · 16/03/2023 07:38

@follyfoot37 can I just say I was 9 at that time - when I was a bit older had a photo in another resort with a huge snake. I was much younger then and I've since felt that exploiting animals/reptiles is wrong and I haven't done this kind of thing since. I completely agree that snakes and monkeys are not there for human's entertainment - I hate this kind of thing now so this aspect of those holidays I don't agree with

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/03/2023 07:39

It is so alien to me I cannot imagine a holiday with that. Never experienced it. Maybe I’d love it, but 99% sure I would have to find a different hotel.

It’s cool that people do though, it would be a boring world if we were all the same.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 16/03/2023 07:39

Sweet Jesus, I can think of nothing worse and actively search for hotels without any evening entertainment.

<shudders at thought>

Omg I would have loved this Grin hilarious!

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 16/03/2023 07:55

This is why I love caravan park holidays.

We used to go when I was small, and we did a few with my nieces and nephews, always good fun Grin

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/03/2023 08:01

Me perfect holiday would be 5 star sophisticated luxury in the day and this type of entertainment at night.Havent found it yet though.

Anyotherdude · 16/03/2023 09:32

They are not for me personally, but I think it’s great that there is the choice available - and given the numbers of package holidays that are taken each year for exactly that kind of social entertainment, you are not BU to enjoy them if that’s your thing.

SherbetDips · 16/03/2023 09:33

You mean a chavs holiday! No thanks haha
