Got to take two days off so want to do something fun and make the most of it (and not have a houseful of classmates!). Might go somewhere that would normally be super busy over school holidays and weekends.

Any ideas?

What if everyone does this 😄?

Zola1 · 08/03/2023 18:56

Most places have been busy the other strike days!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/03/2023 18:58

Last time I managed to get decent priced tickets to Frozen the musical and it wasn't that busy, don't think London teachers were on strike.....perhaps travelling to a different area is key here 🤣

Not everyone supports strike action. I know a lot of people who did support it but are now extremely pissed off and lacking in sympathy.

What, after two strikes? I can understand disagreeing in the first place but not really changing your mind after two days of strike action. It's hardly a long, drawn out situation.

The two day strikes are all England teachers rather than the staggered area ones like last week.

I'm presuming the OP isn't a teacher and is having to take time off to look after her children.

I'll be at work, DH has been offered out as childcare to any of dd's friends that need it.

I'm not sure if ds is in or not.

User0610134057 · 08/03/2023 19:17

My sympathy is waning as it’s a massive problem for me with childcare tbh and feels unfair as it’s only some classes at dds school that are affected.

BCBird · 08/03/2023 19:17

As a striking teacher I will be staying in because no doubt it will busy. Don't want to strike but we have to.mske a stand. Annoying that some people who are eligible to strike at my sch choose not to. Part-time member of union🙄

DoesItMakeYouFeelBetter · 08/03/2023 19:19

@BCBird I agree

Zanatdy · 08/03/2023 19:20

Well my DD gets online work so can’t go out! So just like an old lockdown day or the new style snow day like today where she logs on from her bedroom

Palegreenstars · 08/03/2023 19:21

My work are supportive and I’ll make up the time, so we’ll go share our support on the picket line and then go see relatives. It’s tough, my kid hates the disruption but my anger is with the government. The damage they are doing to eduction is huge.

CalistoNoSolo · 08/03/2023 19:24

DD will be revising and I'll be working. I have full sympathy and support for all striking workers. They are doing what we should all be doing - trying to hold this wankfest govt to account.

It's the cumulative effect of all the strikes, not just the teachers

Ah, apologies!

how about booking a night away somewhere nice? Midweek breaks can be a bargain.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 08/03/2023 19:53

I also support the strike....just want to have a nice day off.

I've used the last ones to do fuck all.My kids just played in the living room and I sat and read a book. It was bliss and the kids bloody loved it.

Pineapplestropical · 08/03/2023 19:58

We did soft play was crammed one strike day. Other day we just took dd for lunch and shopping

Pinacalola · 08/03/2023 19:59

Mine aren't striking but if it's going to be a long weekend then I would try and get a mini break if you can afford to, lots of hotels have really reduced rates this time of year, places like caravan parks might still be off peak as well? Either that or a day out to a theme park or a day to do cinema, bowling, a meal out and arcade. Obvs depends on your budget and what your kids enjoy. But days off in term time are rare, I would want to make the most of it too.

Kinda miffed mine aren't striking now actually!

bumpytrumpy · 08/03/2023 21:32

We haven't been told which classes are in & out yet. Annoying!

My kids get set a fuck ton of work. What the teachers think they should do in an hour lesson, so 6 hours of work. Except that takes a child like my middle DD (12) about 12 hours and she needs help. She has a detention for maths work she didn’t do last stroke day because I was working and not around to explain it to her.
