Recently i noticed some teens with their hands down their Nike Joggers. While i was out.

Then i noticed this on a post on her about the Macdonalds troubles. Nike get up, hand down joggers,

So what does it mean, why have these teenagers got their hand down their joggers? Intrigued in a way.

Habit.

JingleC · 24/02/2023 15:20

I used to work in police custody and prisons. The custody tracksuits didn't have pockets so all the lads stood like that. I always assumed it spread into the community from there as it looks 'hard'. And it's so grim!

cassiatwenty · 24/02/2023 15:27

@GneissGuysFinishLast I appreciate a teacher's POV on this as some of us are theorizing, teachers are out there on enemy lines. Seen the best and worst of it.

I find the vernacular fascinating, and I wouldn't love to learn more.

Oh dear, thank heavens that stationary is preserved 😋

cassiatwenty · 24/02/2023 15:29

If anyone is out there on the streets and knows what the word on the street is

I'd love to know what the Macdonald's Troubles are. Is it a code? A cult? Gang sign? Lingo? Is it some form of hazing and initiation? 🧢👟👖👕👓

I'm intrigued to know what the Macdonalds troubles are?

The thread on AIBU about Mcdonalds and anti social behaviour and having to close sometimes due to trouble.

It's posturing, i think. Sort of a "Look at me, I'm big man" kinda thing.

cassiatwenty · 24/02/2023 15:46

Many thanks @dottypotter, if you learn more, do let me know as I find these kinds of topics fantastic.

Especially the lingo like

I'm going to let you all in on a secret here. There is something deeply comfortable and comforting about cupping your nuts. We do it in private all the time. If male children have their hands in their pockets, there's a good chance they've got a hand round their bollocks.

Luckily most of us are taught not to do in in public by the age of 5, but it seems to be the case that if you're a bit of a rebel, then you don't care whether anyone sees you do it in public. Especially in joggers, because they offer very little support.

What I don't get is why now some women do it too. Anne-Marie is a good example. She has no nuts, so why the cupping?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 24/02/2023 15:53

We had a missive from the Principal to tell male sport science lecturing staff that they needed to stop doing this. Especially when talking to female staff and students, even more so when actually lecturing.

Many of them had absolutely no idea that hands down the front of their trousers was their default position. Or that anyone would find it odd.

Then students started posting short clips of them 'assuming the position'. Most of them were genuinely shocked at how it looked from the outside!

Absolutely no self awareness whatsoever.

DrManhattan · 24/02/2023 15:57

Imitating prisoners.

O so this is not some sort of urban myth

Lush life takes a little time

They are literally, trying to look hard. As in, hard-on.

Similar to guys who walk with their legs akimbo so we know how huge their balls are. (an affliction common in Glasgow).

Doingmybest12 · 24/02/2023 16:14

I guess there are 2 things going on. Men who do this at home in a comforting way absent mindedly while watching TV, still horrible in my opinion if in company . Then the teen image thing of all walking around with hands down trousers ,doubley horrible, and I think intimidating whether they intend that or not. Interesting re custody suits and no pockets. Wonder if it does originate there. I don't remember this when I was young. I think they aren't reassuring themselves re their genitals but drawing attention for woman to be aware of.

Doingmybest12 · 24/02/2023 16:16

Also men who slouch , sitting so genitals are thrust upwards. It is territory marking.

ThePoshUns · 24/02/2023 16:18

Easy access?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 24/02/2023 16:21

We always knew it as pocket snooker. What’s even worse is teenage girls are starting to do the same - so I just assume that they all must have crabs or thrush.
Neither group seem to be aware of doing it and act surprised when you tell them to stop playing and go wash their hands. (We deal with food and drink within work)

Equality

Eatyourfoodtina · 24/02/2023 16:28

Itchy balls deffo
Reassuring themselves of their gender also

LadyRoughDiamond · 24/02/2023 16:42

I’ve always assumed it started as a way of mimicking people with/insinuating that you have a concealed weapon (no pun intended). Like they could pull a gun or knife out at any moment?

TurtleTriplets · 24/02/2023 16:45

Checking everything is still attached.

Who hasn't heard a mum telling a young boy to leave it alone or it will fall off, those kind of comments in early childhood clearly create a long lasting insecurity and deep fear amongst teens.

I feel I shouldn't but I just laughed again. So sorry. That kind of approach seems a bit scary.

What sort of territory do they inhabit?

Fairislefandango · 24/02/2023 16:55

Grim. But only slightly more annoying than saying 'joggies' or 'swimmies'.

OneTC · 24/02/2023 16:55

The purest of trackies don't have external pockets and sometimes have little pockets sewn inside.
