To not want to be woken by barking dogs every day?

dameofdilemma · 05/03/2023 08:59

Neighbours two houses away take their three dogs out every week day by 6-6.15am and weekends by 7.15am. They’ve had two of them only a few months.
The dogs bark like crazy. It’s an hour before we have to get up for work (and no we don’t particularly want to get up at 7am on a Sunday).

Do I just accept that I have to now start my days earlier? I’m not hopeful they’ll do much about it if I complain (the dogs are young and not trained, jump and bark at passers by, can’t be let off lead etc).

Was out with a friend recently and found myself going home early as basically have a 6am alarm clock now!

No you're not being unreasonable, your neighbours are. You can complain to your local authority as they are making excessive noise too early in the day.

CantStopWontStop0 · 05/03/2023 09:16

YANBU. But this is an animal living forum so don't expect overwhelming support.

Pugdogmom · 05/03/2023 09:18

Absolutely not being unreasonable. I have 3 dogs , and they do bark, but I Absolutely wouldn't allow them to bark this early. They are trained to shoosh. I can tell by their body language that they are about to bark and nip it in the bud before it starts.
Usually wanting to bark at the dog 5 doors down who's owner let's it in the garden at dark o'clock and just leave it there. 🙄

Greenqueen40 · 05/03/2023 09:18

This sounds horiffic, go on the local Facebook neighbourhood watch page anonymously and comment on it, maybe it will shame them into changing their route or doing some dog training!

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/03/2023 09:19

I have two dogs and as soon as they start barking, I get them in.

Really? I don't know of a " reasonable " dog owner that would think this is acceptable 🤔

carriedout · 05/03/2023 09:22

YANBU, but it is difficult to see what can be done as people who own dogs are increasingly unreasonable about their impact on others and councils are grossly underfunded thanks to the Tories.

But YWNBU to make a complaint.

That's nice

Turn your music up really loud each night. Very inconsiderate of your neighbours.

Jossse · 05/03/2023 09:34

Go and speak to them about this. Be kind and friendly.

Emptycrackedcup · 05/03/2023 09:35

YANBU, irresponsible dog owners.

MamOfFive · 05/03/2023 09:35

YANBU my neighbours opposite had a dog that starts barking from 5am every single day in the garden.
In the end I had to go round and explain that their dog was waking everyone up and if they didn't sort it I'd put a complaint into their landlord (this was after being woken up solidly for 6 months at 5am).
Now they let it out at 8am which isn't great on a Sunday but much better.

maddy68 · 05/03/2023 09:35

Yanbu but ...as a dog owner myself. One of mine is really yappy and I can't stop him nomatter what. They are taking them out for a walk before work which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I have no answers as my own drives me mad ...we have tried everything to make him less excited for his walk but nothing works

Nothing more annoying than a poster who attempts to dismiss everyone else's comments before they are even posted.

OP, YANBU at all. Someone near me walks two screaming pugs at about that time in the morning. I tend to be awake so it bothers me less but I always imagine everyone else cursing them in their bedrooms nearby Grin

So passive aggressive.

Just speak to them ffs

WandaWonder · 05/03/2023 09:39

I want to say say something but I am sure I need to say, 'you need to offer to walk the dogs yourself' well not really but would not at all surprise me

Or just knock on their door like an adult.

dameofdilemma · 05/03/2023 09:45

Thanks all. I should add they don’t go out to work - effectively retired though they tried to start a doggy day care business from their home but don’t think it took off as their own dogs were aggressive to incomers.

Really don’t want to knock on their door as the dogs come flying out and jump up (they do try to stop them but as there are three don’t manage it!)

I feel your pain. Next door to us has a dog. They go out at 7.15 every day and the dog barks from leaving the front door all the way down the street. Not so bad in the week as I'm up but a pain at the weekends. The dog is untrained and literally walks him instead of the other way around

Dudum · 05/03/2023 09:49

Next door to us have 3 dogs. She lets one of them out at 1.30am and it barks loudly for a good 15 minutes. Unbelievable

Rubyupbeat · 05/03/2023 09:56

They should be training them. Mine know that one bark and they are in. Even the little terrier we look after has learnt this. For early morning wees, we stand at the door waiting, we also use bribery and corruption, they get a treat when they come in and haven't barked.
Sounds like utter laziness from your neighbours.

bussteward · 05/03/2023 09:59

Squirty water pistol out of the window every morning.

6strings1song · 05/03/2023 09:59

100% YANBU. We had this for over 5 years from one set of neighbours. The poor dogs were never ever walked, well...I saw them being chaotically herded down the road maybe twice if that counts. Poor things used to scrap and fence run out of boredom and were extremely reactive to any outside noise.

They were let out as early as 5am weekdays and about 8am at weekends to run around the garden and bark. This was inside a housing estate with atleast 10 houses directly affected due to the layout of the houses. Also happened multiple times throughout the day up until about 10pm.

We decided to keep quiet, save up and move. Other neighbours did the same and the adjoined neighbour to the dog house changed hands 3 times in quick succession. We had moved unknowingly into the situation as the dogs were hidden inside upon viewings, so the routine had already been well established. The garden was also clean and all poo picked, so no signs of dogs at viewings etc.

If this is a new occurrence, then try and resolve it with the owners now before it becomes embedded. Also be aware any disputes have be declared at the time of sale.

The only thing which improved was that as the dogs aged they became quieter, so by the time we moved it was less horrendous. Sorry OP...not a great story for you to read.

QueenMabs · 05/03/2023 10:02

Why are they barking if they are being taken for a walk?
