How much do you spend on lunch and coffees etc on work days?

Forgot my soup yesterday and wound up spending a stupid amount of money on my chicken salad and coffee. Twenty four bloody quid. Prices have risen so steeply in the last while.

What is a normal spend for you in a local lunch place?

24!!! I couldn't justify spending that much, where on earth did you go??

I forgot my lunch on Wednesday, so popped to the local supermarket and picked up a meal deal - £3.50. As I was at the supermarket I also bought Taylor's coffee bags, as the coffee is disgusting from the office, and also 3 packets of LU biscuits to share in the office, so spent in total about £11.

fourikeachairs · 03/03/2023 17:33

Work canteens sound like great value!

£3/£4 for a meal deal from Tesco or Boots, maybe £6-£8 if I go to Costa/Nero. When we were in the office full time I made my own lunch every day but I don’t any more since it’s so as hoc!

Then £3.60 for my bus.

NextToTheRadio · 03/03/2023 17:35

£0

All food is free and we have a cook 🍳

tinytemper66 · 03/03/2023 17:36

Take my own food, milk and teabags.

Okunevo · 03/03/2023 17:36

Definitely not a fancy place but not a greasy spoon either
Mains are about £16 where I last went out for dinner, current prices I just looked up and it meets this description. So £20 with a drink for a hot, dinner sized main.

WhatAmIDoingWrong123 · 03/03/2023 17:37

I keep instant coffee in my locker and buy a pint of milk a week that does me for my couple of office days a week. I always take lunch with me, but if I ever did need to buy it, it probably wouldn’t cost more than £5-£8.

Lambchop1 · 03/03/2023 17:37

£7 - that’s for giant blt sandwiche and coffee

RaininSummer · 03/03/2023 17:37

Nothing at all as always take lunch and definitely wouldn't buy coffee. If I forget lunch I buy a 3.50 meal deal. 24 pounds on lunch is insane.

jay55 · 03/03/2023 17:39

On days I go in I spend around a tenner, unless I get a potato from work canteen which is under £3.
Plus I have a pret subscription for tea/coffee.

Cupcakequeen75 · 03/03/2023 17:39

Not one single penny.
Take lunch and keep tea, coffee, soups, squash etc in my desk drawer.

Salad was really generous size, with a whole avocado, but still!

Sounds like a a mumsnet salad that should last you a months worth off lunches so pretty good value if you look at like that 😂

BashfulClam · 03/03/2023 17:48

I tend to take mine in and we have free hot drinks. If I do buy it it’s about £5.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/03/2023 17:50

We have a £2 meal deal at work. And I take a packed lunch for either much or dinner. 12 hour shifts. Bought a coffee machine, so make my own latte. Which has saved me a fortune.

CeeJay81 · 03/03/2023 17:51

Usually £2 to 2.50 a day. We can help ourselves to tea and coffee. Work in a supermarket, so often grab something from the reduced section. I'll treat myself to a meal deal once a week (£2.60ish with discount). £24 would last me about 2 weeks!

BrendaDraper · 03/03/2023 17:52

Good lord.....government office...today I spent 1.60 on soup and a bread roll

Ha, afraid I ate the whole thing so no leftovers to make it better value!

Coffee is a £1 at work.
Food, it depends what it is, but staff get a third off so probably about £2-4 for food?

mathanxiety · 03/03/2023 17:53

Zero, zip, zilch.

I'd go hungry before I spent money on lunch.

LubaLuca · 03/03/2023 17:54

Usually take a packed lunch, but if I forget it I go to Greggs, so a couple of quid at most. I don't buy drinks or snacks during the work day - we have free vending machines, coffee machines and fruit delivered a couple of times a week.

I'd cry if I accidentally bought a £20 salad.

OldTinHat · 03/03/2023 17:54

Bloody hellfire!! I went out to a pub this week and had a starter and a main for less than that!

bonjello · 03/03/2023 17:55

Under £10 on a fancy day under £5 standard

CeriB82 · 03/03/2023 17:55

nothi. Can’t afford it.

i make my own lunch and we have tea/coffee on a table in the room. We take turns buying them

That's quite unusual! Why wouldn't you buy yourself some sustenance during the day?

Badbudgeter · 03/03/2023 17:58

I get free soup and coffee at work so nothing. I had lunch in a nice cafe and it was £14 for a fancy sandwich and a coffee.
