As the title says.
I have a sore throat...I'm not a wuss when it comes to things like this, I have been taking 15/500 co codamol, ibuprofen and antiseptic numbing lozenges and I'm still in agony.
I can't sleep it hurts so much, I haven't felt pain like this since I had abscess on my tonsils (which have since been removed.)

Everything online says it will pass.
I don't think I can go on like this, I'm bf a 6 month old and have a 3 year old who will be awake in a few hours (DH is here and is great he'll help but no doubt it'll be me he wants to jump on!!)

Go as soon as you can, this was me last week and I managed to get a Drs app on the Monday. Turns out I had a throat infection , raging temp and needed antibiotics. I still don't feel well but the throat part of things has subsided. Get well soon

Threee · 26/02/2023 06:56

Good luck, what a relief you’re seeing someone. Sounds more serious then a sore throat.

BananaCocktails · 26/02/2023 06:57

Sounds like a virus if you have earache too
this happened to me it’s agony !!
I don’t think there is much they can do , they wouldn’t prescribe antibiotics unless you have an infection.
Make an appointment with your GP after they see you today for a follow up you may have an ear infection too

Shadesofscarlett · 26/02/2023 07:07

I had these exact symptoms and the GP gave antibiotics. Have never felt so ill before and have lost nearly a stone in weight. Hope you get some tablets and start to feel better soon.

MaverickSnoopy · 26/02/2023 07:10

How swollen is your neck? You've described me when I had mumps....

I've got an appointment for 9.15...hopefully it's something easy to treat.
Thanks all for your replies xxx

Does sound like strep throat. The pain with that is another level.

ShimmeringShirts · 26/02/2023 07:51

Me and DD had laryngitis last month, it was the most painful sore throat I’ve ever experienced. Could barely swallow even to drink, had to melt ice cubes in my mouth and even then that was still pretty painful. The doctor and pharmacy could do nothing but advise it’d get better within a couple of weeks - and it did but it was miserable in the mean time but not a case for urgent care. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Calmdown14 · 26/02/2023 08:14

Do you mean that you are alternating cocodamol with paracetamol ( or did you mean to type ibruprofen)?

Cocodamol contains paracetamol and you will be overdosing.

Hoping this is a sleep deprived typo but otherwise tell them at urgent care.

Irisheyesareshining · 26/02/2023 08:18

Wonder if it’s Strep throat , hope you are feeling better soon .

Katsucurrysauce · 26/02/2023 08:19

More likely to be swollen lymph nodes then mumps

Here are the criteria for prescribing antibiotics.

bigboymamaz · 26/02/2023 06:11

Thanks!
I'm alternating it with paracetamol. It was prescribed when he was newborn so we're all good....I'm in too much pain to not take the risk of tiny amounts being passed through.

Is it dihydrocodeine instead? That you can take. Cocodamol though we metabolise to morphine and they get huge morphine doses not tiny amount if breastfeeding, it can cause respiratory arrest in a baby. You definitely cannot take cocodamol breastfeeding.

YukoandHiro · 26/02/2023 08:40

You were probably prescribed dihydrocodeine not co-cocodomol. Don't take anymore of the latter while BF without sign off from a doctor as it can be dangerous for bf babies.

Glad you have an appt

bigboymamaz · 26/02/2023 09:45

Thanks all.
I have a number of puss filled pockets.
Sent away with antibiotics and numbing spray

Update us when you feel better, OP, soon I hope. x

bigboymamaz · 01/03/2023 12:05

I've been on antibiotics since Sunday and feel loads better!
Hardly any throat pain.
I did however change my toddlers stinky bum this morning and couldn't smell it....I've got bloody covid!
No idea if it's related or a symptom but other than the throat I feel fine!
