Basically these items were suggested on a thread about keeping warm, and rather derail that thread, how good are these items vs the cold weather ?

Delightful. But not hardwearing. My toes went through my cashmere socks v quickly.

Whataretheodds · 21/02/2023 22:54

Merino is excellent

Hawkins003 · 21/02/2023 22:55

Much appreciated

I wear cashmere socks in bed and they work really well.

Dixiechickonhols · 21/02/2023 22:56

Love my cashmere turtle doves hand warmers.
I had some cashmere socks but my heels quickly wore through the heel of the sick.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 21/02/2023 22:57

Lovely to wear, but the socks shrink when washed unless you are very careful, and even then….
cashmere lining on leather gloves lasts forever and is very effective.

Badbudgeter · 21/02/2023 22:58

It is very warming. I was out in a freezing wind but the bits of me covered by cashmere were toasty. I found a lovely vintage cashmere jumper in a charity shop. I’ve worn it nearly every day this winter. Turtle doves wrist warmers are good too.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 21/02/2023 23:04

Turtle dove wrist warmers are the best, primarily because you can still do a lot of things when wearing them, and they aren't bulky.

I cannot speak to cashmere socks - I got given a pair as a lovely gift and immediately shrunk them in the wash. I recommend Ugg boots (or Celtic connection) for indoor wear, but they aren't cheap. Mind you, if you strictly only wear them inside they do last for ages so cost per wear is nothing.

TomatoSandwiches · 21/02/2023 23:08

Cashmere bed socks should literally only be worn in bed, otherwise they will wear through, usually at the heel.
They do keep feet very warm though and so so soft.

I have a few pairs of turtle doves, nothing wrong with them but prefer my Bora fingerless wrist warmers, one for outside and one for inside, keeps the chill at bay.

Barbour welly socks are great also and much less fragile than the cashmere socks.

I've had similar with some thermal socks that wore thin, on the heel.

I was given a John Lewis cashmere scarf as a gift. It is machine washable and is still like new despite being washed several times worn all winter for a good few years now. It is so warm, can't recommend it enough - one of my favourite things!

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 21/02/2023 23:19

Our boiler broke when the temp was below freezing and cashmere gloves were an absolute godsend. I wouldn't sleep in them as after a while I get too hot. I've not tried socks, I find a combo of thick tights and socks works (and if needed I can add hiking socks). I don't like the house too warm as the air dries out, so keeping cosy and heating down isn't new for us.

EllieM27 · 22/02/2023 00:15

Cashmere has become my favorite thing since moving to the Northeast US where they have what I like to call Serious Winter. I’ve amassed a collection of it and live in it all winter long; can’t recommend it enough. Leather gloves lined with cashmere are amazing. I like cashmere socks too but they aren’t quite as warm as those ones that you can get from New Zealand that have possum fur in them. Those things are amazing!

Now is the time to be snatching up cashmere jumpers and such too, since we’re going into spring. Cashmere has become so popular and there are lots of great options now and various different price points.

I found similar with gloves, went through the tips easily. Lovely and warm though.

Not keen on my turtle dove wrist warmers at all. I bought a set, based on recommendations from here, and I also bought sets for my mum and my best friend - both of whom love cashmere far more than me. I find mine too long so they dont sit well under coat sleeves and bunch up with cardigans/jumpers. I havent ever dared ask my mum/bf what they thought as I have never seen either wearing them at all. Shame - love the concept.

GoBackToTheLibraryWhereYouBelong · 22/02/2023 00:52

Hats, scarves, gloves, jumpers, lovely. Wear these all the time.

Socks also lovely, but as mentioned, they do go into holes if you so much as look at them funny 😁 you're actually not meant to walk around in them, which sounds ridiculously precious, but they are good bed socks, or to keep by the sofa for watching TV. After ruining a couple of pairs I swore never to buy more, but I gave in.

OutofEverything · 22/02/2023 00:58

Not at all practical for socks.

CherryMaple · 22/02/2023 05:50

I wear Turtle Doves ankle warmers all day every day in the autumn/winter - even under long work trousers. Really effective in keeping my feet warm.

Also love my Turtle Doves wrist warmers. My arms are really long, and they basically extend my sleeves. Always wear them out of the house in autumn/winter, and will also wear them indoors if I’m feeling chilly. Always wear them driving, because my hands are always cold on the steering wheel for some reason.

FatSealSmugSoup · 22/02/2023 06:20

I wear lots of cashmere clothing and merino tights/socks - for bed these are truly magnificent - my feet actually get HOT!

www.pairs-scotland.com/products/lambswool-bed-sock

Real sheepskin boots/slippers shouldn’t be worn with socks because you don’t get the benefit of the wool - so around the house I just wear celtic sheepskin slippers.

You can wash all of the above in a normal wool cycle.

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/02/2023 06:58

Cashmere is very warm, it is also very soft soft so it is nicer against skin than pure wool.

For socks cashmere mix is better. I have some M&S socks that are wool, cotton and cashmere mix, it makes them harder wearing but still very warm.

Nothingbuttheglory · 22/02/2023 06:59

My cashmere bed socks are the reason I learned to darn. They are lovely though.

yodayoga1 · 22/02/2023 08:52

I have Dents leather gloves with cashmere lining. Expensive but L asted years and the warmest I've ever had.

wonkylegs · 22/02/2023 09:10

Cashmere turtle dove wrist warmers are ace,
I wear cashmere lined leather gloves when out - good balance between dexterity and warmth
Alpaca socks are fantastic and balance warmth and durability although you do need to wash by hand (or in wool wash in machine) but they don't need washing every wear.
I think alpaca and cashmere are supposed to be equal in terms of durability but the supply chains for alpaca are more controlled than cashmere so are more likely to be guaranteed higher quality whereas cashmere market has been a bit tainted by cheaper imports from China. It might be a load of rubbish but I've had good experiences with alpaca socks.
