Full disclosure I know this is privileged but it's not a goady post, I know shopping is an emotive subject because who wouldn't want to spend more money on food for their family. So this is not about me complaining or even half pretending ny life is difficult so please don't see it as that .I have been having threads about shopping for months as it's important to me and I've been thinking about making our money work harder that we spend
I am a sahm so o have the time to do the shop that way ( I do it online)

I was not convinced we were saving any money we bought a lot of stuff that wasn't good quality a lot of things mouldy or crushed and the refund process is not like with Ocado
I resent their subs but I had no missing items and one sub which was fine and a good price
The Asda shop I did for crisps etc frozen things branded and some bits that are good from there and I used Asda points card, it was £139 and I used £107 in points so I don't feel upset but I had 14 missing items and 5 substitutes which were nothing close to what I wanted

I did use both apps at the same time and it is a fiddle but I did £230 on Ocado to stock up a bit as I had a voucher for 25% off
It's still been the same cost for our weekly shop at Asda but with a few things that make a difference from Ocado

Has anyone done something like this and do you get used to it? If I did all on Ocado shop would be at least £400 every week

Thank you

Are you asking if it is ok to shop in 2 different supermarkets? Or am I missing something?

TrombonesAreNotBones · 09/03/2023 09:12

Do you live in a shoe? You must have loads of children.

Mamamia7962 · 09/03/2023 09:13

Eh? You can shop where you like.

Zebedee55 · 09/03/2023 09:14

I use a mixture of Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury and Ocado...depending on what I need that week, and any special offers going.

I thought that was normal?

You don't have to remain loyal to just one shop.😗

Rainbowshit · 09/03/2023 09:15

Huh?

WellTidy · 09/03/2023 09:16

i had a Sainsbury’s and Waitrose delivery in the same time slot last week. Both deliveries came at exactly the same time. I like certain things from Waitrose but Sainsburys is generally cheaper overall, as you’d expect.

But it was surprising what was cheaper in Waitrose - two packs of their nicest hot cross buns cheaper than the sainsburys equivalent, as was the sliced sourdough bread, extra large pineapple, mesh oil dates, there was an offer on walkers crisps etc. And some things just aren’t available in sainsburys. And other things I prefer the quality in Waitrose like soft fruit (slightly more expensive but much nicer).

Do you do this every week? Does it take up a lot of time
I've used Asda every week for the last six months and then gone to get bread at Sainsbury’s we eat Jackson's
But then they stopped and Waitrose is a long drive. I wondered if anyone uses two online shops a week to get what they want? Thank you I found this helpful
I don't know why I felt sucha. Loyalty to Ocado. I think it's because it was so helpful during lock down and when I was sick for five years it was so helpful

But it is so expensive for some things not all though and I'm wanting to take advantage of the things I can afford to get there because we miss eating them

No I don't live in a shoe but I do have three kids

£400 a week? How many people are you feeding?!

I have tried several others, but Ocado all the way for me. Barely ever anything missing or subbed.

WellTidy · 09/03/2023 09:16

medjool dates!!

This is exactly how I feel and I was so shocked to see Ocado had a lot of products that were affordable and actually cheaper then Asda!!

payday supermarket GIF

Asda is too expensive for me. Sainsburys is cheaper (for the shit I buy anyway!).

You can shop where you like though 😂

What an odd thread.

Scarfywarfy · 09/03/2023 09:19

When I lived in London (oooh how I miss london)

Ocado used to deliver to us every Friday and would give me either wine and flowers. Or gin and flowers!! 😍

During the heatwave they gave me some very nice lemonade lollies!

Long time ago now...

I'm retired and have a delivery saver thing going with them all.

So, if we want M&S that week, I order some stuff from Ocado. Then the main (larger) shop I juggle between the "cheaper" stores.

It doesn't really take that much time, but there's only DH and I at home, so I'm not pushed for time anyway.

I've never used Aldi or Lidl, so I don't know what they're like.

By the way, you can mark goods as "no subs" on all those shops other than Ocado.😉

welshpolarbear · 09/03/2023 09:21

This is a very odd question op.

