To not want to be woken by barking dogs every day?

Neighbours two houses away take their three dogs out every week day by 6-6.15am and weekends by 7.15am. They’ve had two of them only a few months.
The dogs bark like crazy. It’s an hour before we have to get up for work (and no we don’t particularly want to get up at 7am on a Sunday).

Do I just accept that I have to now start my days earlier? I’m not hopeful they’ll do much about it if I complain (the dogs are young and not trained, jump and bark at passers by, can’t be let off lead etc).

Was out with a friend recently and found myself going home early as basically have a 6am alarm clock now!

Surely you train them not to do that?? Not all dogs bark like this. Vert selfish owners. Plus often once you've been woken up it's a bit late

Yeah they should, although some dogs/ breeds are naturally vocal and you can't penalise someone for the odd bark.

My point was about whether it's reasonable to complain so I stand by the point that it depends how much and how long.

I wouldn't want to listen to that racket at any time of day, let alone be woken up by it.

You don't want to train your dog not to bark if they hear something unsettling.

Thought I’d report back……I bumped into the neighbour (with one of the dogs) and took it as a sign I should say something (thanks for encouraging posts as I needed a bit of a push).

Neighbour was v apologetic and said the barking was driving them mad too. Two of the dogs are young, one is particularly barky and sets the others off, but they’re trying to train them and will try to walk them a bit later in the morning.

I felt bad as I can see she’s trying and I did say it was only the early mornings, didn’t expect them to be quiet or kept in all day etc.

That sounds positive.

I feel for you. My dog isn’t very vocal. My next doors little dog never stops barking when left alone. If they have an early shift inevitably it will wake us all up… and it doesn’t stop. I don’t know how it doesn’t loose it’s voice it yaps continuously. I’m hoping as it gets older it will stop but nearly two years now and nothings changed.

Why don't you report it? Sounds like animal cruelty to me?

We had this when our idiot neighbours decided to get a dog during lockdown, except our wake up call was 5am. I told them in no uncertain terms it was unacceptable and if it didn’t stop I would be repeatedly ringing their doorbell at 4am when I go out for my run and see how they like it. I’m up at that time but the rest of my family isn’t.

Wolfiefan · 06/03/2023 09:52

@Emptycrackedcup unfortunately this wouldn’t be classed as cruel by RSPCA. If the dog has shelter and access to water they wouldn’t intervene.

YANBU. But this is an animal living forum so don't expect overwhelming support.

🙄🙄🙄

I’m dog mad and can’t imagine any sane person being okay with this.

We had a problem with a woman walking her dog near us at 6:30am every morning. She’d always stop just near our house and chat to someone whilst her dog would bark constantly. I went out in the end and asked her not to stand near my house if her dog was going to be barking constantly. Never had an issue since.

FastFood · 06/03/2023 12:09

I'd be mortified if my dog barked before 7am, especially in the garden.
My dog is an indoor dog - he goes out for toilet and for two walks a day - but never stays on his own outside, and even indoor barking isn't permitted beyond a certain (low) level.
I'm okay with a quick woof upon hearing a dog in the street, or if he needs my attention, but it has to stop REAL quick. Sustained barking is a pain for everyone.
