the Situation:

you work With vulnerable adults and you get Covid. You take time off. You’re due back in day 6 (as per guidance) but you’re still testing positive. You feel a crappy (usually bad cough/cold) but can probably brass out a day at work.

YABU going in tomorrow. You still have a positive test. You’re putting your work colleagues and the vulnerable adults you work with at risk.

YANBU going to work tomorrow. Guidance says 5 days. Don’t worry about the positive test. Follow the guidance.

If I was still testing positive I wouldn't go in.

Vegrocks · 06/03/2023 11:51

I’d follow the company policy

OP says they work with vulnerable adults.
A lot of places you have to test and/or wear masks depending on your workplace.

AllllTheQuestions · 06/03/2023 11:59

@GemmaSparkles .
Due to my role I am provided with Covid rapid tests and asked to test if we have symptoms. I didn’t go out and buy some for a laugh.

So what’s is your work’s policy and be guided by that

Victoriangirl1900 · 06/03/2023 12:23

When I had covid in July I was pressured to come into work on day 6 even when still positive. (school catering assistant) On the hottest day. When I went to serve the children I nearly fainted.

AllllTheQuestions · 06/03/2023 12:25

We use the government guidance. So I should return.

But the guidance wasn’t based on morals was it. The guidance is based in making money and keeping businesses open.

Which is why I’m asking for people’s opinions. interestingly 74% believe I should stay home.

I’ll do what I want to do at the end of the day. But the purpose of this anonymous forum is to ask opinions.

Covid wasn’t the issue in this scenario.

You weren’t well enough to be at work so you should have called in sick

Vegrocks · 06/03/2023 12:28

Are young people that are “vulnerable” particularly at risk? Do you mean vulnerable in a physical health sense?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/03/2023 12:30

Our policy is 10 days from the positive test. I stopped testing after that so I have no idea if I was still testing positive.

If you don't go in will that cause an issue with your work?

LIZS · 06/03/2023 12:30

Guidance is 10 days for meeting vulnerable people.

Vulnerable in what sense?

I told my supervisor I'm not well enough but they made me feel guilty (cause we was short staffed) so I had to come in. Cause I recently started the job I was worried about getting the sack.

I work with someone who is CEV and have elderly vulnerable relatives. My policy is to try not to make them ill. Work would have expected me in with a cold.

LIZS · 06/03/2023 14:32

@Vegrocks those at higher risk of getting seriously ill - which could include elderly, less mobile, those with underlying health conditions, immunosuppressed etc.

But could also mean learning needs, which doesn’t make you more vulnerable to covid

Vegrocks · 06/03/2023 15:20

in terms of the OP. Not clear

LIZS · 06/03/2023 15:34

Yes that is true, but it could equally be argued that many of those vulnerable due to learning or mh needs are potentially less able to cope with symptoms and self medicate appropriately.

Yes but in that scenario I would return whereas if clinically vulnerable, no I would not

ODFO

Giving vulnerable people covid now us no more acceptable to right thinking people than it ever was.

you might not give a shit about vulnerable people, but many of us do!

@AllllTheQuestions

what's the company policy?

if I had to decide myself I'd do 7 days after the positive test.

positive on a test now, doesn't mean you can still pass it on.

HOWEVER my biggest concern here, is YOU. I know it's difficult to tell work you're not coming in, but YOU need to focus on YOUR health, going in too soon can a) make it drag on longer & b) damage your long term health.

take care of yourself, no other bugger will xx

TheChosenTwo · 06/03/2023 17:14

My work would just allow me to wfh until testing negative but I work hybrid anyway so no biggie.
id go by your company policy, presumably they know people may still be testing positive when they go back as per the policy they wrote and signed off, wear a mask.

Yes but it's not all.about you ,the Op.said her work policy was for them.to.test if they felt ill.and she works with vulnerable people, ,other work policies have no such policies and people are expected to.work regardless
