To ask FT home workers what their workplace provides

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 15/02/2023 12:31

Starting a new WFH FT job next week. I’m being sent a laptop. But should they also be providing a desk and chair as well? I’m having to buy one myself. I’m pretty sure I’ll also be expected to use my personal phone rather than be given a work phone.

I have screens, keyboard/mouse, laptop, mobile, headset for teams calls, docking station

everything I provide

Mushroo · 15/02/2023 12:35

They gave me a laptop, mouse, keyboard, screen.

I already had a desk and chair, I’m not 100% sure what the policy would be if I needed them.

MaverickGooseGoose · 15/02/2023 12:35

We were provided with a screen and £200 in lockdown towards deck / chair. New starts don't get that now they have to provide their own or they can go into the office

Ceryneianhind · 15/02/2023 12:36

btw - you can get desks on freecycle, facebook marketplace, all very cheap or free

MaverickGooseGoose · 15/02/2023 12:36

And don't use your personal phones that's ridiculous. If you need a phone they should provide it.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 15/02/2023 12:36

Not a desk and chair (although we moved to WFH during lockdown and some of us brought decent spare chairs home from the office). I have a footstool, mobile, laptop, laptop riser, second screen (although that may have been an old one of ours!), keyboard, mouse.

I specifically wanted a work phone but some use their own phone.

I have a dodgy back so have invested in a comfy chair but I thought for a desk freecycle is the perfect place! I just didn’t know if I should be getting one from them or not

Screen, laptop, headset , mouse & keyboard.

ChildcareIsBroken · 15/02/2023 12:39

I have laptop, cables, keyboard, mouse, second screen, third screen.
Using my own phone for apps needed for work.
Work doesn't provide a desk or a chair, I don't think that's standard.

Iheartmysmart · 15/02/2023 12:39

I got a laptop and that was it. Apparently I should also have had a monitor, keyboard, docking station, mouse and mat. And a welcome pack with notebooks, pens, laptop bag, mug etc! Pretty rubbish company and I’m looking for a new job.

Mintsgreen · 15/02/2023 12:40

Laptop and a phone. I wouldn’t want a desk and chair from work; they’d be fugly!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 15/02/2023 12:40

No, you are choosing to apply for and accept a WFH role, it's up to you to make sure you have the space, environment and mindset to be able to work from home.

Work provide the device to access their systems and any peripherals you need like monitor, keyboard to use that device.

drpet49 · 15/02/2023 12:40

Provide a desk and chair? Not standard at all

iCouldSleepForAYear · 15/02/2023 12:41

Laptop with charger, extra monitor, and I was also offered a mouse, keyboard and headset, but I'd already bought myself these things and preferred to keep using my own.

I was not offered a desk chair. May have been back when the office was empty from Covid, but by the time I joined, people were slowly returning to the office a few days a week and the company needed the chairs back.

MuthaHubbard · 15/02/2023 12:42

Monitor, laptop, headset (for Skype/teams calls), mouse, keyboard and desk riser. Also got a couple of notepads and pens. No phone as use Skype but if a business need, I'd be given a works mobile.
70 quid towards a chair if I needed it but desk not provided - which I think is pretty much the norm

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 15/02/2023 12:43

Laptop, mouse, keyboard, riser, mobile, could have a headset if I wanted one - I'm happier with the headphones that came with the mobile.

During covid people took chairs from the office, but now we can go in if we want to they've had to be returned.

I had to do a display screen equipment assessment / questionairre thing that flagged anything I needed to make the set up correct.

If you need a mobile they should be providing it.

Tink1990 · 15/02/2023 12:44

Laptop and work phone. My manager at the time I started did say to let them know if there was anything else I needed and they would most likely provide. I didn't feel I needed anything else so never asked.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 15/02/2023 12:45

Thanks all, pleased to see its all normal and standard! Bar the mobile but I might just get a second line so I know when something is a work call and when it isn’t

Desk, chair, 2 screens and clamp to have them attached to desk, laptop, headset, all of the relevant ports / connecty bits/leads, work mobile which came with screen protector and case. Nice quality laptop rucksack for occasional visits to office.

I work for a charity and have been set up better than some friends with more 'high powered' jobs. DH is quite senior and bought his own desk/chair / widescreen monitors as he wanted a better spec. than his company provided

HereComeTheICKS · 15/02/2023 12:51

Laptop, screen, mouse, keyboard and headset. We use Skype/teams for all calls so I’ve never had to use my personal phone.

i provided the desk. In lockdown they “loaned” the chairs to those that needed one and we moved office so not all of them were needed back. They never really kept track of who had one and just sent out generic emails asking for them.

those that had specialist chairs were allowed to take them home if they have stayed home. The majority of people have.

I believe if we needed some kind of specialist chair we can apply for that to be sent to where we would use it the most so home or office.

I got lucky and have a £800 desk chair from Facebook marketplace for £50 so do keep a lookout

HurdyGurdy19 · 15/02/2023 13:15

I use the laptop, mobile phone and headset that were provided for office working. When the pandemic hit, and we were all told to WFH, I snuck my office chair out as well, and use that at home. We were given a one-off £250 payment towards purchases of other equipment we needed for home working, and I have used that, plus some of my own money towards dual monitors and stand, a desk, and a wireless keyboard and mouse

Rebellious23 · 15/02/2023 13:17

I was meant to be temporarily WFH.. 3 years later
I was given a headset, laptop, mouse and work chair. Bought my own desk

theemmadilemma · 15/02/2023 13:17

Laptop/docking station and headset.

Everything else I was expected to provide myself when I took the opportunity to to full time remote work. It's a perk, and the idea is that if you accept a full time remote position that you have a suitable working space.

theemmadilemma · 15/02/2023 13:18

Oh yes, mobile, we use our own devices.

Most companies have gone that way for the larger majority of users, bar very senior.

River82 · 15/02/2023 13:23

Nothing. I use my own laptop, own phone, own desk and own chair.
