I’m not moving off the sofa for 6 hours

Rainisinmydna · 15/02/2023 09:41

It’s pouring down with rain, I’ve lit candles, in my pjs on the sofa under the duvet, cup of coffee, buttery toast, dog cuddled up to me and tv all day…it’s heaven.
I *Never ever do this. I worked full time all my life, had my Dd later, due to infertility, was a sahm, glad I did it, but found the lack of time alone v difficult.
Dd started pre school and I drop her and head to work, finish work and pick her up.
Last night I barely slept, haven’t felt 100% recently, so I’m taking a mental health day/skiving, whatever you want to call it.
The school run was easier as I literally brushed my teeth, trainers on, no showers and make up for work, came back, back into pjs and I’m just here wishing I could do this every day 🙈😅
Does anyone do this on a regular basis? If so, you are lucky!
I’m just going to enjoy not having to speak for six hours or listen to anyone else, to only get food and drinks for myself..it’s the small things 🤣

I changed my job from 2 8 hour days to 1.5 hours a day and send my daughter who’s 14 months to a childminder for two days a week. Her dad works full time so I’m loving my life those two days and the days where I can spend the day with my daughter but still have to go to work for that short time. It all helps my mental health! So you go for it and enjoy your day

Pirateships · 15/02/2023 09:45

Ahhh enjoy! They are the best (i used to still send DS to childcare when I was on annual leave unless of course we had something planned as a family) and I didn't feel one iota of guilt or whatever. Bloody loved it. Sometimes me and DH would have time off together which was nice, but time off just me, my blanket, the TV and snacks was unmatched. I was signed off with a medical issue for a while and to be honest I was climbing up the walls and would have done anything to get out the house; but when the balance is right they are the best days ever.

slamfightbrightlight · 15/02/2023 09:47

I always keep my flexi time in credit so I have the option of doing this while the kids are at school (when I don’t need to use the days for childcare). It’s rare but it’s lovely! Enjoy it OP!

YANBU - impressed by your bladder too

Rainisinmydna · 15/02/2023 09:52

@neverknowinglyunreasonable 🤣

Enjoy! Every time I book a day off to spend it doing absolutely zero, someone in the house gets ill so I don't get to enjoy it - even if I don't mention it to anyone. It's a curse.

I hope you have the best day Brew

Nimbostratus100 · 15/02/2023 09:55

you will get a numb bum, and I speak from experience!

PurplePositivity · 15/02/2023 09:56

YANBU

Everyone needs a duvet day once in a while. Enjoy

Igmum · 15/02/2023 09:57

Go for it. Sounds like absolute bliss Grin

EmpressOfTheSofa · 15/02/2023 09:58

I do this at least once a week. I have two days off and one is usually a weekday, I have the house to myself and no school run (older kids) so I do NOTHING. I need it; I have a physical public facing job where I have to be ‘on’ all the time and I need proper checked out downtime or I burn out.

skgnome · 15/02/2023 10:00

Sounds great! Enjoy it!
everyone deserves some relaxing me time

MonkeyMindAllOverAround · 15/02/2023 10:01

Well done. Never forget that taking these little holidays to catch up with yourself are essential for your wellbeing and that of your family. An exhausted parent is hardly ever a good parent so enjoy the company of the candles and your sofa, it is not that you deserve it, you NEED it. You are the most important person of the family because you keep the boat afloat!

If you are ok, your relationship is ok and therefore your children are happy so have a great rest! 🙂

gogohmm · 15/02/2023 10:02

@neverknowinglyunreasonable

My thoughts too, plus I'm a glutton if at home, I'm looking for snacks.

I've got the late afternoon/evening to myself today and looking forward to it

tillyoumakeit · 15/02/2023 10:03

I am jealous!! Enjoy.

bathbombaholic · 15/02/2023 10:04

Enjoy OP- sounds wonderful! And like you more than deserve it Smile

FfeminyddCymraeg · 15/02/2023 10:04

I’m currently on garden leave from my job and regularly do this. I’ll be very upset when I have to start my new role and have structure to my day. My DC are in secondary school so I don’t even have to get up to see to them 🤩

BrassicaBabe · 15/02/2023 10:05

Have a great day. Enjoy every moment without even a hint of guilt.

Rainisinmydna · 15/02/2023 10:16

Admittedly I do feel guilt over Dd, who wanted to stay at home and always says that 😬but, I just had this feeling I *Had to do this and keep telling myself it’s good for her.
My only rookie error was, I didn’t get good food/snacks in, in preparation, I could’ve stopped at the shop 🤔 j just have normal, boring food…although, there is a crappy choc chip cupcake mix in a box in the cupboard 😂
I could sit on the sofa eating cupcakes all day to really make the most of it

Sounds like bliss! Enjoy

ladymacbeth · 15/02/2023 10:25

I also do this one day a week! Work mad hours during the week in a job I love, then weekend is one day for friends/errands and one day for sloth!

Buenosfairies211 · 15/02/2023 10:30

Enjoy it op and seriously, try not to feel guilt over your dd. She will benefit by having a rested mother. Honestly, I always thought all the rhetoric about self care was overblown but I got caught short when the dc were teens and my mh bombed. Best to make the most of every opportunity you can to take a bit of time for yourself. Parenthood is a marathon not a sprint.

harrassedmumto3 · 15/02/2023 10:31

Blissful - enjoy!

FrenchandSaunders · 15/02/2023 10:40

Sounds fabulous, enjoy your day.

I said similar to a friend yesterday. I'm a late starter to Happy Valley and I'm on series 1, episode 4. Loving it! I told her my ideal weekend would be to get loads of cheese/crackers and red wine, then spend the entire weekend binging Happy Valley, with nobody to bother me. I'm determined to make this dream come true in the next few weeks.

Boysnme · 15/02/2023 10:43

I am heading towards a similar day OP. On leave for half term and teen kids will likely only come out of their rooms to raid the snack drawer.

My question to you - what are you watching on TV? Needing some recommendations!

DaisyDays123 · 15/02/2023 10:44

If you’ve enjoyed wasting time, then it is not wasted!! Go for it, everyone deserves a break! Your life is yours to chose what you do with it. Society has such influence on us, sometimes negative. There is nothing wrong with resting.
