Term time job mon to Friday PLUS 22 days annual leave.
Working hours Mon - Thurs 9-4, salary take home salary not too brilliant at £1470 though which is putting me off! Friends say this is the holy grail of working hours with 2 primary aged kids, I'm on the fence 😬

I don’t really understand the point of the post, it doesn’t sound like you are unsure at all?

What are the negatives over your current job?
So far we know it’s a 15 minute commute, requires minimal childcare, term time, and £100 a month more but presumably for less hours.
Do you actually have reservations? Why did you apply for the job if you were ‘on the fence’?

Because I'm going from a 3 day week to a 4 and I'm on the fence as my home life is very stressful (autistic eldest high functioning but HARD work), no family support at all unfortunately, also been in current job 7 years so it's quite a big decision for me and wanted advise 🤪

So the equivalent FTE must be around £32k then yes that’s a good salary for no qualifications and you should go for it!
Is it actually a school job ? It seems a lot unless it’s on a higher pay grade more senior role/ finance officer ect? I think my manger is on FTE £32 and she’s a high up finance manager. Most schools are not very good wages but the benefits are that you get lots of time off and decent pension scheme. Just making sure you have worked the wages out correctly. Unless it’s public sector which pays more if it’s right then go for it!

NoSquirrels · 13/03/2023 20:37

Are you currently TTO on a 3-day week? Do you find school holidays hardest to manage, or do you find the days you’re working most stressful?

It sounds like a great job - if it is a good fit for your life. Is it?

bibbybox · 13/03/2023 21:20

is it a school job?

Freshstarts22 · 13/03/2023 21:29

I was doing Mon-Fri 9-3 TTO and my take home was less than £1100 so sounds good to me. I didn’t actually pay any tax so that was my actual salary before tax.

theysaiditgetseasier · 13/03/2023 21:52

It's a public sector role with civil service, I'm currently in the private sector not term time, I love my 2 days off but now my eldest is going to secondary this year they point blank refuse to go holiday clubs, so holidays are going to be a real issue.

Really happy in my current role and love my work colleagues, work / life balance, but....management are not flexible to offer TT or home working and not sure how I'll manage if I stay.

The 4pm finish would wind me up. I'd prefer it to be 3pm.

However, all other t&c's seem to look reasonable so I'd certainly consider it.

theysaiditgetseasier · 13/03/2023 21:54

@Whippetlovely yes! It's just over £32k pa for full time 😀

Don't you miss both school runs? 9.30 to 3 better.

theysaiditgetseasier · 13/03/2023 22:07

@Commonsensitivity I need to cover 28 hours over 4 days, they offered me option to do 28 hours over 5 days but I'm not wanting to work 5 days as feel it would be too much, I need a day to myself as my eldest autistic and very demanding.

S'pose I could do 8.30-3.30 but I'm not a morning person!

will you pay into a pension

theysaiditgetseasier · 13/03/2023 22:10

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 13/03/2023 20:20

What's the job then?

It's a civil service role EO grade

theysaiditgetseasier · 13/03/2023 22:12

@bibbybox yes, not sure what it is though

CatOnTheChair · 13/03/2023 22:26

It's 28 hours a week. 34 weeks of the year. About 0.5 FTE, I think?
Sounds pretty good to me.
I work TTO. DH does a lot of the term time stuff - so he collected the ill teen last week. I cover the days he travels, and school holidays.
I started this when the oldest was part way through Y7, and youngest in Y5. Youngest had some adapting to do - he didn't remember me being anything other than a SAHM. Childcare was a big shock, so he did a lot of growing up, and had a front door key earlier than I was happy with. The holidays at home are fabulous - in some ways even more vital as they get too old for childcare, but a week home alone while parents are at work is a bit too much. Add in some annual leave to reset from what sounds like a demanding homelike, and I think I'd be grabbing it.

Binfluencer · 13/03/2023 22:28

Has your DH does his turn of part time/career limiting working? Sounds like he won't be pulling his weight childcare wise with you doing this role?

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 13/03/2023 22:28

Congrats if you take it :-)

theysaiditgetseasier · 13/03/2023 22:46

@CatOnTheChair thank you for your reply and sound advise , I agree childcare much harder the older they get! 😀

@Binfluencer husband is the main breadwinner and I like it like that, I've never been career minded and PT is what I wanted once I'd had children, he is a fabulous dad & husband, I'm content with my lot.

Thanks @Comeonbarbiebrianharvey I think I'm going to accept 😀

Thanks to all that replied, it's really nice to get some impartial feedback

Do you like the job itself? Will it interest you?

bibbybox · 14/03/2023 06:23

that will reduce your take home pay because you will pay in more than normal but that's a good thing.

Oblomov23 · 14/03/2023 06:34

Sounds good to me.

Singleandproud · 14/03/2023 06:43

@theysaiditgetseasier it sounds great. Just be aware that if your eldest is in year 6 and hard work at the moment the symptoms of autism can get more difficult and effect the child (and family) more with the move to Secondary School and as puberty starts. It can be a very difficult time.

The job itself sounds great, depending on which area of the public sector and what the job entails you might be able to wangle WFH days or more flexible start and end times.
