To ask FT home workers what their workplace provides

Starting a new WFH FT job next week. I’m being sent a laptop. But should they also be providing a desk and chair as well? I’m having to buy one myself. I’m pretty sure I’ll also be expected to use my personal phone rather than be given a work phone.

Work will provide a laptop with maybe a headset, mouse and keyboard. Any additional extras you will probably have to buy yourself as they aren't essential to perform a role :)

Laptop up front. Once you start you can order IT kit. Company will provide phone, desk and chair if needed but we mostly use a soft-phone and most of my new starters have a desk already.

DSE is there for a reason. Working full time on the sofa hunched over a laptop won't do your neck or shoulders much good over the lomg term.

Agree about DSE. At the beginning of covid, I worked for a couple of weeks on my laptop sitting at the kitchen island and I felt comfortable. However after that time I couldn't stand up straight or walk so then I went and got my big screen and proper chair, separate keyboard, mouse etc from the office and set myself up at an old table we had.

Now we're hybrid working, we're expected to have and are provided with a full set up at home and in the office and need to do an online DSE assessment of the home set up every three years or any time that something changes.

But you might not need a phone or line because all your phone calls might go via the laptop in Teams, Skype or similar.
