If you had to undress in front of someone in an emergency would you be ready?

Another one inspired by the emergency thread as this still mortifies me nowGrin last year I was taken to hospital unexpectedly after a car crash. I had to be topless for the ecg, and then someone helped me into a gown after. When I fake tan I usually only do my arms, legs up to the bottom of my bum cheeks, chest to nipple line and neck as that's the only bits that ever show so why would I waste time faffing doing the rest. Her face when she saw my weird tan lines was a real treat. I hadn't shaved my armpits or legs for about 4 weeks (it was winter alright) and I was also wearing the biggest, most unflattering pants you've ever seen as I'd been at the gym

Now I wonder if I should be more prepared for if something like that were to ever happen again. Although I'm sure they've seen it all and much worse before anywayGrin so if something similar happened to you would you be embarrassed or are you always perfectly presented?

I have a friend who HAS to wear matching underwear sets, in case she's in a horrendous accident and her body gets torn apart and they need to know which parts are hers and the only way they can do this is to match her underwear wear together, I think this takes being prepared to a whole different level 😂

That is funny - as is the idea of having a bikini wax before parents ' evening 😂

Must now find my big comfy pants to go to the gym and get on with my terribly difficult Wednesday. 😂

JessicaBrassica · 01/03/2023 11:57

Possibly you should solve the problem of fake tan lines by trying to look like a human being rather than an oompa-loompa and stop faking the tan.

Go outside, do exercise, see the sun.

Woah! Harsh!

they wouldn't care and would have seen things a million times worse than bad fake tan. I don't wear knickers and they'd be met with a massive 70s style bush but in such a situation where that was necessary I would not care and neither would they.

Bamboux · 01/03/2023 11:59

Roggers · 01/03/2023 11:54

This thread wasn't meant to insult, offend or lecture anybody. I know they didn't care what I looked like and have seen it all before. I also didn't really care, as in I didn't think no way are they taking me to hospital in case anybody sees me. The nurse moved my boob, I caught sight of my tan line and commented on it to try and give myself something to laugh about whilst I was in hospital on my own at night after nearly being killed. She laughed with me. I know she didn't actually care about it. Maybe that makes me an awful person for even noticing it at the time, but if it does so be it, I can't change that now

And at no point have I said anybody has to wear fake tan, shave or do anything else if they don't want to. I do it because I want to

This is bollocks.

And you said yourself it was inspired by the thread about being ready for an actual emergency e.g. fire.

You're saying now it's just about your personal preference, but the entire premise of your thread is to tell other women that they should be embarrassed if they are not 'perfectly presented'.

Those are literally the only two options you gave.

You can try to pretend it was something different now you've had a lot of negative reactions, but your op is crystal clear.

Adrelaxzz · 01/03/2023 12:01

I've given birth 3 times, everytime I think oh I can't be arsed to shave my armpits who will see them anyway. Every. fucking. Time I end up completely naked. I never remember doing it be sometime during transition I must hate clothes and take them all off 😂

Who cares if this person thinks we should be embarrassed? That's as much of a non issue as being seen in a state of disarray during an emergency.

TheGoogleMum · 01/03/2023 12:02

They were probably just mildly surprised by the tan lines - it must have looked natural before the reveal! So a weird compliment? I usually to know someone who always wore matching bra and pants in case of this scenario but I think it's ridiculous health care professionals really don't care (I know because I am one!)

Roggers · 01/03/2023 12:02

I didn't say anyone should be embarrassed. I asked if anyone would be. Clearly I'm the worst person ever for being a bit embarrassed about how I looked but there we go. It is what it is

I work as health care professional almost no one , even in wag filled cheshire shaves their legs in the winter unless going out out

Doesn't make you a bad person but you must be a bit exhausted thinking about such things. Be confident and proud of who you are. If you've only tanned your arms, that was your decision and there's just no reason to be ashamed about it. Live life and stop worrying about insignificant things.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/03/2023 11:13

This is true, I think if you have personal experience of it you're actually the one to give a fuck, it's so easy to think "fuck that, I won't comply patriarchal standards of beauty etc" Wink until you yourself are wheeled into A and E wearing mismatched PJs and one sock Grin

Also, being in hospital is depressing as fuck, I always have nice PJs and "treaty" shower gel etc in my hospital bag as it's the little things that cheer you up.

Why do you have a "hospital bag"?

