You should work more hours if you can't afford food. And eat turnips.

I can't believe this is happening. This is so outrageous, I wonder how come people are not on the streets.

Well she has a point about seasonal food.

We (or most of us) don't do British grown seasonal food enough.
Most of us could produce our own cut and come again lettuce leaves on a windowsill, and if you have anywhere outside for a hanging basket then cherry tomatoes do well in most of the country for the summer.
I note recently that all our local allotment sites have vacancies again (no vacancies during lockdown) so there's opportunities to grow your own.
Most supermarkets you could be selective and only buying British local - I too fancy leek, potato, swede, turnip stew!

There are 2 issues here

  1. Nasty old bat pontificating from her clearly well stocked larder
  2. Food has been too cheap for too long and considering half the public are obese, is it any bad thing we may have to look again at our eating habits or cutting back on luxuries?

A lot of jobs have literally no option to work more hours? And a second job would mean evenings and weekends gone.

I think it should be a pre-requisit that these thick as shit idiots have to work in a career for 10+ years in the shittiest customer service jobs before they even get to look at government roles. Same with Royals.

Must admit I agree with this we never had tomatoes sale stuff in winter in was summer food.

Tomatoes/Cucumbers etc have been grown in heated UK Greenhouses for decades for out of season eating.

The growers burnt oil, then after the oil hikes in the 70s, it was wood, then wood chippings into the 80s and early 90s, it just become uneconomical to build better more modern 'houses, the few that carried on are now finding it impossible to keep going, as the Govt wont help with energy costs.

My mum used to make tomato soups and sauces with the blemished ones - Yummy!

There are at least 4 derelict green houses within a mile of me, which provided some local kids w/e jobs when i was at school too.
