Just that really, I have heard from friends that it's beautiful and stunning place to visit and is takes your breath away with the scenery.

I've looked into going but self-catering accommodation looked expensive and there didn't seem much available. Looks a lovely place though.

Runforthehills82 · 25/02/2023 20:34

I lived in Jersey for a few months a couple of years ago. It’s lovely. The beaches, water and countryside are gorgeous and the people are very friendly. There are lots of good places to eat and drink. As a family we have very fond memories of it and plan to go back soon.

and if it isn't beach weather there's not loads to do

apart from

Elizabeth Castle, Mont Orguil, Maritime Museum, Hamptonne, Houge Bie, Corbiere Lighthouse, Ten pin bowling, Cinema, the indoor flume place, the zoo, St Helier & market, ...

As long as it doesn't actually rain for 5/7 days there is plenty when it isn't warm enough for the beach.

And the Jersey War Tunnels !

Great place to visit but not sure why people think its pricey / expensive.

GirlOfTudor · 25/02/2023 21:31

I'd love to one day! Flights are expensive from my local airports though and I could go to Greece, Spain, Portugal, etc for less money so it's always put me off.

NellietheElephantpackedhertrunks · 25/02/2023 21:36

Yes, but it’s a lot more built up these days (especially in town). As PPs have said, plenty to do here but your pound could buy you far warmer/more exotic holidays.

RoseMartha · 25/02/2023 21:47

Yes i would

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 25/02/2023 21:53

It’s lovely and I would very much like to go again. You need to hire a car really, some of the roads are very narrow and I was worried I’d lose my wing mirrors! We went one July and it was very hot. I got horribly sunburned.

caringcarer · 25/02/2023 22:14

It's lovely. My sister lives there. It's a cheapish holiday if it's sunny. If it rains a lot, and it can it will be very expensive entertaining children everyday. Fort Regent and Zoo are good days out but not cheap.

Bionesque · 25/02/2023 22:24

Used to live in Jersey (for nine years - so I know of what I write). I love visiting in summer. It's expensive, yes, but there is so much to do, whether you want Cornwall-type cliff walks, or French-style architecture, or the restaurants of St, Helier or one of the bays, or the various tourist attractions. It is fabulous!

shinynewapple22 · 25/02/2023 23:00

I hadn't considered it, but if I was going to go to Jersey then, yes, I would go on the summer.

Coffeeisnecessary · 25/02/2023 23:03

I'm a big fan of Guernsey, haven't tried Jersey though. Guernsey is beautiful and St Peter Port is a stunning town. Sark and herm are like another world, no cars etc. Great flights from Gatwick too!

StoneofDestiny · 25/02/2023 23:14

Been there when our children were teens - lots to do.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/02/2023 23:19

No- met a couple from there in Majorca, early 60s, avid Brexiters, seemed very keen on fleecing holidaymakers- everything was about money- they were originally Mancunians and totally put me off to be honest

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 25/02/2023 23:26

We've been a couple of times & really enjoyed it. We had one year with fab weather & one year with hit & miss weather.
We stayed in a very family friendly hotel in St Helier but if I was going as an adult without the kids I would go and stay in St Brelade's.

Quitelikeacatslife · 25/02/2023 23:41

Gorgeous but self catering is hard to come by and is expensive to eat out. If have car the beaches are stunning . I love it

wejammin · 26/02/2023 00:15

Ok, so I will retract my previous comment about there not being loads to do. I've just looked back at my photos.

If I give it some context, I have 3 children, one of whom is autistic and whilst I would love to explore castles and we did do the war tunnels and the zoo and hamptonne (which I thought was fabulous), for my particular children there was not, for example, a science museum or Lazer tag, and on a rainy day that's the kind of thing they enjoy. My son had a meltdown in the war tunnels. The splash park was brilliant and we went to an adventure farm place that was also great, but these were weather dependent.

Anyway, I would highly recommend!

AnyFucker · 25/02/2023 19:18

Yes, but it is very expensive

This

TeenDivided · 26/02/2023 06:54

We have an animal mad DD so we actually have membership for the Zoo, despite living on the mainland, and in the past have visited the zoo every 2-3 days whilst on the island.
We also have done Jersey Heritage membership in the past.

Agree the War Tunnels are very interesting and well worth a visit.

A day trip to St Malo is fun.

Jersey Seafaris are ace and our new 'thing to do' on alternate visits, you do need to book in advance of knowing the weather however. (££)

Eating out is definitely more expensive than 15 years ago, more 'restaurants' and fewer 'cafes', which has meant we actually do self cater more these days in the evening, rather than self catering but eating out. I think Jersey used to market itself as a family holiday, whereas now it seems to market more as a 'short breaks for couples' and the catering has changed in line: fancier and more expensive.

Mummadeze · 26/02/2023 07:00

I recommend the Merton Hotel, the pool is great for children and it is reasonable for what you get. Jersey is lovely, great beaches, nice restaurants and the flight is so short.

wizzler · 26/02/2023 08:03

Love it and have just booked for July. Dd and I will spend the mornings pootling about the island on the Liberty bus and ( weather permitting) will be by the pool eatery afternoon

DilemmaDelilah · 26/02/2023 08:03

Not planning on going anywhere this year... but when we do eventually manage to get away it is where we are planning on going. We can't go on any more 'hot' holidays or fly due to DH health condition, the weather is usually a bit warmer than here, we can go by ferry and drive and it is just a little bit more 'foreign' than good old Blighty!

soberfabulous · 26/02/2023 08:15

I'm from Jersey!

It's absolutely beautiful and especially so in the Summer.

You can't guarantee the weather, but it is generally a few degrees warmer all year round and tends to get the best of the weather in the Summer.

You will absolutely love it I'm sure.

rookiemere · 26/02/2023 08:16

We are going to Jersey this summer .
Flights were really cheap when we booked. We're staying 2 nights in a posh spa hotel, then off to France for a few nights ( we live in Edinburgh so St Malo is hard to reach otherwise) then I've booked a lovely looking inexpensive Airbnb right in front of St Brelade beach for the last 5 nights.

DS 17 is off to south africa with rugby for school and we don't like it to be really hot, so we thought this would be perfect. Really looking forward to it.

TeenDivided · 26/02/2023 08:17

We're looking forward to the Tortoise Takeover this year.

We saw all but one of the Gorillas. The missing one we tried to find on the last day but it was inside an area being set up for a festival, so we couldn't get to it.

MidgeHardcastle · 26/02/2023 08:36

Been several times over the decades. Last year stayed at Rozel campsite and the one at St. Ouens and caught the bus everywhere. Found everyone pleasant, plenty of pubs and eateries etc. As we are retired now we are not looking for family activities but the Moon Walks looked fab. We went in the spring and it was warm enough to sit on the beach.
