A "split level" bungalow isn't a bungalow?

It's priced like a bungalow, I.e. expensive and the pictures show a strange mezzanine dining area, which I assumed was the "split level" element, but all three bedrooms and the only loo are.in the basement. No picture of the stairs either.

Surely that just means you'll get loads of time wasters when they discover it's not at all what they're looking for?

Given that the floorplan and the description makes it clear the accomodation is split over two levels then anyone disappointed on visiting should have paid more attention to the listing.

For me its fine listed as a bungalow as its not one floor sat directly on top of the other. They sort of lead down and off one another.

bellac11 · 04/03/2023 17:34

There are pictures of the stairs and they are on the floor plan

Ive never seen a bungalow with a basement before, although its not really a basement in the true sense, its just that the ground is at different levels so different bits of the property are at different levels

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/03/2023 17:35

The stairs in pic 14 are the ones that lead down to the bedrooms.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 04/03/2023 17:36

I mean, it says "split level" right there in the key features and there are photos of the stairs in photos 3, 10 and 11.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 04/03/2023 17:37

Oh, and picture 14 too.

mathanxiety · 04/03/2023 17:40

It seems to be built on a sloping lot, with the lower level extending the footprint of the house into the rear garden. At least that's what I see in the floorplan and photos...

Looks as if the bedrooms and bathroom all have windows.

Hate the 'low maintenance garden'. I assume that's fake grass. Yuck.

CatOnTheChair · 04/03/2023 17:56

If I'm seeing the pictures properly, it also doesn't have a full flight of stairs.

ODFOx · 04/03/2023 18:00

It's a bungalow built on a slope. 4 steps from dining room down to sitting room, then another 4 to the bathroom/bedrooms.
Looking at the satellite picture of the whole street they are all essentially similar.

dudsville · 04/03/2023 18:15

I saw a bungalow similarly built on a slope, it still mashes more sense to call it a bungalow, but it isn't as wheelchair or walker friendly as the nashe would suggest.

Whiskyinajar · 04/03/2023 18:29

It's round the corner from where I work.

Off topic I know 😁

Viviennemary · 04/03/2023 18:31

If a house has a staircase its not a bungalow.IMHO.

DDivaStar · 04/03/2023 18:33

It not advertised as a bungalow, its advertised as a split level bungalow. The description, photos and floor plan refer to stairs if you read this listing and are then dissapointed on viewing you should pay more attention.

Darthwazette · 04/03/2023 18:33

It’s hideous

OneTC · 04/03/2023 18:34

It's just on a hill isn't it?

Used to live in a house like that, 1 consistent level from the front door but there was 2 downstairs rooms at the back of the house.

pigsDOfly · 04/03/2023 18:44

I'm not sure what else you'd call it other than a split level bungalow; it's not a house that's for sure..

Whatever it is, I agree with Darthwazzet it's hideous.

The rooms, particularly the lower level rooms look tiny and pokey.

I don't know the area at all but it seems horribly over priced to me, and I'm in the South East where house prices tend to be eye watering.

anxiousatnight · 04/03/2023 18:48

I'm not sure how else you could describe it - a single story house over multiple levels doesn't have much of a ring to it and is just confusing.

To me it is a bungalow, and I think the details make it clear that there are different floor levels/steps

ColdHandsHotHead · 04/03/2023 18:50

People who came to view wouldn't be 'time wasters' but the estate agents who listed it as a bungalow are.

Swimminpoo · 04/03/2023 18:52

I've never understood this malarkey, nor do I understand dormer bungalows. DM moved to one for her retirement, thr bedrooms are upstairs, I don't really know how / why it's a bungalow.

OneTC · 04/03/2023 18:58

On wiki almost none of the pictures show a truly 1 level house, most have upstairs.

Interestingly the banglaghar they show is also 2 level.

But then it goes on to describe bungalows as primarily 1 level.

Beatrixy · 04/03/2023 19:02

I’d consider it a bungalow. Most of the bungalows I know of are inhabited by families with kids.

lieselotte · 04/03/2023 19:03

In Devin split level bungalows are very common due to the hills.

lieselotte · 04/03/2023 19:03

In DevOn, even.

lieselotte · 04/03/2023 19:04

(I know Basildon isn't in Devon, just making the point that split level bungalows are a thing)

We had a bungalow with velux window and staircase in it when I was a teen. It was definitely a bungalow.

OhmygodDont · 04/03/2023 19:07

I mean it’s not a house as it doesn’t have an actually upstairs and downstairs so to speak. It’s a split level bungalow. Maybe it’s not disability friendly but that isn’t actually the main purpose of bungalows just a side piece. Some people don’t want 20 steps to climb but four is ok. But much more then a property that have decking in the garden tbh.
