of course it ok theyre tinned

AreBearsCatholic · 20/02/2023 19:58

I would eat both

NuffSaidSam · 20/02/2023 19:59

They're both fine.

Chemenger · 20/02/2023 19:59

Just eat them, I wouldn’t think twice.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 20/02/2023 19:59

Both ok

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 20/02/2023 19:59

Tinned stuff is fine way past its date. I wouldn't hesitate

Applesandcarrots · 20/02/2023 20:00

Tins are immortal.
As long as it's not damaged

NuffSaidSam · 20/02/2023 20:00

Best before just mean they're 'best' before that date, they're still edible afterwards.

HaroldsCougar · 20/02/2023 20:00

Of course - it's "best by"

(not "use by")

Dacadactyl · 20/02/2023 20:01

Yes you can eat both of them, no issues at all.

I'd happily eat them 10 years "out of date" so long as the tins weren't bashed or damaged.

AdaColeman · 20/02/2023 20:02

They will both be fine to use. Tinned foods have long shelf lives.

AlisonDonut · 20/02/2023 20:03

I.made quince jam in 2012.

I made so much I'm still using it.

It will be fine, that's the point of canning in the first place.

MrsJBaptiste · 20/02/2023 20:03

Of course they'll be fine!

I ate some tinned prunes yesterday which were 3 years out of date. Considering they have years on them when you buy them, I must have stuck them in the cupboard before the Millennium!

KindlyKanga · 20/02/2023 20:04

Beans fine.

Chickpeas no - they can make you very ill

Crumpetdisappointment · 20/02/2023 20:04

the chick peas tin was slightly dented

OP posts:
Applesandcarrots · 20/02/2023 20:05

Slightly dented would be fine in my books proper bashed so it's danaged and may be rusty is a no

Crumpetdisappointment · 20/02/2023 20:06

great
thanks
i was all for chucking them out

Applesandcarrots · 20/02/2023 20:06

I am always in two minds about threads like these.
On one hand, people knwoing what best before means helps with food waste.
On the other, there will be more competition in looting during apocalypse....

Crumpetdisappointment · 20/02/2023 20:07

very fair point @Applesandcarrots

OP posts:
KindlyKanga · 20/02/2023 20:07

Seriously don't risk the chickpeas

Crumpetdisappointment · 20/02/2023 20:07

@KindlyKanga
are you thinking of kidney beans?

@KindlyKanga
are you thinking of kidney beans?

Nope. Chickpeas.

KindlyKanga · 20/02/2023 20:10

KindlyKanga · 20/02/2023 20:10

Nope. Chickpeas.

Kidney beans are dangerous too

Runningonempty01 · 20/02/2023 20:11

Why would a tin of chick peas or kidney beans be risky. Tinned food is cooked and sterile, I bet it would be safe 10 years out of date.

WarmSausageTea · 20/02/2023 20:12

If the tins aren’t blown or rusty, they’ll be fine. And delicious.