A lot of people shop around, I remember as a kid 35+ years ago going round four different ships with my Mum as she needed to buy the cheapest things in each.

Ocado (or any of the others) won't be loyal to you, shop for what you what/need, where you want. That shouldn't even be a question?

Lastnamedidntstick · 09/03/2023 09:22

wtaf? For 5 people?

I don’t think your issue is where to shop, but what you’re buying.

we’re a family of 4, kids are older teens. My budget is about £150-200 every 10 days. I use ocado as I find it’s as cheap as anywhere else but with better subs, service, free delivery slots etc.

what are you buying for £400/week? I don’t think I could manage to spend anywhere near that!

IncessantNameChanger · 09/03/2023 09:22

I used to shop in just one place, but now I use sainsbury's, Tesco and Lidl across the month. Things I need from Tesco home delivery are regularly out of stock online, Lidl is normally half bear. Sains is fine but somethings are a bit cheaper elsewhere. I have no brand loyalty any more.

flutterbyebaby · 09/03/2023 09:22

I shop everywhere depending on my mood 😊

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 09/03/2023 09:25

You can shop with whoever you want whenever you want, no one’s watching!
I have Ocado midweek pass and sometimes top up with Asda or Sainsburys or Tesco or whoever I can get a slot with. I’m not particularly loyal to anyone!
I like Ocado only because I can generally get what I want without substitutes much of the time. Asda’s convenient for impromptu top-ups but the quality isn’t as good and isn’t necessarily cheaper.

Aixellency · 09/03/2023 09:28

I remember when Ocado used to offer a free Times newspaper with every delivery. Happy days!

OP I don’t really understand your issue? I have a weekly veg box in addition to my regular Ocado order. And if I want larger quantities of any specialist food - wholefoods, wine, cheese, fish - I order from a relevant supplier.

You certainly don’t need to feel any obligation to any shop - but on the other hand convenience might trump price in some instances. I know people who do chop and change according to relative prices on any given day - but that might be awfully time and energy consuming.

flutterbyebaby · 09/03/2023 09:30

Has anyone noticed Ocados flash sales have gone rather down the pan?

Ragwort · 09/03/2023 09:30

Shop where you like, I don't really understand your question Confused. I have no supermarket loyalty, I prefer to shop every few days (never done an online shop in my life - even during Lockdown) ... I just go where I like, certain places have things I prefer ... I am also that sad person who loves going to a brand new supermarket or visiting different supermarkets on holiday etc.

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 09/03/2023 09:31

I find it priviledge to shop in asda rather than ocado considering the shop costs me usually less with ocado

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/03/2023 09:31

Shop wherever you want, you don’t need to stick to one. I mostly shop in Tesco (and almost never have missing items on click and collect) but also go to Lidl, Aldi, sometimes M&S and Sainsburys. Don’t worry about loyalty.

But what the heck are you eating for £400 a week?! Do you have 5 teenagers?

BarbaraofSeville · 09/03/2023 09:31

OP, I'll tell you what I do, but you might want to sit down as it will blow your mind.

I don't do a regular weekly shop.

I don't stick to one, or even two supermarkets.

I don't buy the same things each week.

What I do is rotate around available supermarkets to get the best price for the things we buy and, for non perishables, keep a stock in so everything is bought when on offer/from the cheapest supermarket.

Instead of a regular big weekly shop and a top up shop, it probably averages out at two medium sized shops a week, that consist of a top up of bread/milk/fruit and veg, plus anything we like/need from where I feel like going/are passing/have vouchers for etc etc. Over time, it probably saves hundreds of pounds a year, and that's when we're only shopping for two people, who don't spend very much. If you're spending £400 pw Shock, you could probably cut that down by about £100 pw or over five grand a year.

But what on earth are you buying? You sound like the people on Eat Well for Less, that's an insane amount of food. Do you waste a lot?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 09/03/2023 09:32

Looking at Ocados operating loss and share price( catastrophic fall), this is not a ‘problem’ which will trouble you much longer.
