To think DH should tell me if he's going to cross the road like this? (Light hearted)

If I'm crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing, I usually walk perpendicular. If DH is next to me, he often walks at an angle towards our eventual destination (see pic), cutting across my path, which I find annoying. I tell him he should warn me - if he was in a car he would be expected to indicate, not just just cut me up. He thinks his path is logical, and that I should instinctively walk at the same angle. Aibu?

It depend how busy the crossing is, if there are no other pedestrians, then I am on team DH, if there are more people crossing, then you are doing it right!

Well it's always busy with at least one other person (me) who doesn't like being cut up.🙂

You’re not supposed to cross the way he does at all, as you’re meant to get out of the road by the shortest route.

He shouldn’t be crossing that way in front of dc

GoodChat · 12/03/2023 16:37

Sorry that was the kiddo!

YANBU at all. There's a reason crossings are painted with straight lines!

SaladBarNanny · 12/03/2023 18:07

I would normally cross the way your DH crosses, but I wouldn't cut you up if you were crossing strictly on the perpendicular. To be totally honest, it sounds as though you're both a bit oblivious to each other's movements!

@millyshmilly

No comment on the issue but EXCELLENT diagram. Should set the standard for all others from now on.

I also applaud the diagram, and agree with you.

EnthENd · 12/03/2023 18:42

My family swear crossing diagonally is a Brummie thing. Maybe; I think it's more just a big city thing.

Twinedpeaks · 12/03/2023 18:51

I'm dh. I wouldn't cut you up but I might give you a shove or a hip bump to go the right way!

Tontostitis · 12/03/2023 18:51

My dh does this and then gets cross if I point out how rude it is. He's the same in the kitchen just cuts across me I think it's because he has a Penis and thinks that gives him automatic right of way. Otherwise he's amazing but it's a very annoying trait.

Nowi · 12/03/2023 18:54

I just had to take the time to say loving your diagram skills! What line of work are you in?!

WineCap · 12/03/2023 19:11

I don't understand how he thinks he is going to save time with this method if he is walking with you as he will still need to wait for you to catch up.

Also, if he is so keen to move diagonally then I would always stand on the side that would avoid being cut up and then walk very slowly while he waits for you to catch him up. I'm a petty though...

Doesthepopeshitinthewoods · 12/03/2023 19:14

Important man, coming through. Out of my way, lowly woman.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 12/03/2023 19:47

This is one of my major bugbears when crossing roads. If everyone walks in a straight line, no problem. When you've got people coming towards you and they walk diagonally there's always a point of intersection with your own line, which is annoying and potentially dangerous when you're in the middle of the road doing a side to side dance.

WAK IN A STRAIGHT FUCKING LINE!

Leeds2 · 12/03/2023 19:52

The one crossing I use regularly, I always cross like DH. But I promise that I never cut anyone up and, if you start to walk on the diagonal immediately, you don't ever come across those who are walking in a straight line.

Scuttlingherbert · 12/03/2023 19:57

Is he a bishop or something?

FadedRed · 12/03/2023 20:02

😁 great!

OP you should pull a knight move next crossing

Pixiedust1234 · 12/03/2023 20:03

Why isn't he standing on your right if he wants to go diagonally? It seems he just wants to piss you off rather than go the shortest route. I dare you to ask him that, I'm interested in his response.

Johnisafckface · 12/03/2023 20:19

I wouldn’t care if he did this as long as he doesn’t bump into me or I have to pause to let him by.

but I’ve never experienced anyone cross like that so maybe it would be more annoying if it actually happened to me

But you can see by OPs (world class) diagram that that's simply not true. If he'd been on her right then he wouldn't have intersected with her but potentially with other people crossing who were coming towards him in a straight line.

At an underpopulated crossing this is just about bearable. Try crossing Orchard St between Oxford Street M&S and Selfridges at any time of the day and you will find how potentially dangerous diagonal crossing can be. Especially with the variables of tourists with suitcases added into the mix Grin

Believeitornot · 13/03/2023 06:15

My DH is a diagonal cut across crosser and it’s fucking annoying.

smellyflowers · 13/03/2023 06:25

Can he not just stand on the other side of you at the crossing
