Okay, I've just remembered that there were a couple of near misses with boats when the CS was on the island. Joey was nearly flung overboard once (a missed opportunity for EBD to get rid of her IMO) and there were probably others.

Yes, the doctors that always happen to be stood there when a pupil is fished out of a lake (and always go on to marry one of the teachers...)

Imagine the fuss now if a child was allowed to be taken back to a random man's house and plied with drugs "well he said he was a doctor!"

(In fairness,.my grandfather was a doctor in a village and when we were little patients would randomly show up at the house*, so I guess a doctor's house was viewed rather differently back then

*I now sometimes wonder if he encouraged us to come round in the hope our wild and feral shrieks would deter his patients. Or possibly he encouraged his patients to come round so he could get a break from us

The doctors were probably hanging around for the chance to be heroic in front of their favourite teacher.

Given the frequency of accidents, it was probably their best chat up strategy.

Unless the teachers were deliberately co-ordinating accidents in order to bag a doctor.
