The BBC is catering to the government and not the general public

Now the BBC won't broadcast one of Sir David Attenborough's new series on British wildlife because it cause backlash from Tory politicians.

Since the BBC has two main TV channels, why not have one of them for lefties and the other for righties? That way nobody is offended and everyone is happy?

The only trouble with that it is there is a huge spectrum of opinion to the left of the current government. Ranging from right wing politicans like Kenneth Clarke and John major, through moderates, left of centre like the Labour party to the far left.

A lot of countries have this requirement so I don't see it as much of an issue. I'm more concerned about foreign interference.

Agreed. I think voting with an ID gives another layer to stop electoral fraud. I've never understood why some people are so against about identifying themselves when they cast their vote. Surely you want to make sure no one else can vote in your name?

"Wild Isles was always a five-part series.

The sixth film is a BBC acquisition for iPlayer. It was never going to be shown on telly.

The film stars Attenborough but was made for the RSPB and WWF, not the BBC."

Of course, we must undoubtedly believe a former Times columnist on this, and not a screen shot of the BBC's own web page...

Read the thread. He posts a screenshot too. The original commissioning announcement days 5 episodes.

Why is it always assumed that older people vote conservative. Very few of the ones I know do and I certainly don’t and never have.

Absolutely - many of us stray across the spectrum of politics.

If it was a genuine problem yes but it isn't. It is politically motivated.

Also, the WWF have also said it was a separate episode

"No. Saving Our Wild Isles, which this article is referring to, is a complementary documentary produced by by Silverback, the National Trust, the RSPB and WWF. It is inspired by the Wild Isles series but not part of it and therefore BBC have acquired it for iPlayer."

TodayInahurry · 11/03/2023 13:08

I have read that it was made to be only available on Iplayer, no idea why. As I loathe football perhaps the BBC could save millions by not pay the huge sums for the rights to show it, get rid of the overpaid pundits and make some decent programs, like they used to!

Florenz · 11/03/2023 13:12

I don't mind football but I see no reason why the BBC should be paying licence fee payers money to show it when commercial channels would be more than happy to, and the BBC taking themselves out of the bidding would lower the price as well.

Arsepants · 11/03/2023 13:13

I quite fancy Gary Linekar

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2023 13:13

A lot of the licence fee payers are football fans.

Verylongtime · 11/03/2023 13:18

Moonicorn · 11/03/2023 11:42

The BBC are a left wing organisation. An awful lot of their content is about ‘sex positivity’, mental health, gender identity, etc

Even daily Mail readers want to see the program so I think there’s more to it

The BBC is not left wing!

Florenz · 11/03/2023 13:19

Licence fee payers can watch football on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 or whatever channel decides to show it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2023 13:22

Is talking about Mental Health a woke lefty thing now @Moonicorn?

The BBC is quite left wing compared to the current government and its supporters, occupying as it does ground that could probably be best described as marginaly right of centre.

Like the menopause, mental health is a left wing problem.

MumOf2workOptions · 11/03/2023 13:30

I couldn't care 2 hoots about Linekar and his cronies but I'll be pleased not to have to pay for a tv licence!

Nat6999 · 11/03/2023 13:31

Iam4eels The whole country ought to apply for postal votes in protest of this new law, it is a way of cutting the vote numbers. If you are homeless, underprivileged or someone who doesn't have a driving licence or passport unless you can apply for the new identity card you can't vote.

Florenz · 11/03/2023 13:32

The BBC is mostly staffed by lefties keeping their mouths shut for the most part. Most of their staff are middle-class university educated Londoners, with a high number having received private education. It is not at all reflective of Britain as a whole.

EthicalNonMahogany · 11/03/2023 13:38

I'm something to do with the documentary and honestly I can promise you i was told about 4 months ago that the extra episode was iplayer only
I promise- but appreciate this is evidence that is hard to judge as you don't know where it comes from.

As Stewart Lee might say, this story is not true, but what it tells us about the BBC might be true...

Well, that’s not true, is it? Just one fact: the majority of BBC staff aren’t Londoners and don’t work in London; and it’s been that way for nearly ten years.

EthicalNonMahogany · 11/03/2023 13:40

And please look out for Schrodinger's Woke Lefty on this thread... the BBC employee who magically simultaneously

a) Is spouting their woke lefty liberal opinions everywhere probably including pro climate change stuff
b) Is scared that funding will be cut so is pandering to the right wing government by keeping quiet about climate change

Which is it?

Soapyspuds · 11/03/2023 13:44

The solution is make it subscription only and devoid of state funding.

Then those that watch it can pay £40 a month or whatever the going rate is, those that do not can save £150 a year and the presenters can have their freedom on social media.

Problems solved.

Exactly…since when were MH problems a woke lefty ailment? 🤔