I've certainly been to A&E and not cared what I was wearing. Never even thought about it, short of maybe being sure a sleeve can be rolled up for a blood pressure check.

I suppose it helps if, like me, you look pretty shit all the time. Unshaved, un tanned, wearing sloppy clothes (none of my PJs match, I buy random bottoms and wear long sleeve t shirts on top, I don't like button up tops in bed) etc. Then it simply doesn't cross my mind what I look like at a medical appointment.

I always wear clean kecks though - and they are all the same, none are worse or better. And my hair is dyed, but not in case I go to A&E.

I couldn't give the slightest toss about some random stranger's opinion, but that's because I'm in my 40s and I've been around long enough to rise above it.

If I see someone telling women in a public forum that they should feel embarrassed and ashamed of their failure to live up to ridiculous beauty standards, even in a life and death situation, and perpetuating the lie that HCPs give a shit about this stuff, then I'm going to publicly challenge it.

I don't want my daughter, or anyone's daughter, growing up internalising this bullshit.

User57632678 · 01/03/2023 12:07

Not sure why all the aggressive responses to a lighthearted thread. I’m sure OP knows that in a life or death emergency it doesn’t matter what they look like.

I often joke that the only reason I get regular pedicures is because if I were to randomly break my ankle I’d want my feet to be in reasonable condition when I go to hospital 😄I also saw an episode of 24 hours in a&e the other day where camera zoomed all the way into a poor womans bare feet and my mum said “blimey, I bet she’s glad her toes looked nice at least before they ended up on channel 4!”

I also had to go to hospital a few years ago unexpectedly about 10 days after I’d applied fake tan, the tan had all washed off with the exception of inside my belly button which I hadn’t realised and when the nurse had a feel of my stomach I definitely saw her do a double take. She said nothing obviously but I wondered afterwards if she thought it was dirt and felt a bit embarrassed 😂

queenofthewild · 01/03/2023 12:08

I ended up in the back of an ambulance dressed as Pikachu a couple of years ago. I wasn't ready for medics to see me dressed, let alone undressed.

lostinfusion · 01/03/2023 12:09

Crikey Bamboux do often get in rows about absolutely nothing?

I read the OP's post & thought it was quite funny, it must be hard work getting so worked up about everything

You didn't say

Would you be embarrassed or do you not care about these things because it doesn't remotely matter?

You said

Would you be embarrassed or are you always perfectly presented?

Because of course it's one or the other.

Later on in the thread, you agreed with the person who claimed they'd heard HCPs making nasty comments about people's appearances, implying that the actual HCPs on here are lying when they say no one cares.

You're actively pushing the idea that HCPs do judge women on trivial aspects of our appearance. Because you clearly believe it.

This is toxic, misogynist bullshit and deserves to be called out as such.

Choconut · 01/03/2023 12:11

I'd be mortified right now! My legs look like a blokes, I could plait my armpit hair and my pubes stick out the top and sides of my knickers. I don't really consider myself shallow and narcissistic though to be mortified by that - because if I was shallow and narcissistic then I almost certainly wouldn't have all that body hair in the first place!

Always M and S black bikini briefs though 😁

That's reminded me of the time I ended up in A&E dressed as Nancy Sinatra, complete with long blonde wig and boots that were made for walking. 😁

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 01/03/2023 12:12

I wouldn't wear fake tan or shave even for a planned disrobing - why on earth should anyone feel they are obliged to do those things? Do them if you want, of course, nothing wrong with doing those things, but you do not owe the universe a tanned and shaven body.

weirdoboelady · 01/03/2023 12:13

Not shaving my legs for the winter is part of my austerity measures - while I am trying to keep warm with the heating turned down as low as plausible, why would I want to remove a source of insulation when I am wearing thick tights or trousers anyway? 😂

@Bamboux fair enough. I also didn't agree with the poster who said they'd heard HCP's bitching, as I've never ever experienced that. It was another poster who agreed, so maybe you would like to call them out on that. And I've said many times that I know they didn't care what I looked like. It was me that did.

My grandma used to say ‘Make sure you have clean pants on in case you get run over by a bus.’
She also used to say ‘You will never have curly hair if you don’t eat your crusts.’
I loved her to bits but neither of those quotes made much sense to me.

Butchyrestingface · 01/03/2023 12:16

Her face when she saw my weird tan lines was a real treat.

Unless you looked liked Ross Geller after the spray tan episode of Friends, I find this hard to believe.
