To be worried about how many bugs I’m getting lately

I seem to have had non stop sore throats, coughs and colds since October and seems to be getting them one after another.. is it just me? I used to barely get sick at all..

OP posts:

Yes I did this in Jan when I got my previous chest infection and realised I had lost weight. Luckily my doctor took it seriously and organised really thorough tests etc and I am fine! I since put all the weight back on. He thinks it was due to being poorly for so long.

Am also taking all the vitamins etc, eat well and have done for the last year or so. It is all very strange and tiring. (Definitely need to exercise more though!)

earsup · 26/02/2023 16:27

Same here and friends, not met up since last year as someone in the group of 4 was ill....its constant, we are using the Zoflora spray on door handles and surfaces etc Now have the sinus issue again, had it in November and a mini flu over xmas. it is now depressing and seems never ending.

cosmicfig · 26/02/2023 16:27

Was meant to reply to @swiggles with last post

This has been by far the worst winter ever for our family. Usually our kids are resilient and avoid most things, but it's been almost relentless since November.
I had a cough that lasted 6 weeks! Never had that before.

I'm hearing this a lot.

I am (mildly) worried too and have been ill since October. First with flu for 6 weeks then awful gastro illness. Was fine over Christmas then chest infection Jan and now in bed with a much worse chest infection again and tracheotomy! However the lovely emergency doc I saw yesterday said that my previous chest infection was probably not quite dealt with.

I normally only get mild colds and have the usual sniffle and feel a bit ropey for a few days and can carry on as normal.

I feel very rundown by it all.

I am only mildly concerned though because it is the first winter with no masks etc so am hoping that is the only reason. Plus I was very worried in Jan when I got the previous chest infection, so I got extensive testing done and I am on paper - very healthy 🤔

Cannot wait for spring and hope we all feel better soon!

Not tracheotomy! Tracheitis 🤦🏼‍♀️I am taking a lot of meds and new to posting lol

Badger1970 · 26/02/2023 16:36

I had my Covid/flu boosters last winter, and it did something horrendous to my immune system and I was ill with one virus after another. Haven't had another of either, and touch wood, not had one viral infection this winter.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 26/02/2023 16:40

Everyone the same at work children or otherwise, perhaps just the first winter where everyone has been fully mixing so a backlog of mutated germs to work through post lock downs

But the first winter was that of 2021-22

Not this one

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 26/02/2023 16:42

Mask mandates ended July 2021.

This isn't the first winter

Aishah231 · 26/02/2023 16:45

Is no one prepared to ask the unpopular but obvious question? Maybe the vaccine has something to do with it? Maybe not but surely a study into vaxxed and non vaxxed response to recent colds would be useful. Or should we just dismiss that idea without further thought.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 26/02/2023 16:47

I don't think any vaccines have been implicated in dampening immune response.

Numerous pathogens however have been

I'd be willing to consider this, if there was reliable evidence to suggest it.

From my (admittedly limited) anecdotal evidence, there doesn't appear to be much correlation.

cosmicfig · 26/02/2023 16:51

@UnmentionedElephantDildo I live in a small market town and most people were still wearing masks in shops etc last winter and at the school drop offs etc. I think that’s why I got confused.

C1239 · 26/02/2023 16:53

Im the same, it’s really getting me down. Also don’t want to plan anything socially because I think I’m bound to pick something up before and I don’t feel I’m performing great at work because I seem to be often not feeling 100%

Amrapaali · 26/02/2023 17:11

Same here. Coughing since November. Sleepless nights, sore lungs and sides because of the cough, feeling breathless. Have just been for a chest xray but am not holding out any hope that will be the answer.

Like PP mentioned I've forgotten what it feels like to be healthy and pain free with clear airways.

C1239 · 26/02/2023 17:18

How’s everyone managing to balance work and things with feeling rotten a lot of the time?!

megletthesecond · 26/02/2023 17:21

Have you got young children? Those years were utter beasts for me. I ended up having to be miserably healthy so I didn't lose my job. I stopped touching door handles years before the pandemic tbh. I've been fine this winter, but I'm jabbed to the eyeballs, healthy and have teens. I still wear a mask in busy places just in case.
If you don't get one then get a flu shot next autumn. Take your vits and get out every time the sun is out for a walk too.

Willowtre1 · 26/02/2023 17:28

I'm sorry so many people are struggling, but it makes me feel less worried myself about my situation. Very similar, bad Covid experience and two awful viruses this winter, just coming out of the second and don't feel right still. So I'm clearly not alone.

What I don't get is the advice to be super careful about crowds/indoors etc, wouldn't that just keep you vulnerable for longer, as we need to mix to up our immunity again??

Newusernameaug · 26/02/2023 17:38

I agree that there needs to be some genuine studies (not corrupt pharma ones) into the face ya of the Vaccine and peoples immune systems. Doctors are saying it should be halted due to cardio issues too.

I think it's probably an individual case thing, but if you haven't recovered from being ill it's probably for the best to take extra care of yourself until you have.

My friends with young kids seem to be under constant cough and cold bombardment the past couple of years. So far I'm not seeing any bulletproof immune systems emerging, but maybe it needs more time lol

Fannieannie63 · 26/02/2023 17:48

I’ve had so many nasty colds and flu since last October but put it down to minding my grandson who has started nursery. He also mixes with cousins who are always poorly, being taken into to hospital etc. To be honest it’s all but wiped me out as it was the same last year as well, always catching viruses from him. I don’t know what the answer is but I wish all these nasty colds, flu and viruses would do one.

Nicetoseeyou1980 · 26/02/2023 17:54

Me to, have had multiple colds, sore throat and high temps every time.
Currently have a chest infection which yep started with really high temp so now on antibiotics.
Been over a week and still feel crap with a bunch of mouth ulcers to add to the misery.

If you're still unwell, you should (ideally) stay home and away from other people as much as possible to give your immune system a chance to recover and to minimise the spread of infection - but most of us can't do that for obvious reasons.

If people mix indoors in poorly ventilated rooms with lots of other people who are poorly or still recovering, it's no wonder they get sick again (and again) so quickly.

Cheesuswithallama · 26/02/2023 18:02

I was ill once this winter! I feel special now.

Top tips from someone used to catch most bugs going
Probiotics either tablets or live bacteria food and variety of it (especially if you had antibiotics)
Vitamin d
Multivitamins
Short workouts
And very important - if your colleague comes to you sniffly you are allowed to tell them to leave and the more dramatic you are, the better. "You and your viral pets stay well away" seems to work

Pretty good (I'd thought) - I even had a hot shower after the third bug hit DD on Weds evening last week. Washed my hands so much they were all chapped and dry. But. She was sick all over me twice that eve while I was holding her and trying to comfort her while DH sorted her bedding out and ran everything through the washing machine. So probably got infected then. :( Next time it'll be DH doing the holding and me doing the washing - it's his turn!!

Bless you, sounds horrid . Get a good probiotic for you all and hope you are all feeling much better soon 💕

This isn't the first winter

Last winter it still wasn't completely back to normal in terms of sentiment, lots of people were still wearing masks, some were avoiding public places - yes mandatory mask wearing had ended but parts of the population were still taking extra care which appears to returned to normal this time around
