Sorry posting on here for the voting option.

A couple of weeks ago I saw my dream job on indeed.
I literally cannot think of a more perfect job for me and I genuinely believe that I would be very good at it and could bring a lot to the role.

Unfortunately, the deadline had ended a couple of days before but it was still on Indeed and so I sent an email and cover letter anyway, as it is a job that wouldn’t come up very often and so I had to just try it.

I emailed on 13th February but I’ve still not heard anything back, even to say I’m unsuccessful.

It is a charity and so they may not have the time to reply to every single person but I have been asked to take on a more senior role at my current work and I don’t want to accept it if I am in with a chance with this job.

So, do I email them again and ask if I am unsuccessful or does that come across as rude?
Or I should just wait and see or accept that I was late applying and therefore not in with a chance?

YABU - do not email them again.
YANBU - do email them again.

Thank you.

You could maybe ask if you are being considered due to missing the deadline, I dont think that would come across as pushy or unprofessional but I wouldn't ask whether you have been successful in terms of moving to the next stage

MasterBeth · 28/02/2023 19:11

What’s the worst that could happen?

MRex · 28/02/2023 19:12

They'll probably say no, but that's fine, just ask.

SunshineAndFizz · 28/02/2023 19:14

Got nothing to lose, go for it!

For the perfect job, you should definitely chase it.

BrimFullOfAsher · 28/02/2023 19:14

Maybe have a look on LinkedIn, too? The role may also be on there, or if not, there may be a specific point of contact.

PacificallyRequested · 28/02/2023 19:15

If you didn't submit the application on time, they won't even have looked at it, it would be really unfair if they did. So no, don't bother contacting them again.

N27 · 28/02/2023 19:27

if you can find a contact number I would pick up the phone and give them a quick call, bu super nice and not pushy and just say you wanted to check if your application was being considered as you know you didn’t see it before the deadline but you are really hopeful of being considered and don’t want to turn down other opportunities while uoi wait.

I used to work in hr and recruitment can be a nightmare, a quick call from a candidate could give me the nudge I needed to pull their application from my to-do list and take a look :)

Findyourneutralspace · 28/02/2023 19:30

I’d give them a call, ask if they received your application and will they consider it, and generally wow them with your enthusiasm and ability!

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 28/02/2023 19:30

I'm not sure how Indeed works but it might be that the company weren't given access to your application because you had missed the deadline. I wouldn't waste your time contacting them.

tulippa · 28/02/2023 19:38

It shows you want the job. I have considered a late applicant when other applications haven't been very strong. No harm in polite not pushy email.

Mangledrake · 28/02/2023 19:41

Phone! Don't make them put anything irregular in writing ...

DreamjobOP · 28/02/2023 19:48

It’s still open for applications on Indeed so you can ‘click to apply’ and it has your CV saved on it but in the job description it said the deadline which is why I emailed them and didn’t do it through indeed.

Phoning them seems very daunting!
But if this is something that others do then it’s worth a shot.

Looking on LinkedIn for the contact number is a good idea.

Well done on the promotion. it May have gone through a recruitment agent (indeed should tell you). See you if you can find out and ask them first. They may have already provided their shortlist for the job and you missed out due to being beyond the deadline. But if it’s the job you want then no harm in reaching out directly. In the meantime, take the promotion at work (it will only strengthen your cv anyway). If you end up getting an offer then you will have a decision to make, but it’s a nice problem to have. Good luck

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 28/02/2023 19:56

Was there a contact name on the advert? Ideally, not HR, but the recruiting manager. Where I worked, the recruiting manager always had discretion over accepting late applications. If they have got 150 applications already they will probably say no (unless you can convince them over the phone that you are exactly what they need!), but if they only got a handful of applications, they may well be prepared to consider yours as well.
Go for it.

VladmirsPoutine · 28/02/2023 20:08

If you've also checked the vacancy page on the charity's website and it isn't listed then I'd say that ship has sailed.

If it seems like it would be your perfect gig then there's no harm in a quick call.

DreamjobOP · 28/02/2023 20:13

The advert was quite basic and didn’t have a name just the name of the charity.

I looked on the vacancies on the website but it wasn’t there and there were only volunteer positions.

It was only advertised less than 2 weeks before the deadline so I was hoping that they’d not have many applicants and then they wouldn’t mind that I was a couple of days late but I guess they need a cut off line.
It’s also not great money so I was hoping that would put people off too 😄

I will contact them as like you guys say o don’t have anything to lose and in the meantime accept the new position at work if I don’t hear back.

I dont know if this has been said already (im rushing!) but charities are mainly application forms. Quite often charities or anything Third Sector will advertise on Indeed but include a link or say "please check our website for the application form" which are usually removed on deadline day.

Healthwatch are awful for this as they even do "Easy Apply" on Indeed! Idiots.

It was my job to add jobs and remove the jobs from the website and social media

saltinesandcoffeecups · 28/02/2023 20:27

I think you should proceed like this opportunity is not going to happen and be pleasantly surprised if you hear back from them.

If they had a deadline then at best they’re saving any late applications in case the first batch don’t work out. If they’re not and things don’t work out they’ll repost and you’ll have another chance to apply. Do not contact the hiring manager even if you can find out who it is.

I know it’s not the answer you want.

TinySaltLick · 28/02/2023 20:32

I would double email and phone them tomorrow, literally no downside beyond investing some time.

Even if it is filled - register your interest for future vacancies and build a relationship with someone in their hr / recruitment team (if they have one)

If you are the perfect candidate - they will want to know! Ignore others saying about deadline passing, this is probably not a public sector or heavily regulated market - so they can of course flex the rules if they want

Completely disagree. Absolutely contact the hiring manager immediately with a polite and curious note

I really appreciate everyone’s advice and opinions.

As a hiring manager doing so would get you tossed out of consideration. It would tell me that you can’t follow simple directions to apply, would likely expect special treatment if hired, and would come across as pushy and unrealistic.

But hey what do I know …

@DreamjobOP please don’t follow any advice until you’ve independently researched current hiring practices yourself. And I’ll include mine in that warning. There is some shockingly bad advice floating around out there.

Stichintime · 28/02/2023 21:46

Indeed have many out of date jobs, some by months! Any job hunter should know the first thing to look at is the closing date. If its passed there's little point applying. First it shows you can't keep to deadlines, secondly you can't comprehend basic info.
