To think DH should tell me if he's going to cross the road like this? (Light hearted)

If I'm crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing, I usually walk perpendicular. If DH is next to me, he often walks at an angle towards our eventual destination (see pic), cutting across my path, which I find annoying. I tell him he should warn me - if he was in a car he would be expected to indicate, not just just cut me up. He thinks his path is logical, and that I should instinctively walk at the same angle. Aibu?

Is he a bishop or something?

😂

Star for diagram

Can he not just stand on the other side of you at the crossing

I came here to say this lol. It would annoy me that he walked diagonally.

This made me laugh too much!

Snoken · 13/03/2023 06:54

I’m with your DH on this. It would feel unnatural for me to cross in a straight line then do a 90 degree turn. I’m penis-less as well, but from this thread it sounds like I’ve got penis privilege.

itsgettingweird · 13/03/2023 07:05

100% for the diagram.

0% for not taking the quickest route across the road

Based on your diagram you're clearly a reasonable sort, so I've voted YANBU, even though I would do what your husband does.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 13/03/2023 07:08

I would cross like your DH (assuming it was safe) as it's quicker and feels more natural to me.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/03/2023 07:12

Diagonal vs straight depends on the crossing... proper marked crossing you stick to the marked path, veering only to avoid people coming the opposite direction

Busy road, unmarked crossing.. as quickly as possible

Quiet road, unmarked... avoid any parked cars, but generally move in the direction want to if no traffic.

What ever the crossing, its not an excuse to rugby tackle your companion.

But if you had someone on your right, would you tell them, or just bump into them? That's the real question here.🙂

@millyshmilly I'd expect them to cross the way I was crossing tbh Grin

LlynTegid · 13/03/2023 08:14

I do as your DH describes, though not to cut in front of anyone.

PleaseJustText · 13/03/2023 08:18

My DH does that to me a lot. Even worse, he does it on the zebra crossing in the supermarket car park but ends up leaving the crossing before he gets off the road. I don't understand why he can't just walk in a straight line and get out of everyone's way.

CharitySchmarity · 13/03/2023 08:26

How long have you been together? If you know he's going to do this, can't you try to anticipate it and make sure you're a bit further ahead of him so he can drift sideways without inconveniencing you?

25 years! 😁 I'm hoping to train him to at least make a hand signal.

Walk faster and sharpen your elbows. Grin

Shodan · 13/03/2023 08:41

What a splendid diagram!

If your DH wants to minimise his crossing time, surely he should be standing as far to the right of the crossing as he can? He has all that spare time while waiting for the lights to change to find the optimal position.

He needs to up his chess game.

OhNoYouKilledKenny · 13/03/2023 08:55

Mine doesn't cross in front of me....mainly because he crosses at a rate of knots, while I lollop behind like a three legged hippo.

BruceAndNosh · 13/03/2023 09:03

He can cross diagonally but he should pass behind you not in front.

pizzaHeart · 13/03/2023 09:03

It would annoy me as well. It’s the same as changing lanes without indicating - you can easily clash. It’s the dangerous attitude on the road. The goal is to get out of the road quickly and safely and the best way to do it - by the straight line. We all do a bit of cutting from time to time on an empty crossing if there is no other road users and it’s fine but it seems he’s got this attitude all the time regardless of others. He can run a short distance after the crossing to win some extra time if he’s so desperate.

pizzaHeart · 13/03/2023 09:04

Oh forgot to say that your diagram is pure joy. Thank you.

SinnerBoy · 13/03/2023 09:10

I love the diagram and the bishop quip!

Crossing in front of me would drive me mad, too.

Avariceagain · 13/03/2023 09:22

With a diagram like that, you cannot possibly be wrong

purpledalmation · 13/03/2023 09:45

Diagram is superb
