What would you pay for a similar set up for a kid's birthday party?

Hey

Posting on AIBU for traffic.

Was wondering what you would be willing to pay for a birthday set-up like the one in the photos shown.

I'd like to start something on the side alongside my current job to earn a bit of extra cash. I'm intrigued to find out what you'd be willing to pay, please be kind. This wasn't a professional set-up. It was just for my nephew and a few close friends and family have said I should explore this option as money has been tight recently. Is there still a demand for these things?

Can’t see any pics?

user0786 · 07/03/2023 15:55

Oops. It won't let me add the photos! :(

I think you need to be here 30 days before you can add pics?

PeekAtYou · 07/03/2023 15:56

Location is important

Have you seen if anyone else in your area offers the service?

PeekAtYou · 07/03/2023 15:57

Is it balloon arches and stuff?

Ragwort · 07/03/2023 16:00

I don't think I'd pay anything for a children party, but I am confident about organising games, doing the food etc and don't see it as a big deal. We just used to hire the local church hall, lay on a child friendly buffet, have some games and that was it.

Not much, it’s more than I would want. It’s more the entertainment I’d pay for.

Artisticpaint · 07/03/2023 16:03

It looks lovely but there’s no actual food there. I think most parents would like a token cucumber and sandwiches.

potentialmediator · 07/03/2023 16:04

I think it’s the entertainment I’d pay for. Which is often £200+ so wouldn’t be paying extra for anything else, but others might. Looks good

sjmco · 07/03/2023 16:07

Photos are lovely! Very well decorated... I would prob pay around £40/£50 for chocolate fountain with fruit... party bags I would prob pay around £3 a bag depending on what's in them. Drinks around £15... table set up with themed birthday around £50...
I've just spent £250 on 1 arch balloon and 2 free standing Baloons. So maybe look at getting into Baloons.

katsue · 07/03/2023 16:08

It looks lovely but would definitely put my money into entertaining the children rather than feeding them. I'd say a lovely set up is a bit wasted as they are better off with either a lunchbox or a very simple buffet. They just want to guzzle through the food and get back to playing!

You might have a better market with baby showers, gender reveals, 1st birthdays etc.

mindutopia · 07/03/2023 16:11

I think it probably wouldn't be for me in the way you've presented it (well, it wouldn't be for me anyway as I'm cheap and I'd just go to Tesco and buy the same things and dump them on the serving plates from the hall and be done with it!). But it's all sugary sweet stuff. At a birthday, kids have cake and maybe some party rings, otherwise I give them lunch and savoury snacks as they don't need any more sugar. I can see how for someone there would be a market for the design and set up, but with different food options. It wouldn't be for me though because I've long since stopped trying to be fancy for kid's parties.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 07/03/2023 16:11

It looks lovely for a DIY job but unfortunately I wouldn't pay for that professionally. As others have said, I'd do it more for entertainment

Winter2020 · 07/03/2023 16:12

Your pictures look lovely and you are very talented at presenting the food. I wonder if your skills would adapt well to selling treat boxes e.g. afternoon teas, cheesecake treats etc for adults (I suppose you coukd try a treat box for kids/a family one but I think there might be more money in adult indulgence). I think people are willing to put their hand in their pocket for those boxes as a treat for themselves or a present.

I've been binge watching dragons den and the two things I've tried to look up/buy have been the chocolate and the cheesecake!

ChildcareIsBroken · 07/03/2023 16:12

Looks great, love it.
I'd pay if there were also sandwiches or some other food. I'd rather pay for this than balloons. No idea how much though.

user0786 · 07/03/2023 16:58

Thanks for the honesty/constructive feedback.

These are some of the cakes/treats I’ve made. What would you be willing to pay for these?

Wow, your cakes and treats are lovely. I’d pay for those. I wouldn’t pay for the other catering and party bags as I find those east enough to do myself. All our main cash goes on hall hire and an entertainer usually

BHRK · 07/03/2023 17:06

I’d pay £40 for a decent birthday cake (south east)

FourFour · 07/03/2023 17:09

Really great stuff op. You could do quite well on the food part. Agree with others, I would spend more on entertainment and venue.

MaoamAddict · 07/03/2023 17:13

The celebration cake isn't 'good enough' to charge professional fees. But the mini treats/desserts look very good! If you were properly insured/inspected and 5* food hygiene rating, I'd pay £2-2,50 per item as shown.

Wouldn't pay for the party food as it's so easy to do myself

Colgatetoothpaste · 07/03/2023 17:14

It looks very pretty but it's just for parents who want to Instagram it. Kids at parties don't care how food is presented, they just want a sandwich, a packet of pomme bears, a baby bel and cake. Sorry, I'm obviously not your intended market.

I'd be more inclined to market your skills for weddings, people are prepared to pay more for weddings

SnowAndIceLobelia · 07/03/2023 17:18

I think your presentation is lovely but truly have no idea on what I would pay! So no help there but just wanted to say your pics and the ideas are lovely.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/03/2023 17:18

Kids want food and games, they dont care about the instagrammable photos.

Maybe look more for 18th and 21sts possibly engagement parties.

Dora33 · 07/03/2023 17:19

The pictures of cup cakes look lovely but would be too fancy for a kids party for me. Other than rice Krispy cakes, like another poster, I would buy the stuff in tescos .
Football cake looks great.
