As the title says.
I have a sore throat...I'm not a wuss when it comes to things like this, I have been taking 15/500 co codamol, ibuprofen and antiseptic numbing lozenges and I'm still in agony.
I can't sleep it hurts so much, I haven't felt pain like this since I had abscess on my tonsils (which have since been removed.)

Everything online says it will pass.
I don't think I can go on like this, I'm bf a 6 month old and have a 3 year old who will be awake in a few hours (DH is here and is great he'll help but no doubt it'll be me he wants to jump on!!)

Not unreasonable- though as a BFing mum read up on suitable antibiotics as they might refuse to prescribe any (the Breastfeeding Network have a good list to go armed with).
Can you swallow? If you are having difficulty swallowing your own saliva, don’t wait til the morning…

TyneTeas · 26/02/2023 03:16

Maybe call 111 first to make sure you are accessing the most appropriate place to help you.

Hope you feel better soon

ToLongToCharge · 26/02/2023 03:17

Can you look inside your throat and see anything?

Could it be Quincy?

Hottytotty · 26/02/2023 03:18

Sounds horrid - though I don’t think they would refuse to prescribe an antibiotics to a breast feeding mum. I had some for mastitis which I had precisely because I was breast feeding! Fingers crossed you can see someone in the morning. Why do these things always happen at the weekend?

bigboymamaz · 26/02/2023 03:18

I can swallow but it is so painful when I do get any sleep (I've had maybe an hour broken) I am drooling.
When I had a Quinsy I couldn't swallow my spit or talk or open my mouth to be examined, I ended up admitted and on v strong pain killers.
The UCC doesn't open until 8 Confused

Do a Covid test. This is how mine started. Absolutely agony

bigboymamaz · 26/02/2023 03:24

I can't open my mouth wide enough to look it's too painful.
I have done 111 online- they said someone will call in 24 hours....if they don't before 8 I will go and be seen at the walk in...I genuinely didn't know this could happen after having tonsils removed! It was almost 20 years ago and I haven't had an issue since.
That's what PND and insomnia brings I guess 🙁

I would go to 111 online. It's v good, I used it when I was ill recently. You fill in the questionnaire and a nurse phones you back within 45 minutes for a phone consultation and to decide on plan. I was told to go to the local Urgent Treatment Centre at 8am. I don't think it's advised that you just turn up without an appointment via 111 first. I was v impressed with the care once I got there. I was there for 8 hours (not waiting to be seen just all together as needed scans and blood tests etc) so take a book/ newspaper) and DH will have to see to kids today. Hope you feel better soon, OP.

Yerroblemom1923 · 26/02/2023 03:28

Sorry, crossed posts! Just read you've already done 111 and hopefully someone will call you back soon.

@SNWannabe prescribers know which antibiotics women who are breastfeeding can safely take

JimnJoyce · 26/02/2023 03:46

Not always, and many refuse to prescribe any at all when there are BF friendly options.

bigboymamaz · 26/02/2023 03:49

-ve cv test.
I also have ear ache, my neck is swollen on my left side too.

TokyoSushi · 26/02/2023 03:51

I had this on Thursday, it's progressed into a horrendous cough and my voice has gone completely like never before in my 43 years. 3x negative Covid tests. Hideous.

iwannascream · 26/02/2023 03:51

Is your neck swollen up to your jaw ? Have you checked the symptoms for mumps ?

Forgooodnesssakenow · 26/02/2023 03:52

We have a set of tonsils in our tongue called lingual tonsils, I get lingual tonsillitis occasionally and it's hellishly painful. You definitely need to get checked out, when you go ask for a throat spray suitable for breatsfeeding, the one they gave me saved my sanity. Properly sore throats are hellish. With all the strep flying about you may need throat swab and antibiotics. Good luck, breastfeeding while ill is miserable

Highflow · 26/02/2023 05:22

You need to go to Urgent Care as soon as it opens. This is exactly what it is meant for… especially being a weekend and no GP services. I’ve been to mine a couple of times and have never ‘booked’ via 111 as some people have. Always been seen quite quickly, and especially if you can get there when it opens.
Hope you get some relief soon x

Teder · 26/02/2023 05:28

Yes, 100% do go. Is the urgent care on the same site as A&E because they may send you there so it might be worth saving time?
My suggestion would be to phone NHS 111 now to be honest, it sounds awful, like it can’t wait!
Hope you start to feel better soon.

BertaHoon · 26/02/2023 05:31

It sounds like you have another Quinsy on the way.

I was fobbed off years ago over the phone - oh we don't give antibiotics for tonsillitis anymore... All I could do was syringe Calpol in adult doses and stay in bed. My 13 year old son was pretty much looking after his 2 year old sister.

I thought enough is enough. I drove to GP and cried that someone needed to see me.

Was given antibiotics and codeine. Told if any worse go straight to A&E. I'd never heard of a Quinsy before, but she said it was developing. I too was drooling.

YANBU - go asap. Get well soon!

chartreuseabuse · 26/02/2023 05:56

FYI You shouldn't be taking co codamol if you're breastfeeding. Loads of good advice above. I hope you feel better soon!

bigboymamaz · 26/02/2023 06:10

Thanks all, I've managed a few hours of cat napping and drooling and taken my last paracetamol I can have until lunch!!!!

I'm going to phone the 111 when little legs wake up as they haven't phoned me back, I'm going to turn up to be seen at 8 if I don't get anywhere.

It's a different town to the A&E dept but I'm hoping it won't come to that!!

Thanks!
I'm alternating it with paracetamol. It was prescribed when he was newborn so we're all good....I'm in too much pain to not take the risk of tiny amounts being passed through.

I've got an appointment for 9.15...hopefully it's something easy to treat.
